Migrating golfer from Canada
Nice course, we let a Canadian play with us and he was a lot of fun. HEY,,,, Loved the bunker buster on hole #5. Will never forget it... never give up!!!
Great course
Overall this was a great course. The only semi-complaint I had was that there were a few soggy spots in the fairways. However they didn't hamper play; pace or quality, too bad. Very enjoyable experience and would recommend this course to anyone.
Best course I've ever played
I've played a lot of great golf courses, and this one topped them all! That being said, if you're looking to step up and hit driver blindly into the blue, this is not the course for you. Every shot has a challenge to it, and you have to plan each hole. I put myself with no shot on quite a few hole because I didn't know the course very well. Be ready for quite a treat when you book a tee time at Tot Hill, it is worth every penny. I can't wait to play again!
Great layout
Lots of elevation changes which provided many excellent views from the tee boxes. Greens were in very good shape considering the rough winter but the fairways showed the effects. Even though some of the par 3's were relatively short they were extremely challenging and well protected. I would and will play this course again when I get in this area of the country.
It Aint Tobacco Road Thats for Sure
I chose to play here because it was said to be the sister course to Tobacco Road near Pinehurst....Well If it is a sister....Its the Ugly Step Sister!
Range conditions --- Poor
Clubhouse --- Basically a Trailer
Staff --- All about Money / No Personality
Food ---- Average at best
Course Conditions ---- Average at Best
Greens ---- Very Nice ......But
The Course is set up nice with strategic shots being needed to be in position to go at the green. The greens although in great shape were just tricked with false fronts and backs, humps and ridges....Basically a joke.....The course should be the challenge, not hitting the 5 foot square needed to get the ball on some of the greens. This course is exactly opposite of Tobacco Road where the course is challenging and the greens are fair and rewarding. I would NOT go back to Tot Hill nor would I recommend it to friends for all the points I listed above.......My advice------
Make Range a Range -- Not a hill to hit ball off of
Upgrade the cart --- Gas, Really? Welcome to 2014
No GPS ---- Again, welcome to 2014
How bout a Beer and Food Cart
Make your customers feel special, not just a wallet to steal from.
Maybe the manager or Pro should spend a week at Tobacco Road to see how a Course and Staff should be and act!
The weather was nice
Course needs some tlc grass very inconsistent from fairways. Greens pretty solid but collars and fringes not so much very bare.
Great potential but condition not so good
Course has a very interesting layout. But condition was really poor. Not sure if it's just this time of the year. With the cart path only rule it made this course even tougher to play and enjoy.
Did not Play the course
It was cold morning and I arrived early for my time. Nobody on the course and they would not let me play until my time 3 hours later. the course was totally brown. I would go back and try the course in the fall
Worth the Drive
It was well worth the bargain rate I paid for the course. Staff at the golf shop were friendly and helpful.
A game
This course is about enjoying the beautiful landscape and committing to your shot. Plan where you want to hit it and commit. If not, you can get in a lot of trouble. I will be playing this course again.
Fun course
Very interesting course. Has a mountainous feel with lots of elevation change and the rock outcroppings.
Prepare to be humbled.......
From the first tee shot to the last hole, this course will challenge you for 4 hours! Fun, interesting and not your typical hit it anywhere and no penalty golf course. We all had a good time at the course, because just when you "thought" you hit a good shot, it ended up being on the wrong tier of the green or nowhere near the fairway that you thought you had just split the middle of. Loved the course and can't wait to go back in the Spring!
Great features.
I always enjoy tis course. The layout is great with a variety of challenges.
I had not played this course in 10 years. It will be 10 more.
This course doesn't make any sense. Holes on top of each other, and criss-crossing each other. I would hate to be on it if it were crowded. It would be a death trap. Rock formations and rock walls in play and illogically placed throughout the course. Reminded me of a long putt-putt course, just needed a clown and a windmill.
Love it or leave it
This is my favorite course. For those who have opinions about such things its definitely a love it or hate it place, And all of that revolves around the design. As Alice Cooper once said, if you try something and it works out you are a genius, if it doesn't you're an idiot. No disrespect to Mike Strantz, but some of us (including my buddy and I) go with the genius, but understand how opinions could vary.
As to the basics, course is almost always in good shape, Alan and all are helpful and everything you would expect. The part nobody can change is that it is a unique and challenging course out in the middle of nowhere. As for me, if I lived in the area I would be a member and play there most of the time. Some others I have talked to are "one and done."
As to GolfNow, we played it last time for $16! You gotta try it for that even if it does beat you half to death. Bring plenty of balls(of course you may find as many as you lose!), tee it up and good luck!
A most beautiful golf course
Tot Hill Farm has quickly become one of my favorite golf courses in North Carolina. Designer Mike Strantz used the landscape of the hills of NC to perfection, making it feel like you are surrounded by beautiful forest while playing beautiful golf holes. It's not a crazy long course (don't even need a driver on some of the par 4's. The par 3's are incredibly beautiful. The folks running the course are very friendly and welcoming. Play this course! You'll love it, too.
Great Variety
I really loved this course. It was very scenic for this area, although it was fairly managable to play. Most holes had significant increases or decreases in elevationt between the tee and green. The greens were in decent shape. The water hazards, hills, and changes made for a very relaxing day. The 70 degree day toward end of fall with the leaves blowing in a mild breeze made it perfect. It is outside and hour from my home, but this is a course I plan on playing several times a year.
Very challenging course in excellent condition.
I've played this course several times now, and I enjoy it more each time. There is not a boring hole on the course. If you enjoy a challenging, yet rewarding golf course this one is for you.
The best course/value in the state!
This course is fantastic!. It is beautiful, scenic, challenging, and overall a incredible course. Golf Digest rated it 13th toughest course in America a few years ago and its right in our backyard. 90 minutes from Raleigh might seem out there, but it is truly worth the drive. I don't understand the negative condition reviews because the course was pristine. The nicest course I've played excluding Pinehurst No. 8. Seriously don't miss out. Take the drive.
One of my favorite courses Ive played
Round took a while, but we took our time since we were not being pushed and wanted to enjoy the day. Great/fun course and a great deal
Not terribly long...just a lot of elevation changes that require controlling distances.
Greens are in great shape
