Sequoyah National Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sequoyah National Golf Club is surrounded by mature oak and fir trees. Owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee, the course is routed through flowered valleys that provide a colorful complement to the surrounding mountain views. It feels peacefully secluded but it is conveniently located less than an hour from Asheville. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the layout. The rolling terrain guarantees a range of different elevation changes but there are also some flat holes. The golf course is a tough test, offering several forced carries over water and severe dogleg fairways. The sloped greens are no easy feat either. Proper club selection and accurate approach shots will be generously rewarded. Sequoyah National also offers an expansive practice area with a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

True Gem
I loved this course. Even though the conditions aren't ideal, the greens were in excellent shape and the fairways were more than acceptable. I will definitely return at a different time of the year to enjoy.
Gorgeous Views & Great Staff
My husband and I went to Cherokee for a fun night at the casino and decided to play a round of golf the next day. This course is fabulous and the views are breathtaking. Greens were rolling smooth and fast and the staff members were extremely friendly. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Fantastic Views
Sequoyah Nat'l has a fantastic layout, that has no doubt, the best views of the Smoky Mtns from any course in Western NC. All the traps have consistant, white sand, but the fairways are very generous. This is a tough course because of all the elevation changes, and you rarely have a flat stance; but it is a great value, with hole after hole that are so beautiful. I can't wait to play it when its all greened up....wow, what a course! Go to the course website-they have a good "fly over" feature, plus the GPS in the cart is pretty helpful.
Tricky fairways with many slopes, undulating greens.
The course was in great condition considering recent weather in the area. The fairways have few level playing areas, but are fair. The greens are approachable but have several undulating rolls. Many, many sand traps with great white sand and perfectly maintained. Overall course was very clean for late November play!
Good layout, even better views
I'm a Turf & Golf Course Management student at North Georgia Technical College so I obviously paid extra attention to the course conditions as well as the layout. The course was extremely challenging yet fair and fun. As far as the conditions of the course I'd give it a 6 out of 10. Only reason I say that is the fescue rough needed to be reseeded. The tee boxes were great. The bentgrass greens were scraggly but rolled true. A couple of dead spots on the greens were they may have lost grass due to diseases or lack of irrigation on dried out, windy days. I believe the fairways were bluegrass and overall were pretty good but they were about an inch high and haven't been cut in a few days. I really enjoyed the course and I can certainly side with the superintendent. I imagine the superintendent is just a good budget away from having this course be one of the best in the western North Carolina region. I will definitely play this course again when I bring my father.
Fun mountain course
This is a fun and challenging mountain course. There are a lot of elevation changes that make club choice crucial. It's in good condition.
Nice Views
Tee boxes in bad shape, some greens needed work, parts of fairways needed some work...hole #2 was completely closed...great views though....worth $35 but i wouldn't pay more until they fixed up the tee boxes and greens. need to play target golf...hit it straight and you'll be fine :)
Excellent course with great views from all holes
I really enjoy playing at Sequoyah National - it is challenging and every hole has wonderful views of the Smokies
course was fun
10, 11 ,12 very difficult- not really fair for average golfer
course is way too hard for a 9 handicapper. Not real long but extremely hilly and hard. Had way too many holes other than the par 3s that we cart p
Course way too difficult. Beautiful day and the course was dry yet we had not only the par 3s that we expected to be cart path only but also 6-8 other holes that were cart path only due to the course being so hilly and steep terrain. The number 2 hole, a par 3, was closed due to the poor green...which was a shame as it is a beautiful hole.
Pretty course but just to much cart path only...not a fun course to play. Being a challenge is okay, but need some fun with it. Oh yes, would be nice to have more than one bathroom on the course.
Will neve olay again....sorry, but have to tell the truth.
Very challenging mountain course in great shape. Very enjoyable
Very challenging mountain course in great shape. Very enjoyable to play. Had a great time.
Course has a great view.
Greens were sanded over and some had been raked but they did not take out the pins when raking and left large amount of sand around the holes. Could not take the cart on most fairways therefor making the cart GPS not useable. We were behind a foursome with no regard for anyone else on the course and more interested in the drink cart than playing golf. No course marshall. We joined up with a twosome behind us and still had to wait on every hole. Finally played aound them missing a hole so we only played 17 holes.
Thank you for your review. We apologize you ran in to some issues with our top dressing of the greens on Monday. Our practices are only in the best interest of the golf course and it's playability.
