Carolina National Golf Club - Ibis Nine
About
The three different nines at Carolina National Golf Club are named after the birds that inhabit the acres of beautiful low country that the course sits on. Fred Coupes designed the 27-hole layout, taking care to preserve the beautiful natural landscape and wildlife provided by its location on the shores of the Lockwood Folly River. His work earned the golf course designation as an Audubon Sanctuary. The nines: Ibis, Egret, and Heron; all have different challenges. However, they all have challenging greens that boast some of the best conditions in the area. The Ibis is the most player-friendly of the nines. Carolina National Golf Club's 27-hole layout is played as three different 18-hole combinations. The Ibis offers some opportunities to recover your score since it is not quite as long as either the Egret or Heron.

A pleasurable day of golf
A very well layed out course very challenging and exciting with wild life about I would recommend this course to friends and family thank you.
Need to fix cart paths
This Fred Couples design composed of three nine hole layouts. All of the courses in this area lost greens due to the hard winter. One of the 9's is still closed.
The fairways were in great shape for the most part. We played early the morning after a very hard and long series of thunderstorms. Other than having to play the 90 degree cart path rule, you would not have know that it had rained at all. The only complaint that my son and I had was that the cart paths need to be redone. It seemed that almost every hole had concrete uplifted . We will play it again next trip down.
Greens pretty much recovered sand traps need alot of work .Course is not in as good of shape as it was a year ago but worth the 35 GN rate for sure
Course is improving with time
I went as a single and got paired with 3 other guys. Was a great group, we had a good time. Tee boxes and fairways were good (not great) conditions. Only 2-3 greens were in bad shape. Apparently most courses down here are rough in one area or another due to the winter. Clubhouse had a good pastrami and swiss.
Dead Grass fairways
winter took a great toll on this course, dead grass fairways, green were just sanded but still in tough shape, whole course will need major work to even get back to OK shape
Never again
Made online reservstions. Drove 2 hrs to get to a course , that at one time was excellent. The starter shows us the putting green which is mostly green dye or paint?? And says the greens are better than that, but that we would have to play part of egret and Heron courses , and that Ibis was closed. Out of 18 holes . 18 holes had greens with less than 30% grass. A couple actually looked like a painted tennis court or something. Sand trap full of water from who knows where because it was dry and dusty . Place desperately needs fertilizer and some water on the grass not trap. After the game we asked what happened to the course?? Hard Winter they said... Its May . You can at least rake the traps..we have played Pine Hurst and some old country courses too that wasn't near this bad.I won't be fooled again and spend my hard earned money on this less than a old country course for the price of resort golf..!! Should not be taking tee times with that kind of course conditions!!!!
Terrible!!!!
Played on 4/21/18. Called a few days in advance to check on course conditions because I had seen some poor reviews online from a couple weeks earlier. The guy in the pro shop told me on the phone that Egret was in "near perfect" condition and that Heron had a "couple bad places". Let me tell you, it was the worst course I have ever played. The layout is great but the greens and the fairways were unplayable. Fairways had NO GRASS and were hard as a rock. The greens were a disgrace. They were painted green and felt like concrete. I know that several courses down here had a rough winter. However, flat out LYING to a person just to get their money is down right criminal. This course use to be one of the best in the area when Bluegreen ran it. Current management should be ashamed. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and the NC Secretary of State. I am sure they will not reply to this post. Again, poor management!!! STAY AWAY!!!!
Greens are hurting
Appears as though the winter has been hard on the greens...we have played this course in better conditions and love the layout and challenge. Will check it out again in a month or so to see if the greens can bounce back.
Liked Course
We played 18 today and it was slow. It was a 5 hour round. I did something to the ranger at the turn and it did get a little faster on the second nine. The greens on the second nine were sand covered and painted, which isn't bad except we paid a premium price. Our group loved the lay out and thought the course was great, we will play it again and recommend it to be played.
Can Be a Good Experience
Arrived early afternoon for our tee time and found the course very busy. Found the staff very friendly and engaging. Club house was very nice and clean but found it strange that a permanent sign indicated the bar closed at 6:00. While waiting for our tee time we wanted to putt but putting green was closed and as we soon found out that ALL greens were lost and there was no grass on the putting surfaces. We had played 4 other courses during the week and Carolina National had the worst greens. We were assigned to play the Herron and Egret courses. Fairways were ok but the Bermuda had not come in yet. Bunkers were in good shape. Once you got past the starter there was no course marshal to monitor play or to move you to a open nine at the turn. It took us 5.5 hours to play 18 due to slow play in front of us. If you are a hacker and can't hit the ball more than 50 yards at a time or keep the ball within reasonable boundaries of the fairway this course is NOT for you. The multiple tee box options make the challenges of each hole acceptable for the average or experienced golfer. It was in the low 80's the day we played and some of the water stations on the course were empty. We attempted to get something to drink from the snack bar at the turn but it was closed which again seemed unusual for a course like this. Once we finally finished our round it was like a ghost town around the club house. Very few vehicles in the parking lot, appeared to be no activity in the club house and the only staff visible were the ones receiving carts at the bag drop area.
In the current condition this course is not worth the $45 to $69 green fee. We would like to play again if the greens are able to be restored and the fairways come in but would suggest you call ahead to verify. It is a long drive from Myrtle Beach to play this course in its current condition.
It was a beautiful day.
We played our first round here on our arrival to NC. And enjoyed the course very much
Felt like the course was overbooked. Second group off in the morning and when we hit the turn they had put three groups teeing off in front off us which made for a three hour back nine. Played all week at other various courses and never felt crammed
Great layout
Although the layout was very good, the fairway conditions were despicable! If you like to play on dirt this time of year, this is the place. They do not overseed so the fairways were still all dormant. If I knew this I would never have booked a tee time. Also, the course was very poorly marked. Difficult at times finding proper tee box.
Course was great for the hot deal price. However it was a 5 1/2 hour round. A course this nice really needs to have a ranger control slow play.
Poor conditions
Not only were the conditions very poor it took over 3 hours to play the front nine. No fairway to hit from nd greens were over seeded and like putting on cement.
Great Course and Staff
Played this course for the first time this past weekend. While the grass hasn't greened up yet for the season, it isn't packed down mud like the course we played the day before. The fairways gave good roll, and there was enough grass to hit decent shots. The greens weren't perfect, and were pretty quick, but definitely playable. The staff was extremely friendly, especially the starter. The only complaint we had is that when we turned around 3:30, the snack bar was already closed, and so we were not able to get a snack. Drinks were available in bottles from the clubhouse ($3).
5/3/18, course still has hardly any grass on the greens. Looks like green tennis court or hard packed painted dirt.. seen the starter, pro shop attendant and two cart guys, no one mowing the weeds , cleaning or anything..course is worst ive played. Its like everyone has been laid off .
