Unconventional, but typical Mike Strantz design. Friendly staff and beautiful views.

I played this course in November after the leaves have turned colors. Beautiful, just beautiful. The views of the up and downs of the countryside there with the bright green fairways, and the orange, red, and yellow colors of the woods were just awesome.

The course is typical of Mike Strantz golf course architecture. You can go out and shoot a great score if you know where to hit it and can hit it there. Spray the ball around and you'll find plenty of trouble.

This course is a lot like Tobacco Road, another Strantz design, just with a lot less sand. Shots that are visually intimidating are really not as tough as they look. There are a couple of roller coaster greens that are difficult to putt. The greens were hard and fast and wouldn't hold a ball so I found myself trying to play short when there was enough room between the green and the many hazards located between the greens and the fairways.

The course is located little more than an hour away from Pinehurst, so you northerners can play it on the way down or on the way home. Stop by Tobacco Road in Sanford, (just north of Pinehurst) and play the other Mike Strantz course in the area.

The Tot Hill Farm staff was very friendly and the course was in good shape. I'll go back there and play and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to play a course that is very different from what you are probably used to playing.

Length is not the key

I've played this course several times, and if you're not hitting your shots where you're aiming, you'd be better off at ANY other course. That's what I like about this place. I'm a 9 hdcp, and I've shot 75 here, and 95 as well. Never a boring hole.

awsome layout but greens could have been better

A very challenging course with a great layout optimizing the terrain. The grrens were a little sub-standard, but the ball still rolled fairly true. The rough wasn't overly penalizing, which was a plus since there was already enough penalties if you hit a shot offline. Overall, a must play.

Precision shot placement course

A very challenging course. There are numerous natural features (hills, valleys, rocks, etc.) that make this course very appealing to the eye. The scenic views from some of the tee boxes are absolutely beautiful. However, to the average golfer, you will be very frustrated by the end of your round. Errant tee shots that do not find the fairways are often never to be seen again and if you do happen to find the ball, you should just take your lumps and lay the ball up in the fairway. There are numerous blind shots into greens with little margins for error if you should not hit the green. Beware of hidden rocks that can quite often make your ball bounce in strange directions. If you are a precision ball striker, then this is the course for you. If you are an average weekend warrior, be warned because you will have many strokes added to your game.

my favorite course

I know I should not play from the tips ... but if you don't on this course , you'll really miss something . ( uh ... you'll also shoot 150 )

It's hard it's beautiful , and it's not too expensive . The greens were a little rough , but were getting better .
