About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
West Palm Beach Golf Course has hosted a variety of tournaments since opening in 1947, some that have included famous players such as Arnold Palmer. This historic course stands out from all of the area's public courses. Unlike Florida's many flat courses, West Palm Beach has an undulating terrain that provides interesting elevation changes. The course features elevated tees and greens and rarely is there a flat lie. The rolling hills are covered with native vegetation, palm trees, and mature pines and oaks. There is also no water to be found on the golf course, another rare occurrence in this area. In 2009, the course underwent a major renovation that made it environmentally friendly. There is also a full grass driving range and large practice area that overlook West Palm Beach Golf Course.

Definitely a par course???
I've played the course before and now after the renovation. The trees gave it a great look, now it looks open wide and inviting. But the course continues to be deceiving. Step up to each tee box (blacks or blues) and the only thing that comes to mind, "definitely a par hole"! After you're in and out, the score card tells you something other than par for the course... Great course, for the price you get: great fairways, bunkers, and greens. Practice facility adds to the value! Will continue to play this course.
hills, no water
Great layout. Depending on tee selection,it can be as challenging as the "Champ" at the PGA.
When redesigned back in '09 they made a mistake by removing too many trees and creating extensive waste bunkers between fairways. It didn't work out well.
nice natural landscape with challenging bunkers
very enjoyable natural environment with no residences along course. well maintained and excellent draining.
Aerated greens
I would have appreciated if the course had posted the fact that they recently aerated the greens on golf now. This was most disappointing to realize this after I had arrived to play.
With so much rain the past two months, I would have expected to fairways and greens to be in much better shape.
West Palm Beach Golf club is super friendly, Great instructors, a real asset to the community with its kid friendly programs of instruction and great value for adult clinics as well.

average
Average golf course.Condition is not so bad.Price is a little bit high for this course,I suppose.
Great links style course
The course is now a great 'links style".
IMO, the 2009 renovation has made the course better!! Fairways, greens and bunkers are in great shape and maintained very nicely. The course has a more "wide open" feel because the tall pines are gone. Blue tees (6500) offer a moderate challenge...black tees (7000) a real challenge..particularly if windy.
Many have complained about the 2009 renovation...don't like the sugar sand waste bunkers. Well if you're a hacker, slicer or hooker, the sugar sand will eat your ball....after 3 years the waste bunkers now have scrub grass and bushes...so you'll lose the ball.
If you like links style and can hit the ball fairly straight, you'll enjoy the challenge.
Challenging approaches.
While not the most aesthitically pleasing, this is a great golf track!
Wide open fairways, but don't be fooled the challenge of West Palm lies in their approach shots with their greens well guarded by elevation and bunkers. Always a challenge.
Great deal
First time playing course this course - on vacation
Terrific Municipal Course
This is one of the best maintained municipal course that i have ever played. Their are not water hazards, but the number of bunkers and waste area, make the course more than challenging enough for most of us. The greens are very, very nice. Practice facilities are pretty good as well.
Good course for the money.
Like most SoFla courses this time of year greens were punched, but still playable.. Nice undulations in the fairways for variety. If you hit the waste bunkers here you would be in the woods or water on other courses, no big deal. However, on eye appeal the waste bunkers can give the impression of a course still in the development stages Unfortunately too many trees had to be removed and were not replaced.
Great municipal course!
If water hazards scare you, no worries, this course has none! But if you need to work on your bunker and sand wedge skills, this is the course for you! Great fairway and approach shots. We had a really great round and enjoyed the course. A hot dog and drink on the turn seemed a bit overpriced, but the price for the round was low, so can't complain too much. Worth the price of submission!
Great bargain
Always a good play
Need to stay out of those waste bunkers
Nice layout, well maintained
The course was in good shape, although they were punching some of the back nine fairways, also the greens showed that they had been worked on three weeks ago give it another week and they should be perfect. all and all nice track
A pleasant surprise
I've been driving past this course for a couple of years and wondering what it was like. I finally booked a tee time for my father and me and enjoyed a very nice round there.
On arrival, it was a little unclear where the pro shop was. Better signage would have helped here. Also, there was no cart person around to offer assistance or guidance and I found that a little irksome. Eventually (after five minutes) somebody showed up and helped us with our clubs. This didn't make a good first impression.
Things improved after a visit to the driving range and a chat with the starter, who was very helpful and friendly.
Out on the course, I discovered a waterless course whose only obstacles are scrub and sand, both in and out of bunkers. Sadly, I visited both more often than I would have like, but walked away with more balls than I started with.
The tee boxes and fairways were in nice condition, and the greens were true and fast. They were also extremely small and very hard to stay on unless distance was controlled very strictly.
I found the course to be very pretty, with a variety of holes and challenging situations. I was never bored or had that feeling of "Oh, here's another boring Par 4."
I plan on revisiting the course in the near future. Through Golf Now it was excellent value and I would like to give it another shot now I know more about the way the holes are laid out.
this course has a better potential than actualy used.
I played with my wife and our tee time was 3h16; the two men preceeding us were slow, taking beers all the time.
Muni Quality with super fast greens
Too bad they decided to put in sand dunes in between every fairway and not maintain them to save money. 50 yrs ago this place would have been great. Green speed was excellent
great with challenging holes and different approaches. Great fun
great course, fun and different each hole. Enjoyable
Love it every time!
The vastness of the course is stunning. Waste bunkers galore, a challenge for most.
Decent track with a decent challenge.... Fairways need some grass!
This is a course that we have played at least once or twice during every visit to Palm Beach over the last 20 years. A pretty good layout, location and pace of play if you can get one of the first tee-times in the early morning. It really slows down as the day goes on and the regulars sometimes jump out off of the 10th tee which can compound the problem. The course has taken a slight change for the worse after the unfortunate loss of hundreds of pine trees that really framed the holes and added character. Also seems to have lost a lot of top soil as most of the non-fairway areas are now a soft and under-maintained sugar-sand. Like most courses so far this season, the lies are tight and the grass is scarce. Bring a good sand game......or a beach chair, a cooler full of Coronas and some Coppertone.
Pacers44 here is a bit confused, or just plain wrong. The golf course did NOT unfortunately lose its trees, ...they were removed in the redesign. Nor did it lose any topsoil, the sugar sand was also added in the redesign. I just played there on 4/15 and the course was impeccable shape. No grass on the fairways? Whats this guy talking about?
