Anderson Creek Golf Club
About
When Anderson Creek Golf Club first opened in 2001 it was immediately recognized as the "Best New Golf Course in North Carolina." The course was designed by 1997 PGA Championship winner Davis Love III, it was his first signature design in North Carolina. It has a traditional layout that epitomizes golf in the Carolina Sandhills. The layout features rolling emerald fairways lined with towering pines and undulating greens bordered by large roll-off areas, a tribute to the classic Donald Ross designs that are prevalent in the Sandhills. The challenging golf course has tricky doglegs and there are a variety of elevation changes throughout. Water comes into play on a few holes at Anderson Creek Golf Club, most memorably though on the par-3 fourth, which demands a carry over a large lake. Strategically placed bunkers also lurk along the greensides.

The par-3 fourth hole plays over water. Photo submitted by JasonDeeganGA on 12/20/2013
The worst experience on a golf course
We were stuck behind many foursomes on a day of cart path only, which is to be expected on a Saturday. I was paired with two other folks from out of town, one of which was a beginner. We were waiting on tee shots, but nothing crazy for the first two holes. I noticed on the second, which is a par 5 with a blind first shot, that the group behind us hit into us while I was waiting because I can reach in two but they can see our carts. Long story short this happens for two of the next three holes, the only one they didn’t hit into us was a par 3 but they barely let us get in our carts before hitting. They were not abiding by the cart path only rule, and didn’t hit it that far so I was thinking maybe they think this is normal behavior. I get aggravated because I honestly don’t think they are finishing the hole, but are just trying to play through despite the fact they have nowhere to go and we are keeping pace with the group in front of us. Finally on hole eight they almost hit me with a drive and barely miss our carts on the cart path, I get aggravated and tell them I can’t do anything about the pace of play and to stop hitting into us. One of them basically says I didn’t hit you so what’s the problem, on the next hole an argument happens in which one of them, who is in the army and so am I ,tries to pull rank on one person in my group who is a civilian, they don’t apologize at all and act like we should shut up and take their abuse. After several minutes and yelling on the golf course I tell them I’m calling the clubhouse then they try to apologize. I said I’m going to talk to them anyway. I talk to the clubhouse and they say they are going to talk to them, I said they should be kicked from the course. They are given a warning. Afterwards the new golfer in our group forgets a wedge and they pick it up and then lie about it after being asked until the 18th hole at which time they return it to me, not the owner of the wedge and then basically try to instigate a fist fight. These people should NEVER be allowed on a golf course and the fact this place allowed them to stay says a lot about what clientele they want at their golf course. I will never be back, I was angry and ashamed by the way these people acted and the lack of care the staff gave the situation. Completely unacceptable!
Anderson Creek - Great Course for Any Golfer
My wife enjoyed our first experience completely. This is a tough course. But, it is set up for golfers like us to play the course without the course beating us. We only played 9 holes, the front nine. Each hole had a character of both risk and reward which was highly enjoyable. We will play here again.
Fun but difficult!
The course was in good shape except for the tee boxes and some areas of rough that were long bermuda that made finding a ball nearly impossible.
This course is fun and is always in my rotation when I am in the area. I must say though, as I've gotten older this coarse has become really difficult. Certainly not for the faint of heart!
The grill has the best golf-burgers you'll ever find! Give it a whirl!
Great coure
Very fair course, but not easy. Eve for November, course conditions top notch.
Great weekday value for money, but geared towards regulars
The course design is excellent with five sets of tee boxes where none of them feel like an afterthought. The residences come into play but except for a couple of holes with townhomes on them only the most errant of hitters will really notice. Very interesting and sometimes deceptive use of bunkers, so you really had to think about each shot - not "Target golf" but course knowledge would play a big role.
The massive challenge for a first time player like us was the lack of any meaningful yardage marking except for the 150 pole. No GPS on the cart is ok, but at least mark the sprinkler heads and the cart paths.
That said, the course was excellent overall, very friendly staff and a great value for the price. At noon on a weekday we had the course to ourselves until a single caught up to us as we were trying to figure out the 16th green. It is in a gated community so leave yourself a few extra minutes to arrive in case the gate house is busy.
Great course, difficult tee shots
It was a very well kept course, great staff, would go back!
