Links of Lake Bernadette

About
The Links of Lake Bernadette enjoys verdant landscaping and a rolling terrain that are perfectly complemented by mature and towering pines. At 6,400 yards, the golf course is seemingly short but it feels like it plays much longer due to frequent doglegs that can be found throughout. Six of the par 4s play over 400 yards and a few par 3s measure over 200 yards, which also helps the course feel longer. Water hazards and bunkers come into play but they are balanced by large greens and wide fairways that make for easier approaches. Although beginners won't feel out of place and there are four different sets of tees, the golf course boasts several tricky holes that will challenge even the best players. One of these, the 163-yard 13th, was once called the best par 3 in Tampa Bay.

Horrible
Course condition was appalling. Very wet, muddy and almost no grass to speak of. Kids riding scooters around the back nine and a foursome behind us that had 2 non-playing young ladies that kept driving through our play with a speaker blasting music, to go get more drinks at the club house. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME.
Horrible Condition
This course was in horrible condition, from start to finish. Grass, of any kind was hard to find, and the mud under the afore mentioned grass was very heavy and clay like. I played this course years ago, and although it was not great then, their current web page said they were under new management since 2022 and that things had improved greatly. If what I saw yesterday is considered improvement, I would be shocked to see what it looked like previous to the said improvements. As an added bonus, pace of play was extremely slow due to the group ahead of us spending an inordinate amount of time looking for their balls in the hazards. The group behind us had a twosome of young men playing and a twosome of young girls, not playing, but drinking, playing music loudly and making frequent drink runs to the club house past us. All in all, you could not get me back to this course again, ever!
Mixed Experience
I’ve played Lake Bernadette several times and this experience was different than I ever had before. Historically, they have had so so course conditions, but a friendly staff and great pace of play. This time was the opposite.
The course was in the best shape I’ve seen it. Tees boxes were level, fairways were even with good grass, rough was a reasonable length, and the greens were smooth and rolled at a good pace.
Unfortunately, the course changed our tee time with no notice. When we checked in for our 2:15 tee time, the rather rude woman at the desk informed us that we were at 2:22. When I showed her the confirmation email that said 2:15, she was quick to shut me down and said 2:22. At this point I thought no big deal, it’s one spot later. Unfortunately, the people they put at 2:15 were the slowest group of golfers I have ever seen and they never let us play through and there was no ranger to help pace of play. When the group in front of us finally gave up at hole 13 (after taking over 20 minutes on a par 3), we were already 4 hours into the round leaving us in near darkness to try and finish past sunset.
First impression
I’ve read some rough feedback on the course and that’s why I never tried it. I got a good deal so took a chance and was impressed. Under 40$ in winter and the course really wasn’t too bad. Greens were ok, a little slow for winter conditions but there was grass on them and weren’t too bumpy.
Will definitely come back in winter to play again
Again, the tee boxes and greens need. They are still the same as they were three years ago. Players handicaps are reduce due to these conditions. Must be new owners that are reluctant to repair. The owners need to hire golf course landscapers to prevent these problems. Hope the owners are reading these reviews.
Snow Bird season
The course has seen some serious wear due to high traffic. With this comes a lack of golf etiquette. Bad pitch marks, shoes scuff marks on the greens. This is the reason for the 3 stars
Greens are improving
Got caught behind very slow people. Course conditions were close to normal for here. The greens were as little faster but inconsistent. But not bad for the money.
Good
Course was good for not having a Rain in awhile. Greens responded good. The amidities aren’t real good. All in ok.
Nice layout
Room to miss
Greens rolled true but hard to read
Very pleasant staff
Will definitely be back
Much better!
I haven't played LB in over a year. The greens were redone, but had been overgrown and extremely slow for the longest time. They finally have mowed and rolled them down to a respectable speed. I've always liked the layout of this course and missed playing it. We tried it recently to see if the course has improved, and it has. It's fun again. Great value for the $$$. Will be back soon.
