Always challenging and fun
Ever since this course opened, it's been a great course to test your ability to place your golf ball around this layout while enjoying the intimidating and sometimes stunning views. Wide and generous fairways make for fairly simple tee shot however, the approach should be well judged as misses usually are penal. Also, the large greens can render poor shots impossible to one or even two putt. Good shots are rewarded and always deliver a sense if accomplishment.
Course was very demanding
Enjoyed playing the course. Had read about its difficulty and it held up to it name. Course was in very good shape. Some areas needed some attention, but did not affect the play ability of the course.
Great course
Great course... conditions were pretty good in both the fairways and on the greens.
Not your normal track.
Tot Hill Farm is a must. It's not like any other course around. The layout on that mountain setting is not only fun to play but breath taking to look at.
Difficult and needs attention
This course is well known as one of the most challenging in NC. The day we played, it was very hot; there was only one water cooler on the back 9 and it was almost empty. The course is showing lack of maintenance for the basic infrastructure...walking bridges, cart paths, greens are burning up and need attention. It is still an amazing place and am exhilarating play. I hate to see it fall apart due to lack of play and maintenance, probably due to its location in Asheboro. We'll go back anyway and enjoy the genius of Mike Starnz just as we always return to Tobacco Rd.
"Tricked Up" course!
This layout has more "blind" shots than any course I have ever played. Some of the shots do not make any sense, except that the hole was manufactured so the player has no idea where to hit the shot to unless the course is played often. The course condition was maintained well, but would not make the 1 1/2 hour drive to play again. It did not live up to the write-up on the course website.
Great experience,on a beautiful very challenging course
One of the most beautiful courses in our area. Visually intimidating but still playable. When you do well on a hole you really feel like you've done something. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Elevation change and huge rocks all over the course makes for and exciting and enjoyable experience.
Disappointing Round
Was really excited about going to ToT Hill. Hadn't been there for a couple of years and what a drastic change it was. Some tee boxes are dying and most weren't mowed. Lots of dead patches in fairway and greens. Many weeds in rough and fairways. Sand traps need to be maintained. I won't make the trip back there until things get better. Such a great course to be in such bad shape.
one of a kind
Quick, friendly check in. No waiting, superb condition. For the price I received, amazing !
One of my favorite courses
I have played this course for years and it is one of my favorites. It is very challenging and every hole is different. The layout is very scenic. You have to be on your game to score well here. All that said I have not played this course in over 6 months because it is a 90 minute drive to get to. I was extremely disappointed in the course conditions. I can't help but wonder if they are in financial trouble. Many of the tee boxes were barren. Large patches of fairway were without grass. Bunkers needed sand. It was very sad to see such a great course in such bad condition.
Challenge
Challenging layout with many blind shots or blind landing areas. They had taken a lot of rain but could tell they were doing best to keep course maintained without a lot of help from Mother Nature. I would go back and I'm sure it is easier second time around the track. If you have the time with out holding anyone up drive up to landing area on blind shots. If I had I would have taken more irons/ 3 woods off the tee. Bring a camera has there are is some spectacular holes!
This course is very hilly
Course needed mowing, but because of all the rain it was too wet to mow. Greens were VERY slow and losing grass in places. Normally(when it hasn't been raining for a solid month) this course is in great shape.
Scenic and Challenging
A great course. We played when the course was soft so it was not as tough as others have said. Quite a bit of walking needed on cart path only days. As long as you hit the ball relatively straight, you should have a good time. However if you have trouble getting off the tee, this could turn frustrating very quickly since balls are not found very often. Elevated tee boxes will give you a little extra distance but will exaggerate tee shots that have movement to them.
Some of the greens are very creative and can be very forgiving or challenging depending on pin location. Most greens have multiple tiers or "zones".
The course was well maintained from fairways to greens and was a spectacular value at $25 from GolfNow. Bunkers are all natural areas and are not highly maintained but you can ground your club which helps.
I shot a 79. The rest of my group scored pretty close to their handicap as well.
Challenging course
Very challenging course with various types of shots. Many elevated tee boxes. Course was in great condition considering all the rain that has fallen recently. Would reccommend.
Great Test!
Great GREAT test of golf. There are birdies out there but if you are off your game the course will swallow you whole. Made the trip out to this little gem at least 5 times in the last year. Now that Im learning where to miss and where not to miss the course is even more enjoyable. Would not recommend to the high handicapper.
Demanding, interesting, not for the faint of heart!
Visually intimidating, but challenging and enjoyable. Leave your high handicap buddies at home, or make sure they have an ample supply of bullets!
Course airefied last week but putted well,
Probably one of my favorite courses. Very Chalenging but has 4 sets of tees, so just pick your level of play. Staff very friendly, Course is just beautiful and only paid $25 on Golfnow, thanks again tim
Fun course
Love this course wish it wasn't so far away from where I live.it is always a treat to play this course the more I play it the better i like it.the staff there are always super friendly .cant wait to play it again!!!!
Will Expose a Weak Game
Tot Hill Farm will expose you if you are not hitting it in the right location. This course is definitely Not for the Novice. But, if you are play well, its very rewarding. The scenery is very nice. I look forward to my return.
Maybe your comment was suited for it's sister course, Tobacco Road, 45minutes down the highway. I've played both and there is not one blind shot at Tot Hill (at least not from the tips) while Tobacco road must have 7-9 blind. Both course rank within our country's top 15 most difficult courses per Golf Digest.
