Carolina National Golf Club - Ibis Nine
About
The three different nines at Carolina National Golf Club are named after the birds that inhabit the acres of beautiful low country that the course sits on. Fred Coupes designed the 27-hole layout, taking care to preserve the beautiful natural landscape and wildlife provided by its location on the shores of the Lockwood Folly River. His work earned the golf course designation as an Audubon Sanctuary. The nines: Ibis, Egret, and Heron; all have different challenges. However, they all have challenging greens that boast some of the best conditions in the area. The Ibis is the most player-friendly of the nines. Carolina National Golf Club's 27-hole layout is played as three different 18-hole combinations. The Ibis offers some opportunities to recover your score since it is not quite as long as either the Egret or Heron.

Diamond in the rough
Got a hot deal on golf now 44 bucks . 130 tee time .regular rate would have Been 69 bucks glad I didn't have to pay that!!!!!Course was running about 10-15 min behind schedule.
So we hit the range . MATTS only . Oh well .
The tee boxes had no grass, and the fairways were dormant and in poor shape . The greens were fertilized and top dressed , but ran true and were rolled and quick ,Tough to hold . Played with some regular customers they said they never seen it this poor shape .
I Played here before this time of year and they overseeded but no this time around .This was a one of my favs....
I will try it again in the future , but this time it wasn't worth it .
Pace of play was poor , no rangers and no bev cart
Waited on every hole played over 4.5 hours .
Weather was nice :)
Would like to play again.
Course was still brown and thin in places so chipping a challenge. Fairways very hard and could not find a couple of balls hit in the fairways. Greens were quite fast and hard. Some blind shots that we did not anticipate from tee.
All in all an enjoyable day and would play again.
Very interesting layout
Freddie Couples design is interesting & unique. Fun, challenging layout. I'll play it often!
Consistently good!
As a local, I play CN often. If I can take advantage of the GN specials, I do! The club is generally in good shape and pace of play is only slow when they get really crowded (weekends especially). CN is always a very fun course to play and generally a good bargain for locals.
Heron OK, Ibis way to wet.
Cart path only. Should have been allowed cart on Heron. Ibis obviously wet. Cart path only a real work out, particularly with distances involved in getting to the greens. Greens putted well and fairways were OK but was somewhat disappointed in dormant Bermuda glass. Frankly thought course a little over rated and would prefer Rivers Edge over this course.
Nice course
Always a pace of play issue. Staff don't go out if their way. Greens improved, fairways thin right now. Nice variety of holes
Diversity of layout
I played this course with some friends of average golfing ability. We really enjoyed how each hole is different from the rest. It required you to make many different shots. You can change the difficulty of the course based on which teebox you play. You had to hit over waste areas on many of the holes. There were a couple of holes on the marsh with very scenic views. Everyone in the group definitely enjoyed it
Hard course
Good layout. very hard for regular player. Green in great shape
It was a 2 sleeve day for me!
We played the Heron & Ibis 9 hole courses. The courses were in great shape considering that Hurricane Matthew came rolling through 3 weeks ago. The service was great from the bag drop attendants to check-in, starter, cart girl and bartenders. Both courses have water, bunkers and nasty Bermuda rough to contend with. Oh, did I mention the large undulating greens? We had our hands full for the 4 1/2 loop. I highly recommend to make the trip to this property!
A very nice course but I expected more
First time playing Carolina National and my expectations were high. While it is very nice course especially for the great price I got on GolfNow I expected more. The course was in good shape. The greens were in great condition, fast but consistent. The fairways were also in good condition. The bunkers were the nicest I have seen with soft manicured sand. There are several interesting holes which required thought and more than just hitting long off the tee. The practice green was nice and seemed to be consistent with the greens on the course. The under stocked pro shop was a disappointment especially being out of logo balls. I was put in with a group down from Canada which made my day very enjoyable. I had a lot of fun to playing with them. Sometimes you just get lucky. Overall I had a good experience and would repeat but with expectations not so high.
Good Course, Great Value
Very enjoyable day! Little worried going in because of past reviews but conditions were very good all around. Course layout was solid, especially par 3's. Not overly difficult, generous landing areas and fairly short but has enough teeth to keep you engaged. Highly recommend for the $36 rate I paid.
Nice to play it again....
Pace of play EXTREMELY SLOW, OVER FIVE HOUR ROUND, and not due to us. (I shot 78)
And the starter screwed up our tee time, which was delayed by morning fog anyways, even though we were on the tee box at Ibis. They should have been
able to get back on time and keep play moving by mid afternoon when we started. No cart girl either!
Course in perfect shape
Staff extremely friendly, course in great shape after hurricane Matthew. Nice layout.
Bad Customer Service
The course itself was good. The woman in the pro shop was absolutely the rudest person I've ever met. She is known as "direct" by the club staff. To make matters worse, on the 9th tee we were rudely told to speed up play by one of the assistant pros. We had seen no one behind us since #2. We called and left a voice mail with the head professional, who never got back to us.
Played all 3 9s
We actually played all 3 of the 9s at Carolina National so my review is of all 3. I will say that the Ibis 9 looks quite different than the other 2 9s but all were enjoyable. We had a group of 7 and got an excellent deal to play all 27 holes and lunch which was anything on the menu. Super price since we are not locals and cannot get local rate.
The course was in excellent condition. No complaints. Tee boxes, greens, bunkers, fairways...all well manicured. Staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. Had one of the best burgers I have had at any restaurant here.
Great course!
Course was hard but fun with beautiful seniry. Each hole was unique. Rolling hills which you don't expect at beach. Staff was great. Reminded everyone to check cart for anything that might have been left. Carts had coolers with ice. Definitely will be back.
Good shape considering
We played this course after a tropical storm moved through the area dumping 4-6 inches of rain in the area. Course drained very well, greens were excellent. It was cart path only but could have been 90 degrees. Only bad thing to report is that the sand traps were terrible. Staff had not done anything to the traps and there were trenches from the rain.
Great experience
People were extremely nice giving a great course layout and recommendations on how to play the course. Had a great time!
This course is fair but challenging as well.
Always enjoy playing this course. The champion Bermuda greens are nice! Took a few holes. To get used to both the pace and how to play for breaks, due to being used to bent grass greens. I played on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't believe the course was wide open. Played in well under four hours. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
