Anderson Creek Golf Club
About
When Anderson Creek Golf Club first opened in 2001 it was immediately recognized as the "Best New Golf Course in North Carolina." The course was designed by 1997 PGA Championship winner Davis Love III, it was his first signature design in North Carolina. It has a traditional layout that epitomizes golf in the Carolina Sandhills. The layout features rolling emerald fairways lined with towering pines and undulating greens bordered by large roll-off areas, a tribute to the classic Donald Ross designs that are prevalent in the Sandhills. The challenging golf course has tricky doglegs and there are a variety of elevation changes throughout. Water comes into play on a few holes at Anderson Creek Golf Club, most memorably though on the par-3 fourth, which demands a carry over a large lake. Strategically placed bunkers also lurk along the greensides.

Mixed emotions
The condition of the golf course was not great. Several fairways were lost apparently to drought. The rest of the fairways were spotty. Bunkers were also disappointing. Almost completely unprepared. Rocks aplenty and washed out. Poor drainage left muddy bottoms on several as well. Tees were also severely stressed and patchy. The greens were decent. Plenty of grass and rolled consistently and true at a pace I’d estimate at 9. I loved the layout. Demanding off of the tee with good shot value. While some fairways gave you a 50 yard target others required playing into narrow area if you wanted to take advantage of doglegs or reach the par 5’s. Targets were appropriately bunkered or guarded by other obstructions. There was a nice mix of flat and sloping fairways with well placed bunkering. Green complexes were appropriately sized and contoured.
I would love to play this course when it is properly conditioned. I’ll consider other numerous options around Pinhurst though before driving almost an hour to play here again.
Ranger Needed
Course was great as it has always been when I’ve been out. However, had a group of SIX members decide to jump out for nine holes right before we made the turn. We waited on them from home 11 on! Definitely makes non-members not want to return.
Almost Heaven
Great course. Cart path only the day I played. Some water in some bunkers and few wet fairways. Challenging course that requires you to think and plan your route to the greens. I enjoyed my round but next time I play this course I am going to move up a set of tees.
Great Course but Terrible Pace of Play
Golf course is well designed and maintained but we ended up having a 5 1/2 hour round
There was a marshal on the course but he did not seem to be addressing the bottle necks
Very nice!
Fun, challenging course. The greens were rolling beautifully. The bunkers make the course very challenging. Their restaurant has the best Reuben I've ever had.
Almost Heaven
Long, well designed, very few level lies, well manicured, thinkers course, and a challenging experience! A treat to play.
It’s been better
Fairways were very thin . Bunkers were unplayable . Tee boxes were equal amounts of dirt and grass .
This is a challenging yet fun layout but needs some work
Great course. Play from the correct tees. Course can be long if you don't.
Fun First Trip Around!
Me and two buddies thoroughly enjoyed our first trip around Anderson Creek GC. The course was great, especially the greens! While they were pretty slow with all the rain the day before, they still managed to offer a major challenge considering where the pins where. The rest of the course was in ok shape but honestly it looked like a lot of courses towards the end of Summer that have had thousands of rounds played on it. The staff was very nice, especially the ladies working the bar. Made us feel so welcome and made some absolutely delicious transfusions. Will definitely be making the drive again soon.
STRESS FREE GOLF
First time playing here and enjoyed every minute. Took a friend visiting from NYC and he thought it was one of the nicest courses he has ever played. We enjoyed the pace, the staff, the price and really enjoyed the challenging layout. Highly recommend!!
Bunkers?
Bunkers are such a huge part of any golf course so if you install them, maintain them. Fairways looked like late April condition. Tee boxes were subject. Staff was friendly enough. Greens were okay. The layout is awesome.
Love the home town course but we need rain.
Green are getting plenty of water but the fairways and rough are struggling right now. The lack of rain has dried everything out and the ponds they use to water the course are pretty low as well. I will always support my course but just know your ball gonna run an extra 50 yards off the drive.
Great Course- great staff
I play here often, the course is wonderful, the staff is super friendly, the golf carts are the best in the state of North Carolina, however the tee boxes were in bad shape, they were a little dried out. This was the first time I ever experienced anything at this course that can be considered a negative.
I am already planning my next foursome at this course-
Awesome Course
This is a Gem of a course it is layer out beautifully and the new carts are the Best there is the amenities on course and off are very good it's only going to get better once they start building more restaurants and hotels around the area and shopping centers you will host some major tournaments for the state and country. Thank you.
Parched is an understatement
Played in a GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour event here today. I have played this course four or five times this year and the conditions were the worst I’ve seen in a long time at any course. Tournament golf and there are no range balls available to warm up. Three employees chatting at the starters table I asked and they flat out said they were “out of range balls”. I asked if anyone ever picks them up. Tees and fairways were dry and hard as rock. I felt as if I were hitting off hard pan all day. Greens were still healing from aeration four weeks ago and quite bumpy and slow. I don’t recommend playing Anderson creek until we get some steady rains or they figure out the irrigation system.
