The Tradition Golf Club

About
The routing for this scenic course was cut out of the woods and features beautiful, rolling terrain. Three of the fairways are testy dogleg configurations while the remaining holes are basically straightaway, which puts a premium on shots to the undulating bentgrass greens. But the course provides a fun test for all levels in a tree-lined natural setting with numerous elevation changes.
The Tradition features a comfortable 5,400 square foot clubhouse, with dining facilities and a fully stocked pro shop. A large range and putting green provide practice opportunities.

Great Layout-Greens need help
The staff were great and so is the layout.I know it's been really hot but the greens were in bad shape and at $40 for the twilight rate with Queen City pass it's a little pricey considering there are other courses in better shape. But I guess to improve the situation money has to be plough end back in to course.
The Tradition Golf Club
The Tradition Golf Club is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, having opened in 1996. It is one of the former Carolina Trail courses, and still seems to be working it's way out of that stigma.
The driving range at The Tradition is often quite busy with people hitting balls. The putting green is kind of awkwardly placed beside the 10th tee, but several hundred yards away from the first tee. The pro shop and snack bar staff were all very nice. Carts are electric and in great shape. The course wasn't very crowded on a late Monday afternoon.
The Tradition is carved out of woods. Virtually every hole is framed by tall trees on both sides of the fairway. It gives the impression of the holes being tighter than they already are. Accurate driving is a key to playing well here. A wayward tee ball is going to be lost in most cases. I am not a big fan of the design and layout of the course. There are too many vanilla holes that seem to all blend in together. Straightaway hole with bunkers in the landing area that then lead to a large, relatively flat green. There are only a few doglegs and only the par 3's break up the monotony of the rest of the layout. Water comes into play on three holes in the form of ponds, and another four or five holes in the form of creeks/ditches. There is some elevation change , particularly on the 9th and 18th tee boxes.
Course conditions were OK. As with most Charlotte area courses, the Bermuda is lush. The rough just a couple of yards off the fairways was hack it out thick. Tee boxes were hit and miss with some being rather shaggy, while others were in good shape. Bunkers had plenty of sand in them, but the level of maintenance varied from bunker to bunker. The bentgrass greens are really starting to show stress from the intense and prolonged hot weather. Dead patches were seen on virtually every green (See pic). As the course winds through wooded areas, most of the greens are surrounded on three sides by trees. There are only fans on one green to circulate air to them, so it's no wonder that the greens are suffering. The maintenance crew was actually punching a green on the back nine as I played. One thing I did notice was the fact that quite a few of the flagsticks were in a state of disrepair. The flags had slid down from the top of the flags about a foot. There were also several bunkers where there were no rakes or a rakehead with no handle. These types of issues, along with the overall course conditions keep me from recommending the course to others.
Very good layout, tight fairways
Really enjoyed my experience at The Tradition. Good layout with lots of trees and some tight fairways but very enjoyable.
Hot hot day on a nice course.
Overall, the course was in very good condition. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in good shape. A couple of spots here and there but nothing that detracted from the round or the impression of the course. I like this course and will continue to play it.
Nice layout, horrible greens
Yes the greens were recently punched but they were not coming back and not enough sand to fill the holes. Ranger told us that they were taking longer than usual to get back in shape.
The round took 5 hours on the dot and the two groups in front of us were together and saw no need to move along. The ranger seemed to try but there was a hole and a half open ahead.
Nice track
Good course. Pace of play was good 3:45. Fun course. Would go back anytime.
Saturday golf
My wife and I played this course twice last year while in town. We enjoyed it so much it brought us back this year. Rough isn't fully grown in yet and greens are fairly slow but pace was great love the course. Staff is always excellent.
Great Day in the Carolinas
Good course value and especially with the Staff friendliness !!
Needs work
The course was full of players and I'm a little surprised about the conditions. The tee boxes were overrun with weeds and looks like they weren't mowed in some time . The fairways were so so but the greens were ok . I like the course layout and may try it one more time in a few months
Masters Sunday
First time out this year, greens had been punched several weeks ago, a little bumpy but rolled fine. Pace of play was good 4 hours. Sausage, egg & cheese was awesome. Staff friendly. Enjoyable day
Great
This course was in good shape. The staff were great and the starter was a happy person
First Time
Got a good Hot Deal and decided to give course a try. Course was in fair condition after torrential rain a few days prior. Enjoyed the course and didn't feel frustrated after the round even though it was my first round of season. I shot terrible but it wasn't the course. I would definitely come again. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Nice Gem in North Charlotte
Good maintenance of this course really shows ! Smooth greens and healthy fairways compliment a terrific layout. Will be back SOON !
Greens can be tricky
Several greens have some difficult undulations. Having knowledge of the greens could save you several strokes.
Soggy Sunday
Played Sunday, course played long because of weather and cart path only rule. Not many players so we finished under 4 hours even with cart paths only rule. Fairways & greens in great shape. A little soggy but overall very nice. Had the Brunswick stew after play WOW, hadn't eaten that sense Mid-Town Sundries. Overall very enjoyable.
A Great Day At The Tradition
I took my friends over on Saturday to play a round. The course was wide open because most fair weather golfers stayed at home. The guys in my group trickled in some needed clubs, divot tools, breakfast and at the turn lunch. The staff at the club treated me and my friends like we were royalty. I had a brats before the round and the egg salad combo at the turn. The food was as great as the staff. They run a wonderful course. The course was soaked from the rains over night but seemed to drain well. The greens rolled nice. Look forward to taking more friends again real soon.
great course
Great course in the charlotte area. Staff is always friendly kind and willing to help.course is always in great shape greens are some of the best around.
Worth the $
Fair track with no houses on it. Lots of elevation changes and decent condition. Paid $35 on golf now, good value.
Good round
A little wet due to recent rain but enjoyed my round
NICE CHALLENGING COURSE
Like the course and played the next day,
Fairways and greens were very good.
Staying the narrow fairways is most important
