Anderson Creek Golf Club
About
When Anderson Creek Golf Club first opened in 2001 it was immediately recognized as the "Best New Golf Course in North Carolina." The course was designed by 1997 PGA Championship winner Davis Love III, it was his first signature design in North Carolina. It has a traditional layout that epitomizes golf in the Carolina Sandhills. The layout features rolling emerald fairways lined with towering pines and undulating greens bordered by large roll-off areas, a tribute to the classic Donald Ross designs that are prevalent in the Sandhills. The challenging golf course has tricky doglegs and there are a variety of elevation changes throughout. Water comes into play on a few holes at Anderson Creek Golf Club, most memorably though on the par-3 fourth, which demands a carry over a large lake. Strategically placed bunkers also lurk along the greensides.

Used to enjoy this course
Our foursome took on a solo guy in front of us because the two groups of members in front of him were playing ridiculously slow. Then our group was blamed for holding up the pace of play for the members behind us. We were told we had to split up. I get the rules don't allow for more than four, but pace of play was faster with us as a group rather than separate. Nothing was ever said to the member groups that were actually holding us up. By their logic the pace should have sped up after we split up. We even had one of ours drop off after 9 holes due to an injury, and it still took almost 5 hours to play a course that normally takes 4. I don't expect to get the same treatment as members, but treating others as second class citizens is not right. I dont plan on going back here anytime soon.

Great value. Great layout
It is difficult to fully evaluate course conditions during winter play but the layout does hold your attention during the round. Tees are placed well for all levels of play. The community that surrounds the course adds ambiance.

What happened to this course
I’ve played this course several times before in the past. But yesterday was THE WORSE shape I’ve ever seen the course. Tee boxes were terrible. No grass in the fairways to hit off of. Sand traps need work. Greens were in good shape though. Other than the greens, this course is in horrible shape. I don’t know if they have changed management or out of money but OMG... I could not believe it.

Anderson creek
The course is always in great condition, we went in the winter time so the pace of play was perfect since we were the only ones out there.

Nice course... average conditions
To be fair, playing most public courses in the middle of the winter means less than great conditions. With that said: the layout was good with many hazards and layups that encouraged course management throughout the round. Member told us that they replaced the greens 3 years ago (bent grass) and they were in good shape and rolled well. However, more than half of the fairways were not in great shape and seemed to suffer from drainage issues (they were mucky and being in the fairway off the tee was not necessarily advantageous). The sand traps also seemed not to be maintained well and many had standing water or were unplayable. Overall, the day was beautiful, and we enjoyed our round for what it was and how much it cost. The staff was friendly and helpful and that was a plus.

The weather was rainy and greens still like glass AWESOME…
Great track
Course was in great condition for winter, even after a good rain the day before. The greens were in amazing condition
Always a good experience
We drive an hour and half few times a year to play this course. Practice areas to the course are always in good condition (for the times of the year). Looking forward to the next round.
Excellent greens
This is the first time I have played this course in about 6-7 years. The greens are in excellent condition and are fast. The fairways are mostly in good condition with a few areas of sparse grass. We played the white tees and shoot between 85 and 95 usually. Compared to other courses in the Triangle area, we felt this course was longer than many from these tees and the traps made getting on the green in regulation challenging. The course was quite wet today because of the heavy rains we had a couple nights ago. We didn't use the snack shop or order any food. The golf carts are new and ran very smoothly. The carts had the brakes where when you touch the brake pad the cart stops automatically even on a hill and there is no stomping on the brake to get it to stay put. This is a very nice feature. The carts also have a nice GPS system giving you the distances to the center of the green and a layout of the hole. The negative part of the carts was that the gas and brake feel too close to the driver where I had to pull my foot back quite a bit to control them. I'm 6'2 and it felt awkward. The last thing is the cart felt narrower than most carts. My partner and I are both big guys but we have used other carts before and it didn't feel as tight as these carts do. We would definitely come back and the negative cart comments are not severe enough to keep us away.
First time at Anderson Creek
Greens were super fast even though it rained overnight. The golf course was in really good condition. The golf carts had paper score cards and
Digital score cards with GPS and blu tooth compatible so you can play music and more. We will be coming back to play again.
