What a Great Course and What a Great Bargain!
Wonderful golf course. Everything from the lady in the club house to the cart paths was excellent. The greens were great, only one green had a problem with blight, but the rest were outstanding. The front nine is nice and very pretty, the back nine is long and difficult. If you play the back tees this will be the longest course in Georgia. Worth the trip, even if you are coming from a distance.
Good course and best practice range I have ever seen.
Good course, club house is just basic, carts in good shape but no GPS, but I used my cell phone with the GolfNow gps and it worked great. The fairways were not in the best of shape but this area has not had rain in over three weeks...the greens were in good shape however.
Great golf cou
The course is in very good condition and the layout is excellent. One of the more challenging courses you will play. The course makes you use all the clubs in your bag.
Fun Course
Course is in great shape. Ball sits up nice in fairways. Traps are soft and fluffy. Greens are soft
and hold well while still putting true. Makes for a great round of mountain golf! Will play again many times.
Wonderful Course
This is a great links style course with beautiful mountain scenery. The use of mounds and bunkers to frame the holes and add challenge is excellent. The fairways were hard due to the dry conditions but the added length was nice as the course is very long. The greens were soft and were able to hold long approach shots. The pace of play was very fast as there were few other golfers. The staff was extremely nice.
Old Union
Old Union is nestled in a valley between mountains and hills and incorporates many lakes and marshes in its design. This course is rather long and tough, almost 7600 yards from the back tees but there are plenty more tees for every skill level. I play a lot of different courses and I would have a hard time thinking of a course that demands a better driving game than this one. The day I played, the course was is rather average shape when compared to the scenic beauty that surrounds you. The fairways weren't cut as close as I like them and there were some small fescue shoots coming up on some parts of the greens. Despite the fescue the greens were soft and still seemed to roll true.
Long but fun and worth the challenge!
Was in Brasstown Valley and they were booked all morning so I found Old Union as a course close by. The course seems newer given that it is in a new subdivision with only a handful of houses. The course is the longest in GA from the tips according to the proshop. Don't deny them given there was a 303 Par 3 on the front nine. All in all it was long, but pretty wide open for the most part. The challenge was fun and brought in clubs you probably don't ever use really. The course itself could use some more TLC given the number of weeds throughout the fairway and on the greens. If they could put some money into it, they would be able to turn that around within a few years I'm sure. That coupled with the surrounding scenery would make it a must visit course for sure.
Overall though, I enjoyed the course and challenge. Would probably hit it up again.
Will Golf there again in time
Long course, lots of sand traps but the sand is really soft.
Greens were hard and some were in bad shape. Some fairways were dried.
Beautiful Course
This is my first time playing this course. It's a beautiful course with great mountain views. The grounds were in excellent shape. The staff were very efficient and friendly. Overall great experience. I look forward to bringing some friends up to the mountains and playing golf at this course again.
Welcome to Old Union.
As part of the new management team here at Old Union Golf Course, I would like to invite you to come out and join us for a round of golf at one of North Georgia’s finest courses. The course has transitioned since an ownership change in August, 2015. We have been working very diligently to improve course conditions and player experience. Our new Superintendent and staff have put in the time to improve the condition of the course since last August. We have been hesitant to promote the course until we felt the course was ready to go. That time has now come. Below is a list of items we have concentrated on in the last 12 months:
• Condition of the greens
• Condition of the fairways
• Course playability for the average golfer
• Added a new set of tees. This shorted play for seniors, women and non-professionals. We still have back tees for golfers who want to try to tame one of the longest golf courses in Georgia.
• Upgraded equipment
• Fully stocked pro shop
• Reduced player rates and memberships
Whether you want to play 18 holes or work on your game at our range and one of North Georgia’s most expansive practice facilities, we would love to have you out at Old Union. Come and enjoy the peace of a secluded golf course. The course is nestled in a valley that is surrounded by mountains and beautiful Ivy Log Creek. Our staff is friendly and is ready to welcome you.
Course in Great Condition!
I understand that the course is under new management since last summer and you can certainly see the improvement! The greens are in excellent condition and are in the best shape in the area in my opinion. Great practice facility as well. I have played the course several times this spring and it continues to improve every time. I look forward for things to come with this great layout!
Best it has been
Been playing this course since it was opened. It has one of the best layouts in the area, and by far, the best practice facility around. The course was troubled in 2015 with poor conditions and an unfriendly staff, but the new ownership has really improved things over the last year. The greens and fairway now rival other local courses, and as a member for the last 4 years, we are tickled with all of the improvements that have been made.
Any other course but this nightmare
We played this course a couple times when it first opened and thought it was okay. Now it resembles more of a cow pasture than a golf course. It's under new management but I think that will only make matters worse. The new owner obviously does not have a clue. It's pretty bad when they have to mow the sand traps.
There are a couple other really nice golf courses in the area . Brasstown is awesome but a little pricey. In my opinion Butternut Creek is a better choice. They even have GPS on the carts. But that's my opinion. If you're new to the area trust me play anywhere else but Old nasty union.
Overall bad experience here with staff and the course.
First time here. Tried to set up tee time online but wouldn't let me. Staff said it wasn't working. When I asked about the difference in pricing I was told Web page was wrong. Paid for 2 carts given one. Called the next day to question after going over receipt and was told even if you both pay for cart you only get one. The course meandered all over the place making you wonder what flag went with your hole number. No scenery and course was very plain and in fair shape. On the plus side they give you free bottled water and restrooms are nice and clean. Going to Sapphire Valley next which is 1 hour away and with the reviews I read on here Brasstown.
Ground keeping
It had rain a bit the day before but the fairways are in need of some improvements. Has plenty of sand and water to play thru with some long par 4s and 5s. Be an awesome course with some more TLC
I do recommend this course. The review wouldn't let me change it.
