About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
West Palm Beach Golf Course has hosted a variety of tournaments since opening in 1947, some that have included famous players such as Arnold Palmer. This historic course stands out from all of the area's public courses. Unlike Florida's many flat courses, West Palm Beach has an undulating terrain that provides interesting elevation changes. The course features elevated tees and greens and rarely is there a flat lie. The rolling hills are covered with native vegetation, palm trees, and mature pines and oaks. There is also no water to be found on the golf course, another rare occurrence in this area. In 2009, the course underwent a major renovation that made it environmentally friendly. There is also a full grass driving range and large practice area that overlook West Palm Beach Golf Course.

nice muni course
What a nice muni course with variation of hole designs, deep fairway bunkers, danger lurks off many fairways with sandy natural waste areas and palm plant waiting for errand shots. Greens raised on my holes and green in good shape. The fairways are still recovering from recent punching but no problem playing around this minor imperfection. We played on a busy Saturday and didn't wait too much on any hole just occasional par 3 delay.
An old classic
I have played here many times when down in the area over the last five years. I think the restoration was great. It's a really fun course to play. The slope of 122 is way too low for the back tees at 6700 yds. Whenever I play here there's a strong breeze and that always leads to a lot of time spent in the sandy waste areas. Condition is pretty typical muni conditioning. Greens are pretty good Bermuda greens. Fairways can be a little rough but are generally fine. The value here is good, and it's worth a stop.
Great shape
The course is in great shape, tee to green. Rolling greens & fairways made it fun, no water hazards. Shot my best score, will play again.
Soon to be a really nice course
Course club house is still under construction and the green were airated two weeks before I played, but I enjoyed the course. Fairways and the the lay out of holes was great. Very enjoyable round.
Challenging
For the value, it was good, the greens was very rough - due to being punch two weeks ago. The course is somewhat challenging...
Great course layout
This is truly a gem, most fairways are wide, but holes challenge even the best driver. Bunkers dot the course, in places you expect, but most are easy to escape from. Greens were recently punched and sanded, when I played, which was very problematic, but I'm sure in a few weeks, they will be beautiful.
SANDY
EVEN THOUGH THE $20 PRICE WAS RIGHT THE COURSE WASN'T. THE GREENS WERE VERY RECENTLY WORKED ON ALTHOUGH THIS WAS NOT NOTED ON GOLF NOW.COM WITH THE USUAL "A". THERE WERE NUMEROUS MOUNDS OF PLUGS FROM THE GREENS STREWN ABOUT THE COURSE AND THE GREENS WERE HEAVILY SANDED MAKING ANY CHANCE OF A DECENT SCORE IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO THE PUTTING SURFACE. THE CLUBHOUSE IS GONE!
Sand
There is sand everywhere better be able to hit a sand iron
sad case of neglect.
worst condition of any municpal course in palm beach county. it is obvious that the city commisioners do not care about this old jewel in theeir position. the commisioners should take a walk around other municpal courses, like palm beach gardens, osprey point, parke ridge. they ar letting selling point for the city o to pot.
Afternoon Storm
The course was in good condition & the greens rolled true. The issue we had was the afternoon thunder storm that appeared midway through the round. We did finish. Would play it again.
Golf course is not competitive
This golf course is not competitive in compare with other courses in the area.
Great Greens and Layout
Can't think of a better local muni that has better greens this time of year. They rolled true and relatively quickly.
For the rates we paid it was an excellent option.
What happened
I have played this course over the past 5 years a half dozen times. This is the second worst condition I can remember. It just looks like, they feel they do not want to spend any money maintaining the course. It appears as though the club house/pro shop was torn down so there is a double wide trailer in parking lot for what I assume is just temporary facilities while they build something new. I did not see any construction going on, so that would be an assumption. They may even be selling the place for all I know, that is why they do not want to spend any money. I will say, for the price I paid the greens were in good shape.
Greens are good
The course condition was rated as average because the fairways were in rough shape but didn't limit playability. Greens and bunkers were in very good condition and the layout was very good as all things were in view.
the course is friendly
Greens were good and fast. Generous fairways, phase was slow due to due to a couple of players who teed off from the tip whose length were appropriate for the white tees. Temporary 19th hole, not much to offer.
The course has changed dramatically since last time played.
The course has changed since I last played several months ago.
Course needs water fairway, greens It is like playing on hardpan. Lot of areas in fairways, around greens no grass at all looks like ground under repair.
The club house, restaurant is being torn down, no one can tell you it it will be rebuilt.
Historic old course
Played during dry season. Fairways were just aerified. Big course from back tee's 7k. No water for a Florida course, different. Windy. Glad they got rid of all the Australian pines. Some elevation change, nice.
Lots of sand
Nice layout. Good conditions, had just top dressed greens, but still rolled well. Lots of sand. If you're off the fairway, you're in a waste area. Played in a group of 3 on a Thursday at around 1030. Under 4 hours even with catching the group in front on #7.
The price is right
Played with two other friends and completed the round in under 3 hours. They have been doing summer aeration of fairways and greens. Not surprising for this time of year in Florida. A sad note...the entire clubhouse is being demolished due to it's condemnation some time ago. Not sure if it will be replaced.
AreVerify greens
Should've told us that they were era fine the greens also fairways punkers look like they just did not do them for a few days
You hit the nail right on the head with this posting Warren. I couldn't agree more with you.
Good players only worry about the greens. West Palm consistently has the best greens year round than other city clubs. Warren must not hit the greens.
