About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
West Palm Beach Golf Course has hosted a variety of tournaments since opening in 1947, some that have included famous players such as Arnold Palmer. This historic course stands out from all of the area's public courses. Unlike Florida's many flat courses, West Palm Beach has an undulating terrain that provides interesting elevation changes. The course features elevated tees and greens and rarely is there a flat lie. The rolling hills are covered with native vegetation, palm trees, and mature pines and oaks. There is also no water to be found on the golf course, another rare occurrence in this area. In 2009, the course underwent a major renovation that made it environmentally friendly. There is also a full grass driving range and large practice area that overlook West Palm Beach Golf Course.

Great
Interesting golf course, friendly staff, fairway need attention
Bad day all around.
The bag drop and getting carts were self service. After paying and going to the starter it got worse. Carts everywhere and no organization. The course has soft sand everywhere. It slows play to a halt with people looking for balls. No rangers on the course to keep pace of play going. Expect a 5 hour+ round.
Friendly set up.
Course pace was very slow on Friday the 15Th, total 5 hrs.
The 3 group back up on the long difficult Par 3 7Th was the culprit.
No water comes into play at all, but waste bunkers between many holes causes problems for shots due to thick sand and foot prints etc.
Fairways are wide in most cases, and ball runs forever due to dry conditions.
Greens are good.
4 PLAYED
LOTS OF SAND. LOOK AT AN ARIAL VIEW OF THE COURSE ON A POSTCARD...........WOW. LOTS OF RAIN
Lots of sand!
They seemed a little unorganized. 3 groups on the tee to start is too many. Started over 1/2 hour later than scheduled. Fun course to play and lots of sand. Some rough and hard fairways. Would not pay full price to play here.
Handy location to I-95.
Have played course many times. Some par-4's are way to long for average player. Fairways are in need of attention. Course going downhill.
a good experience
For two 70+ players, this municipal course offered multiple tee's to match your handy cap. Course was in good condition, green's very good, fast. Traps with good sand were fair. Our mid-week, 7:45AM tee time, allowed for a twosome to play in a little over 3 hours. Essentially, a good deal in an otherwise expensive Fla. winter enviornment.
This was a great game.
A lot of sand trapp but a great course. Fun to play & challenging.
Good price, poor maintenance
Starting with the "bag guy" who watched me unload the two bags out of the trunk and onto the cart, and the starter who put us with this couple, but then brought out a single and moved us back after we all hit and had made intros, this was muni government at work at its best. Why do we play a course with barren fairways and all facilities needing a good cleaning and overhaul? Because it is one of the few courses you can walk. Yes we are walkers and it is difficult to find a place in S Florida you can walk the course. The course is also wide open with no water, just lots of sand. I can hit a ball out of the sand, but not the water. A good walk and if you don't take the game too seriously, a fun course.
Not a bad course
Fairways and greens were in nice shape. Staff is among the best in South Florida among public courses. Pace of play was acceptable. Overall it was an enjoyable round, including the couple from PA that we were paired with.
I do hate the sand between the holes. Unlike most courses where these waste areas are firm and playable, they filled in these areas with soft beach sand, making them virtually unplayable. They are also quite ugly with weeds and such growing randomly all over. Don't drive your carts into them or they will get stuck. better yet keep your ball out of them. If they would correct these areas the course would be much more enjoyable and would be one of the areas best - even though the course has no water hazards.
I would not pay rack rate for this course but at a discounted rate you could do much worse.
Very challenging course
This is an excellent and challenging course. The greens were in very good condition as were the tee boxes. You must hit the ball straight off the tee on this course or big numbers could show up on the scorecard. Sandy waste areas guard each fairway and it makes it very hard to get good contact when you are in one of these areas. This is one of my favorite courses in the West Palm Beach area and is a steal for the price if booked through Golfnow.
Wonderful layout, challenging course and consistent conditions.
Always enjoy playing West Palm Beach. The only improvement needed that I usually notice is the pace of play. This can be very challenging during the season as expected, but maybe encouraging players to use a yellow ball on this course because the surrounding very white sand makes it difficult to find when astray from the fairway. Also encouraging players to play ready golf, and be ready to hit your ball as soon as the first player has made their swing. Pace of play starts with the players but there were no rangers on the course on a Sunday when I played.
Slow play
Went off 30 minutes late and there was a 4 group back up at 7 tee.
Due to slow play or overbooking ??
Great place to play during summer and rainy season, course dries out quickly .
Course has a poor feature
Extreme amount of sand on the course. Not all in bunkers. According to starter it is to be played as a bunker. There are no rakes in these areas and it is not maintained. Therefor making it impossible to play these areas if you land in a footprint or a tire track.
The Greens were in great shape
Fairways were kinda spotty, meaning there was what looked like weeds growing on them ..overall for the price i got on Golf Now .com was a great deal.... But where was the beer girl ????
Swing all out on a FANTASTIC full sized course
WPBCC is the best local course for a long hitter.
So many local courses are driver then 8i or less into the pin.
The course condition is excellent, since the renovation and growing in
WPBCC used to be a PGA tour course on the southern swing. The course has good length, were you will have mid, long iron shots into greens...as well as hybrid, fairway wood shots. The par 5's are long!.
Expect to use all the clubs in the bag!
The greens are excellent and the fairways are generous width & undulating with strategic placed bunkers.
Right off i95 / Forest hill Blvd - a easy drive there
After the round relax on the patio with full views of the course.
If you are unsure were to play...WPBCC is 'guaranteed' great day!
Sandy Way
I have played this course several times. There is no water. The fairways are lined by sand. The fairways are very wide, and i aviod the sand. However, the greens are protected by traps.
I enjoy the challenge.
