About
The three different nines at Carolina National Golf Club are named after the birds that inhabit the acres of beautiful low country that the course sits on. Fred Coupes designed the 27-hole layout, taking care to preserve the beautiful natural landscape and wildlife provided by its location on the shores of the Lockwood Folly River. His work earned the golf course designation as an Audubon Sanctuary. The nines: Ibis, Egret, and Heron; all have different challenges. However, they all have challenging greens that boast some of the best conditions in the area. The Ibis is the most player-friendly of the nines. Carolina National Golf Club's 27-hole layout is played as three different 18-hole combinations. The Ibis offers some opportunities to recover your score since it is not quite as long as either the Egret or Heron.

sanded greens were hugely inconsistent
love this venue, great layout - but Heron greens today were rather disappointing...I fully understand sanding after aeration, but expect some brushing, & consistency. Too many greens were oversanded and rather silly to putt on,
Cart paths in bad shape. Greens and fairways good. Tees need work.

Could have gotten all fives
Ibis greens recently sanded made for a long day of really slow putting. Should have brought my Rosa for front nine and soft face for back nine. Greens in Heron were in better shape.
Course in great shape considering all the afternoon rain for past two weeks.
Will try to play again from the gold or tips as some holes are totally different experiences.
This is a target corse in my opinion. Only launched the driver a handful of times.
Over priced for under-irrigated course conditions.....
Would have given it 5 stars, but the price was too expensive for the poor course conditions, at $35 per player & that was with a 1:00pm tee-time. Looked like the irrigation system was insufficient or under-uses. The grass was starved for water, and mostly burnt up. But overall its a great layout, and their signature hole is one of my favorites. This course plays really long at 7,000+ yards from the tips, but the difficultly lies in those rolling hills and super fast greens that force you to factor the grain into your short game.

The staff does a great job taking care of the course
I played 18 holes with two people that I was paired up with. The clubhouse and the bathrooms around the course were well taken care of. The cart paths were in great shape. I found the spacing of the sand traps to be challenging. I had a great time.

Nice layout
Greens still bumpy from recent aeration but layout on heron and egret nines was wonderful.

Good value
I did golf now for $45 at 0945, great tee boxes, decent greens although they were areated.

nice - could be great if...
course was dried out (it has been extremely dry for awhile) and bunkers were needing fixing, but always a good round and a challenge.

Great Practice areas
The practice green offers a putting and short chipping area that is close to the starter. Driving range located just across path from the green. Well thought layout.
I expected to play faster with a late afternoon tee time. We offer had three groups on one hole but got done in about 2.5 hours.

NEED CART PATHS REPAIRED
Cart paths need repair badly. This is the third time I have reported this!

Would play again
Course was in good shape. Greens were fast, fairways were good but bunkers need work. They weren't raked and were packed. Staff has a lot room for improvement! The course was packed today so maybe they just weren't use to it which made it a little chaotic. Once on the course though it was a good time.

Not maintained
Layout was ok but the course really needed some TLC. Greens were unhittable. Some many older golfers pac of play was slooooooow!!!!
Sub 4 hour round
Cart paths need work but this course is really a gem.

Interesting Layout & Fun to Play
Played as a couple with 2 others who were familiar with the course. The greens were quick and in good conditions, sand was excellent, tees and fairways grassed in well and fairways pretty open. Glad to have someone who knew the course with us because at times we needed advice as to where to hit tee shots because of all the bunkers and dog legs. Will be back again.

Ranger Rick
Course is in great shape. Greens are quick but true. We were stuck behind two foursomes of friends who were very slow. Ranger Rick routed us around them to play our last five holes with no one in front of us. I have read a number of reviews complaining about pace of play at this course. It appears they are doing something about it.
