Osprey/Heron at Okeeheelee Golf Course
About
With a name meaning 'quiet waters' in the Seminole language, Okeeheelee Golf Course is situated amidst lush, rolling hills that overlook the sparkling waters of Clear Lake. There are 27 championship holes that are divided into three nines and can be played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Osprey, Heron, and Eagle nines are named after the various wildlife that can be seen throughout. Each golf course offers a different set of challenges and scenery. Okeeheelee's Osprey/Heron Course features a variety of elevation changes. There are scenic views from the elevated greens but don't become too distracted since there are many elements to contend with including towering trees, strategically placed bunkers, and deep rough lining the fairways. There are also plenty of water hazards coming into play.

OK Course But...
Short course for those used to play from the white tees. Fairways good condition. Greens quite slow for those used to 9-10 STIMP. Lots of hidden water areas, so if not used to the course, a good looking shot could mean lots of trouble. Average golfers (200 yd drivers) need to be very careful on some holes and club down when in doubt. Windy conditions made this worse, but also a problem on holes where wind was not a major factor. Lots of dogleg holes contributed to hidden dangers.
U get what u pay for......
Cheap rates. NON well kept grass bunkers locker room or anything really. OLD tired looking Everything about it..... But, its NOT horrible!
A real find.
From the moment we checked in the staff was very helpful and welcomed us. The course is well maintained and we finished under 4 hours. During the round the Pro came around and thank us for playing at the course. A nice touch. An enjoyable day at a public course.
Thank you for your review of Okeeheelee. We hope to see you again soon.
Staff was very inconside
I was not able to be on time for my prepaid tee time on Friday 12/23/16. This was due to a small but time consuming family problem. I called the course and advised them of my problem and asked ,and I only asked because the round was prepaid , if they could fit me in later in the day
The staff made it very clear that this was not their problem , and that if I could not
Make the prepaid schedule tee time and that I would lose the money. They also mentioned that they did have available tee times later in the day but that I would have to pay for it separate from my initial payment. As you would imagine I declined their offer and found another course to play at
As a result of these policies of having to prepaid your round and not having any recourse in cause you are not able to attend. I will no longer use Golfnow to make my tee times and clearly have no desire to play a round of golf at this course and have to deal with the indifferent customer service they provide
We apologize for the experience you encountered surrounding your prepaid round on December 23. This tee time was a GolfNow "owned" round. GolfNow does have a refund/credit policy for these prepaid rounds. Please contact them at (800) 594-9280 to inquire about the refund and/or credit. If you have any problems with this process, we would be happy to help by working with GolfNow on your behalf. Please contact Mac Hood, Okeeheelee Golf Course Manager, at 561-629-8800 if you need any assistance.
What is more troubling to us is your description of the customer service you encountered with our staff. While the tee time that you purchased, and its accompanying price, is offered by GolfNow and not our facility, we do try to accommodate golfers with emergencies such as you encountered. We plan on reviewing your comments, and our policy surrounding such instances, with our staff to ensure this doesn't occur again in the future. If you have any more information you would like share about your encounter, please reach out to Mac.
Sporty course with lots of challenges
The Heron Eagle 9s were challenging and scenic with plenty of water holes and scenery, lots of dog legs and plenty of tree trouble and traps. I seemed to find many of these this round. The wind was 15-20 mph and made for an even more adventurous round. Finally, for a Florida course, quite a few uphill shots and side hill lies. Overall an interesting experience especially for a public County owned course.
Thank you for your review of Okeeheelee. We are happy to hear that you found the course both scenic and challenging. We look forward to seeing you on your next trip to the course.
Beautiful course-sloooow pace
Nice little course in fine shape.
I play a lot of courses in Palm Beach County and this course has slowest pace of play by far! Very enjoyable course, just make sure you pack your patience.......
Thank you for your review of Okeeheelee. We are happy to hear that you found the course to be in good shape. Pace of play is certainly an issue that we keep track of, especially during this time of the year when the course tends to be very full. We know how frustrating it can be when the pace is slow, so we will review your comments with our staff to ensure the proper procedures are being followed to keep the pace at our goal of 4:15 per round.
Thank you for your review of Okeeheelee. Please come visit us again soon.

Jam packed course
With a 1:16 tee time we were very disappointed when making the turn to find three foursomes put in front of us. We completed two more holes then called it a day. I asked later about the practice and learned they do this as routine policy.
We apologize for the experience you had with your golf round on November 19.
This situation is not ordinary is not typical of us. We are very serious when it comes to our players satisfaction. We appreciate that you understand that mistakes sometimes happen.
After studying the matter, we found out that this error was the result of our on course player assistants not monitoring the pace of play closely enough. We have addressed your situation with the staff on duty that day and applied corrective measures.
This course is in good condition & has great veiws.
The course is in very good shape.Tees fairwys & greens are in very good shape,& the scenery is great.

GETTING BETTER EVERY DAY
GREAT PUBLIC COURSE THAT IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED, THE STAFF IS GREAT, THE COURSE IS GREAT AND WE(2-SOME) FINSIHED IN ABOUT 3.5 HOURS....
Thank you for your review of Okeeheelee. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the course so well and had such an enjoyable round during your recent visit. Its good to know that our efforts to provide a top-notch facility are paying off and, most importantly, you found our staff to be so hospitable. Please come see us again soon.
terrible condition
Wet, wet, wet...... Price too high for that condition at this time.
Wish the course had been finished repairing.
This is a great place to bring friends to play golf. Even though it's still under construction somewhat we still had a great time until the last three holes where it rained.
We apologize for the wet conditions you experienced at Okeeheelee Golf Course on October 21, 2016. Our area received rain on sixteen days during the month of October and nearly three-quarters of an inch the evening prior to your date of play. We made every effort to move play around to the two driest of our three courses to improve everyone’s experience.
If you ever encounter a problem where you feel the conditions are too wet, please come back into the golf shop and we will be happy to offer a rain check.
Please contact our Manager, Mac Hood at 561-964-4653 and he will satisfy any outstanding issues with your golf experience.
Thank you for reviewing Okeeheelee. We have been renovating and reconstructing some of our tee boxes lately, a process that should be all completed soon as we are currently in the grow-in phase. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the round despite the work on the course and the rain. Please come see us again soon.

