Carolina National Golf Club - Ibis Nine
About
The three different nines at Carolina National Golf Club are named after the birds that inhabit the acres of beautiful low country that the course sits on. Fred Coupes designed the 27-hole layout, taking care to preserve the beautiful natural landscape and wildlife provided by its location on the shores of the Lockwood Folly River. His work earned the golf course designation as an Audubon Sanctuary. The nines: Ibis, Egret, and Heron; all have different challenges. However, they all have challenging greens that boast some of the best conditions in the area. The Ibis is the most player-friendly of the nines. Carolina National Golf Club's 27-hole layout is played as three different 18-hole combinations. The Ibis offers some opportunities to recover your score since it is not quite as long as either the Egret or Heron.

Great Layout
I played the Egret and Heron nines. Five sets of tee boxes to fit any game. The course in my opinion is a great layout. Incredible use of the natural topography and environment. I rated the course conditions average because of the greens. They are Champion Bermuda not Bent as you see above. There was a warm spell a couple weeks ago and it appears that the grounds crew expected it to continue and the greens to thrive. Not what happened and there were more than a few greens where you were putting across dirt. When the temps stay consistently warm and the grass thrives I am sure the greens will be great. The tees and the fairways were in good shape for the time of year. There was really no rough to speak of but again due to the time of year. The bunkers were another issue all together. It appeared as if they had not been power raked in days. Not one green side bunker had been touched by the grounds crew. The sand is inconsistent in depth and texture throughout the two nines I played. I do like that they haven't fell victim to removing bunkers to help pace of play. There are plenty of forced carries either off the tee or approaching the green. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious at the bar after the round. Very fair prices and plenty to choose from. Good selection of merchandise in the clubhouse as well. I will be back to play here again when the course greens up a bit more, especially the greens. The par 3 5th hole on Heron is in my top 3 of par 3 holes I have played. Great hole and awesome use of the land.
Great
Guys annual December golf outing. Played 27 holes and lunch for 59$. The course was in great shape for a December tee time of 10:30 . Very helpful and friendly staff. Lunch was good also. The only thing is if you are going to play 27 holes and lunch do not set up a tee time after 9:30am ! We were playing our last hole after sun set witch was fun too me but could not see were tee shot went. All and all we had a blast and will be returning next December!!!!
What a country club should be.
Fantastic course in amazing condition. Friendly staff.
Would like to see a club selection in the pro-shop, only one bag of misc. Clubs and a handful of putters.
Great Course with messed up tee management
First let me say I love these courses. I have played here 4 times now and love all 3 nines. Heron and Ibis are my favorites. Egret is good too just more homes. The routing is excellent and the courses are kept in top shape. On the day we played fairways a little long thus slow and greens firm and fast. My only issue is with the management of tee times and 9 hole routing. We had a tee time of 12:30 however due to issues with lack of carts and player routing we did not get a cart until 12:55 and tee off until 01:05 pm. On top of that the cart battery started dying at hole 13 and we barely made it back to the clubhouse where it died. Does that mean I will never play here again? Nope love the courses and the rates are reasonable however will be very careful to check with shop before making tee times on what is going on the day of play.
Course not for the weak at heart
First of all, this was the second nine we played following the Egret nine. This course is very challenging. Our group (aged 59-61) played the senior tees. The problem was, the senior tees seemed to be more difficult than the blue tees in regards to tee off positions. We definitely would have been better off with the blue tees. The greens were very, very fast and did not hold approach shots. Made for a difficult time with many of the pin positions.
We really enjoyed the layout and it was a great 'back woods' feel. Would recommend this course, but be prepared for a stiff challenge.
Also, the scorecard gives no hole information and there are no plaques at tee boxes to give you any idea what lies ahead. Definitely a drawback!
Great course
Friendly staff...Great course.
Greens were fantastic!
Excellent condition
The Egret nine is a very nice layout. There are no unseen hazards or extremely difficult holes, so it was good for us first timers here. Many fairway traps require accurate tee shots. The course was in excellent condition and all of the staff was exceptionally helpful. I would definitely play here again.
Great Golf Course
Golf Now course description button is not correct. Golf Now shows the course as a 9 hole course. It is a beautiful 27 hole course. Had a great time.
great 9, excellent drainage after heavy rain
played Ibis after tons of rain, was in incredibly good shape, greens still rolled fast.
Wow
The course was in phenomenal shape. Probably fastest greens I've ever played. Beautiful scenery and an all around great time. Will be coming back regularly when I visit in the summer. Kids play free until 16 years old which is an added bonus. My son also had a great time.
Challenging
Windy day , seemed we played the first nine with the wind to our back, back nine in our face. Greens were in great shape, fairways were browned out in spots but overall the course was in good shape. We played the blue tees. I will definitely return to play again.
GOOD CHALLENGE
27 hole course with a variety of holes, great condition, not a course to get on the tee and just hit away, you must look at each hole and play to your ability or your score will go up.
2017 Beach Trip
What a great time we had at Carolina National this year. If you want a good solid round and a very friendly staff to assist you. try this course. Long drive from North Myrtle Beach but worth it!
Carolina on my mind
Very nice course in a great setting.......all was very positive except for general condition of the fairways, which were dried out and very hard.
Would be a pleasure playing this course in pristine condition, but wouldn't hurry back till there is some growth and greening of the fairways..
Heron course was in very poor condition. Fairways and tee boxes were very dried out with little decent grass.
Shocking how poor the conditions were since I played this course a few years ago and it was in beautiful shape. Cart path only from rain two days prior and the fairways were dry and hard. Played Egret for second nine and it was a little better. Greens were marginal. Nothing great. Would not recommend this year.
Course condition
excellent condition if you take in considération that is was very cold the last few weeks so the fairway as not as Green that they are suppose be. Great Golf course
Fast Greens and Great Views
This course is one of my favorite layouts I have ever played. The course was not in the best condition but if was clear that this is uncommon. The area hadn't had rain is what looked like in months. The greens rolled true and lightening quick but the rest of the course could use some water. The club house was in a perfect position and the staff was awesome. The course was great for people off all skill levels, not the most difficult but rewarded great shots. Would absolutely play again!
