About
Situated along the banks of the Lockwood Folly River, Carolina National Golf Club takes advantage of the scenic low country landscape. The 27-hole course was designed by Fred Couples, whose preservation of the terrain earned the course the certification as an Audubon Sanctuary. The golf course is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Heron, Egret, and Ibis are named after the birds that call the course home. Each nine offers a different set of challenges. The Heron is both the most scenic and the longest nine. The three par 4s all measure over 400 yards and the final hole is a par 5 that is 587 yards long. The layout has a few holes that play along the river, including the par-3 fifth, which has a green that is almost entirely surrounded by water. This nine will reward strong mid-to-long iron play.

Not the best
Fairways were the brownest of all courses I played in the Myrtle Beach area. Snack bar closed and no beverage cart

It's that time of year where you're at the mercy of Mother Nature.Course was wet in a few places but that's not the fault of the owners.

Challenging course
Played this course on a Monday afternoon. Pace of play on the first nine was three hours and we had to skip two holes on the back to finish in time. Bunkers on the Ibis nine have little to no sand and I actually bent my sand wedge trying to hit a bunker shot. Greens are quite bumpy and have dozens of ball marks.
the good news is that the course looks better than it did in 2020. The turf conditions are getting better. I look forward to playing the course once everything greens up and they put sand in the bunkers.I will make sure I bring my phone to use one of the golf apps to see the layout as the scorecard does not have any pictures and the holes are full of dog legs.

Course condition and wait staff at bar
The ibis course was under water for most of the holes. Course was unplayable and they either shouldn’t have sent us out, warned us or refunded a portion of our fees. Staff in bar are horrible.

Carolina National is a great course. We played Ibis to Egret. New Year’s Eve and 70 degrees. What more could you ask for.

Beautiful Course
The course has a lot of beautiful holes and views. It was in great shape. The fairways/rough was near perfect and the greens were good, but not great. Definitely fast. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. The starter let me and my partner go 45 minutes before our scheduled tee time to try and get all 18 holes in. The pace of play was very slow due to it being crowded and cart path only because of rain. I would highly recommend this course!

Nice course - especially if you can get a deal on Price
I forgot I played here 5 years ago - but it came back to me once I got to the clubhouse. Course has 3 9-holes so multiple “options” on which “18” you will play. I played Ibis and Herron and enjoyed it. The course was in pretty good condition for late November. I wasn’t too happy that as the first tee time, we caught the “last” group going off the other 9 when we made the turn. We didn’t even play the front 9 quickly (2 hours) but then having to wait on all shots in the 2nd nine was not great. But overall, I would go back.
