Rating 69.5

Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2019. The land will be used for residential development.

Just 7 miles west of downtown Riverside, Paradise Knolls Golf Club tee times will open the door to an 18-hole, par 72, course that plays 6,281 yards from the back tees, and has a slope rating of 117. Designed by Bill Wood, and opened in 1964, the course uses a combination of tree-lined fairways and greenside bunkers to create a fun, and challenging day of golf. The signature hole at Paradise Knolls is the par 3, 12th hole, which plays 230 yards from the tips, and has a green, which slopes front to back, and left to right. There is also one small lake on the course, which sits greenside of the short par 4, 5th hole. The hole plays 275 yards from the back tees, enticing players to try to drive the green, which does have a small opening between the water and a front left bunker.

Many players have made good use of their Riverside golf deals at Paradise Knolls and in addition to the great golf enjoyed their instructional programs, run by PGA Professional staff, the large practice putting green, and their 2,500 sq. ft. clubhouse, which can accommodate up to 150 guests for banquets, tournaments, and weddings. Comments from others following their Riverside tee times paints a nice picture of their experiences at Paradise Knolls Golf Club, finding the course fun and enjoyable.

Fun! (Slow paced)

Fun, long, intermediate, I would go again. If you are a fast paced player don’t come here expecting to tee off right away. Grab some drinks before your tee time that way you can enjoy the day while you’re waiting to tee.

Fun round

I have played this course many times, this time I thought the course was in the best shape I have ever seen it. All that rain has the grass looking nice and green. Tee boxes were hit and miss but fairways/greens were in great shape. Also I don’t remember the greens being so challenging but they were mostly because they are small in diameter. That made it challenging to get your ball to stay on but also fun because you had to be spot on with your approach. I’m probably going back here real soon, you can’t beat the price and the quality plus you get a free burrito with your round. What more could you ask for nothing like a breakfast burrito and an ultra to start you morning!!!!

Overbooked and tortoise pace

The pace was the worst I’ve seen so far on any course. The Marshall wouldn’t even observe pace, did not even go on the course. Groups of 5 and more one after the other. We waited on average 10 min on every hole for the groups in front. Then we asked to play through on walkers and they denied. Groups were hitting off blues and didn’t clear 200. Would not wave on when hitting par 3. Etiquette is ridiculous, this is why younger generations can’t stand seniors. They hold everyone up. Plus, they chit chat constantly with people waiting behind them.

GOOD SHAPE

Every hole was in good shape especially the greens.

The tee boxes need some work though.

Slow play

There was a group of 5 in front of a couple before us 4. We had to wait on every shot because of the slow play of the group of 5. There were at least three holes completely open by the time we reached the 5th hole. Finally after the front nine, we skipped the holes 10 & 11 and moved on.

Great value...fair course.

18 holes with cart for $16.99 is a great deal. No driving range to warm up but there is a putting green to practice. Pro shop is well stocked and carts are clean.

Lots of long holes for driving. Got stuck behind a group of five which slowed play for us. Greens are in okay shape with quite a few unrepaired pitch marks.

Slow, Slow, Slow

It's been about 6 months since I've played this course and I found the results the same. They over book big time. We had to wait on every shot. It took us about 3 hours to play the front 9.

Never again. They just are interested in making money and I don't blame them for wanting to be profitable, but al they did was tick off a lot of players who might be back if it was worth it. But not my foursome ever again. Try Jurupa Hills or Indian Hills just down the street. A little more, but more challenging and a lot better course and pace of play.

Horrendous tee boxes

The tee boxes are the worst I’ve seen. Ground is very uneven, several old divots, dead grass, tree trimmings and leaves all over fairways. Greens have a lot of old divots and some holes are not placed properly in the ground.

The only good tee placement spots are on an incline or decline or next to the tee color rocks or standing in a divot.

Nice back 9 at Paradise

played the back nine early today after a rain out Saturday - course was in good shape - the greens were really nice, as were the bunkers, the tee boxes pretty good and the fairways a little spotty but no worries if you're OK with moving the ball a little in the fairway to find some grass.

Back nine pace of play was good with twosomes and singles moving along at a solid pace - Off the course in plenty of time for 10AM kickoff - Good value!!

very good back nine experience - I'll be back!

Worth the Fee

As we battle course closings and water shortages it is nice to play a course with at least some good lies in the fairways....greens were healing from punch and sand. Course was doing some fine business for a Thursday....always have to be aware of groups in adjoining fairways one guy hit hard on number 17 today and our group had three balls hit into us from other fairways during the round....

Could be course if they had professional people and real maintenance crew.

When I first got there the clubhouse was unmanned. Then when I went to find the starter, he was putting on the practice green and said go inside and get a number?? Then the cart I had was in poor shape. Course has a great layout and offers some challenging holes but it’s not well maintained. They didn’t even tell us the greens were punched. Pace of play was over 5 hours for our threesome. You’ll hear “Fore” every 5 minutes as there will be many duffers at this price. So pros- free lunch or breakfast, some great holes. Cheap. Cons - weak staff, poor maintained course and equipment and pace of play.

Its a "low-budget" course and you get just that.

Our threesome came to play late in the evening. And it was fairly open.

Only got to play the front 9 plus some holes on the back.

The course is okay. Nothing to write home about. Just be careful on holes 4 and 5 as they cut the bamboo down and you can smell the nasty cow farm just west of them. Flies everywhere on that portion of the track and the smell is awful.

I only recommend this course to give you a quick play for an OK price.

You will be met with the types of golfers that flood the "low-budget" courses and that type of demographic do not really adhere to common golf courtesy, if you know what i mean.

If you were looking for a great experience, you will not find the lush fairways or perfectly treated greens. They are riddled with divots by the end of the day, but i enjoy this place as it gives me a chance to practice in tough conditions.

If you're looking for a "WOW" experience, i recommend Goose Creek located not too far from this track. A bit pricier, but it is a fantastic course to play.

I do keep coming back to paradise knolls because it is a bit nostalgic for me. Scored a Double Eagle on hole 17, so this place will hold a small piece of my heart.

Worst Course Ever

After reading the reviews, my buddy and I decided to play this value course. We knew it would be a little older, but it was $19, so our expectations were not very high. Man, was this place a joke! The layout was fine and the people were nice. Everything else was total garbage. Here are some of the things we experienced:

—we were overcharged. I had to ask for money back after showing my Tee Off confirmation

—golf cart ignition stopped working 3 or 4 times

—golf cart shocks/springs were non existent. My tailbone is still sore

—sprinklers in the fairways were going full blast in the middle of the day

—holes on the far west side are adjacent to a farm. It was the most putrid smell from livestock and/or manure. Flies were everywhere and the goat sounds were delightful in a backswing.

—greens were atrocious. Not just brown spots...full on mud in some areas

—One of the tee boxes was 15% pure black from a recent fire. Not kidding.

—although there were supposed to be no water holes, my buddy had to hit out of a pond that was meant to be a bunker.

—garbage bin was overflowing at the cart return

—real life hillbillies were golfing behind us. I kid not. One guy was golfing in a cut off sleeveless shirt. I think his name might have been Jasper, but I didn’t ask.

I know this sounds like I am exaggerating, but I’m not. I might play the back nine if it was free. But I wouldn’t play the front nine, with the horrible smell and the flies if they paid me. It was disgusting.