Thank you for your review of Okeeheelee. We are happy to hear that you enjoy the course so much and that you plan on returning. We look forward to your next visit.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE
This golf course is by far one of the worst I have ever played and one of the worst in the State of Florida. It's not only the course itself but the "staff" or joke of a staff makes the experience even worse. They are smug and rude and will openly mock people to their face. It not only happened to me but other people who I watched walk in. I walked in and the guy behind the counter didn't even bother to get off his stool or uncross his arms and said to me "what do you want?". Okay, what do you think I want, your working at a golf course. I told him I had a 1:24 tee time and he said "can't you see we are under a lightning strike advisory." I said no because there isn't any sign and there are no clouds in the sky that would indicate that. (The lightning strike that put them in the advisory happened 3 minutes before I arrived and 9.68 miles away). He then preceded to look at the other gentleman and say don't these people look at the light on the top of the building. Let me be clear that I have severe anger issues so it took every part of me not to tear his head off.
After waiting over an hour and the lightning not moving away me and my wife decided to cancel our tee time that we booked on golf now. So we called golf now so they could call the golf course so that our full amount was returned. My wife was on the phone and said to the guy behind the counter they are about to call you. He said to her "this isn't my first time". Now he has been rude to my wife and again I have anger issues so I bite my tongue instead of his.
This isn't the first experience of rudeness I have had. A few months ago I had a 8am tee time. I decided I might try and hit a few on the range before my tee time. I went in around 7:30 and as I paid for my round asked if I could get a bucket. The guy said the range doesn't open till 8:30. Okay, not a problem. As I was walking away he said to another employee "what idiot thinks a driving range would be open this early". I again had to just keep walking for fear of taking a golf club to this guys head. (By the way, I have had 7:30 tee times elsewhere and been able to hit on the range before. I also have a driving range near my house that opens at 8.)
But aside from these people believing they work at some upscale golf course where people are allowed to where jeans and tee shirts to play or cargo shorts and a molly hatchet tank top, the course itself is a despicable mess. The greens look like rhinos run on them every morning, and no one fixes their divots from balls hitting the green. They do a horrible job when they change the pin placement, they are horrible at evening out the edges and taking care of the old pin placement. The tee boxes are garbage and I am pretty sure they only mow the fairways once every two weeks.
Overall, every aspect of this course is HORRIBLE. It may be cheap, but spend a few extra bucks and go somewhere with some decency.
Your comments regarding the service you received at Okeeheelee Golf Course on July 23rd are very important to us. We want customers to enjoy their experience at our facility, so your report of a disturbing experience with one of our golf attendants is a serious concern for us. First, let us express our deepest apologies. You deserve only the best service, especially when you visit Okeeheelee. Second, we are questioning our staff and will take appropriate action insuring such an occurrence will not happen again.
We are sorry that you were unable to hit range balls on a previous visit due to the range not being ready for use. Twice per week our maintenance crew mows out the grass on the range and we delay opening the tee until approximately 8:30am. On days without maintenance our range is open at 6:30am.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. Our golf course manager would like to follow up with you regarding your review. If you would like to speak to him, please contact him at 561-629-8800 or visit him at the course at your convenience.
Conditions were really good beginning of May.
Played on Sunday June 5th. Greens were rolling very good, (it helps if you know how to read grain). Fairways and bunkers in good condition. The tee boxes on the par threes looks like they got a lot of play this past winter though. Overall the course played great. Kudos to the superintendant and his staff for having it in good shape right now. Too bad that you will be aeriating soon because they seem to be really ideal right now. We played as a twosome in 3 hrs and 20 min. (Osprey/Heron). The starter was doing a grat jod that day. It was our best experience in a long time at Okeeheelee. Its such a fun track to play as long as you play from the correct tee box for you.
Thank you for the great review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the facility so much. We have been working hard to keep the facility in great shape and will pass along your kind words to our crew.
Please come visit us again soon.
Absolute Waste
Don't even bother with Okeeheelee. I have been playing this course for years and it keeps on getting worse. Greens are unpredictable and you can't even tell the difference between fairway and rough. Starters have no idea what is reality because they put everyone on the same course, backing everything up. The funny thing is there are three courses there. Starters and the people upstairs are rude and very inept. Rangers do nothing except sit in a cart and drive around. It seems like they do it for the free golf. I am very disappointed in what this course is coming to. I will take my wallet somewhere else, like Osprey Point. I have never played a course that is worse than Okeeheelee, and I've played Binks Forrest! To wrap it all up in a nutshell, DON'T GO THERE!
We are sorry to hear that you had a substandard golf experience during your round at Okeeheelee. We pride ourselves on the value Palm Beach County golf facilities provide to the area’s residents and guests. We would like to meet with you so that we can get some specific details about your negative experience, as we would like to take some corrective actions with your opinion in mind. Please contact our golf course manager, Mac Hood 561-829-8800, at your earliest convenience.
Thank you for your review of Okeeheelee Golf Course. We hope you will come see us again soon.