We do have four holes that are always cart path only (3,4,5 & 15) due to the severe slopes. Golf cars can roll very easily on these holes and we keep the carts off of them for the safety of our guests.
We strive to make improvements and a better experience for our guests so thank you again for your feedback.
Bring Your "A" Game
Sequoyah is a relatively new course carved out of the mountains in Cherokee, NC. There are many scenic holes, with great views of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. But don't get distracted by the scenery, because to score well you must hit your ball in the right place. There is lots of trouble waiting for you if you get to far to one side of the fairway or the other. The day we played they had a temporary hole for the par 3 second hole, that was going through re-construction. Unfortunately, this is the second time I've played here and had to use this temporary hole. The GSP in the cart is great, and even gives you a fly-over description of each hole. They also provide free range balls, however you have to hit off a mat.
Sequoyah will be a great course someday, but it needs a few more years to mature.
Thank you for your review. We have completed the re-construction of Hole #2 and are very excited about how it came out. We plan on re-opening the hole in the Spring of 2014. Due to the unfortunate incident, we've had to stay on the mats for the driving range this season so that the grass area could be utilized as a temporary Hole #2 in order to provide an 18 hole round for our guests. Thanks again and please come back to play our new hole next Spring!
More scenery then you can stand! Mountains Galore. Enjoy
Very Challenging, Awesome Views. I can't think of a better course.
Course had unbelievable mountain views.
The course was nice and the views were unbelievable. The staff, especially the cart valet, was excellent.
Beautiful Location
The course is very picturesque, it only commands the premium fee due to its location. The greens and fairways left alot to be desired as there were many dead spots. The staff was friendly and the GPS on the carts were nice.
Thank you for your feedback. We continue to recover from a difficult summer of weather with 40" of rain over average but feel as though the course improving. Please come visit us again in the Spring. I think you'll see a different golf course.
Billy goat course
My idea of golf is a relatively level playing field. This is a severely sloped course, seldom find a flat lie in which to hit the ball. My handicap is high teens and unless you are a very good player you will be frustrated when you miss by a few feet and cannot find your ball because it rolls over the hill into the brush. I only got 1 birdie and couple pars. Several of the holes you are required to stay on the cart path--I did not see the reason this was the requirement. So be prepared to do a lot of walking up hill. One hole is under repair and is not is use. Very long course. Weather was perfect. I would not recommend.
Thank you for your feedback. Sequoyah can have some bite to it even for the low handicaper if you don't have control of your golf ball that day. Our suggestion is to play this golf course conservatively. If you club down and keep the ball in play, you'll find a much more playable golf course.
Our cart path only holes (4 in total) are due to severe slopes entering and exiting the fairways. Unfortunately we have seen several golf carts roll over and staying on the cart path is the only way to guarantee the guests safety which is more important to us.
Exciting mountain course with lots of elevation changes
The only problems we encountered were due to excessive rain on course. The greens were spotty and uneven in cut. We have played here before when that was not the case, ie, they were smooth and true.
Two of the holes are exceedingly long given the difficulty of the course, 7 and 10. For the less than average golfer, 10 is easily a par 5.
Course conditions are pristine for a mountain course where roughs and fairways are often more difficult to maintain than a flatland course.
great course needs help
we had a 942 tee time through Golf Now. Got there early and they let us out early as they had a very busy outing later on.
The course is very hilly and the carts do a good job.
The wet weather has hurt this course and it had been aerated 2 weeks ago and had not healed..The fairways had lots of dead areas and the greens and tee boxes needed help. The conditions were a disappointment.
The course itself is very beautiful and challenging and we will go back and play it once conditions have improved.
Bad Experience
This course has been poorly maintained for a long period of time. We expected the greens to be slow due to aerification, but the fairways were in terrible shape and the tee boxes as well. Lots of crab grass invading the course and tee boxes. Bare areas on the fairways.

Hilton Vacation Club Bent Creek Golf Village Gatlinburg Stay & Play Package
Thank you for your review. There are 4 holes (Par 4's & 5's) that are cart path only due to sloping getting on and off the cart path. We understand this can viewed as an inconvenience however the safety of our guests is what is most important. We understand it is a challenging golf course but do find that our guests find it more playable after it has been viewed once. Sequoyah is a target golf course that needs to be played conservatively for maximum scoring potential.
I just want to clarify for you that our Par 3 second hole is not closed due to a "poor" green. There was an unfortunate collapse in it's structure due to 40"+ of rain fall over average this year. The hole has been reconstructed and we plan to open it again in the Spring of 2014. Thank you
