Plan Your Drives Carefully
You need to plan your drives carefully on this course. There are several blind shots. I found I did not need a driver the entire round. A 3-metal worked fine. Unfortunately there are no hole diagrams on the scorecard or at each tee. However, you can purchase a yardage guide in the pro shop.
We enjoyed our round at the Santa Clara Golf Course. The fairways did have some bare spots on them. The greens were fast and in good shape. The bunkers were in good shape with plenty of sand.
There is plenty of drinking water on the course good for those hot Santa Clara summers.
A little Pricey for Conditions
Great layout, forgiving and challenging. However the fairways are torn up and they seem to be letting it go because of the new stadium and impending parking lot usage. $50 with cart for a course with considerable dirt patches throughout the fairways is a little much.
Don't ride along
I am a blogger and a wife of a newly turned professional player. As my blog subject this week I have been encouraging my husband by waking up and going with him to practice every morning (7 days only). Today I was charged 24$ to ride along in the cart that was included in the price. Taking a 9 hole round from 23$ to 44$ just because I was a "spectator". Probably won't choose this course again. I could spend 23$ to sit at a good movie - more expensive than IMAX!
Whole I am not a player, this behavior and attitude toward spouses of players at 5am on a Tuesday when they offer 150$ 20 round cards - is appalling.
pace of play, OUT OF CONTROL
course was over booked. very slow play. averge of 8 minutes between each shot. no marshall. golfers driving all over course cutting in front of other golfers
Conditions worsening!
I have played this course for a very long time
and used to love this course...too bad Levi Stadium renovations, lack of maintenance, poor marshaling for tournament play....pace of play was over 6 hours with 3-4 groups on par 3 holes...ridiculous...very disappointing. Would not recommend this course anymore.
Great greens
Fun track to play. Not particularly long or difficult as long as you avoid the numerous fairway and green side bunkers. Excellent greens with varied shapes and contours. Took over five hours to play but was told it was normally not this way.
An ok experience
The fairways were in poor condition, when you hit the ball in the center of the fairway, the next shot would be off hard dirt most of the time. The greens were in descent condition. It was hot, no drink cart went around the course. They did have a few water coolers through out. The pace of play was very slow, lots of waiting on each tee box. Didn't see any marshals to try to help the pace
pretty well kept for muni
I came as single on Monday hoping to get paired up with local, as this was my first time playing here. one gentleman in the pro shop was very nice. I played the first nine alone. (rare) two locals caught up with me. a couple older guys playing speed golf. missed playing single. the course is basically flat with a couple holes elevated to make it more interesting. a lot of fairway bunkers to make you think. new 49ers stadium will eventually make sundays during football season unthinkable as course is directly across the street from stadium. I will play here again soon while still fresh in my mind.
Worst I've played in awhile
Relative came into town and brought his clubs. Asked if we can get an early Sunday morning round in. Don't mind paying the high green fees but this course is ridiculous. The only thing going for it was the entrance. The course is in terrible condition. Hard pan throughout the course and I'm talking about the fairways. I thought you were suppose to be rewarded when you hit the ball on the fairway but there was more grass in the rough than the fairways.
Lots of blind shots with no course layout on the score cards or the yardage board on the tee box.
An ok course with a horrible pace of play
While course itself is a ok for a MUNI - the pace of play is just HORRIBLE here. We started waiting once we reached 3rd hole and in most of the holes we had two groups waiting to tee off, one in the middle and one on the green. The most pathetic aspect is that the rangers were actually driving around and didn't care one way or the other to prod people along to improve pace of play. I paid around 50 dollars for a weekend round after 12 pm and I felt like it was not worth the money given the slowness. The greens were ok and the course itself was alright..
Levi Stadium
Haven't played here in a few years. It has changed a little. Nice views of Levi Stadium across the street. I still like the layout.
Good course for beginner
Got to the course 5 minutes to my schedule t-time due to the traffic affected by the construction of the Levi stadium. I rushed to the pro shop to pay, the clerk gave me the attitude said sarcastic remark "just in time". His facial expression was not happy and unfriendly. During our play, we hardly see Marshall around to manage the course. The group ahead of us were extremely slow and no one there to let them know to keep up the pace.
Good value but slow pace of play
Good condition for a public course with actual sand in the bunkers. For some reason the course was backed up on several holes, perhaps a marshal in the right places and encouraging faster play may have helped. Can't complain too much as it is hard to beat a <$20 mid afternoon green fee with cart .
a good public course
played there many times, near by, greens are ok, not too fast, not too slow. a couple of par 5s, with wind some can reach with two.
Good course but slow players.
I wish the score card provided the layout of the fairways given that most of the fairways are doglegs.

Not bad for a muni
It's been a couple of years since I played SC. Not a whole lot has changed.
The good: Driving range balls were somewhat new. The pace of play was pretty good for a Saturday.
The bad: They allow smoking at the practice facility. A good portion of the range tee area is covered so the smoke smell was prevalent.
The bunkers are compacted and like hitting off of hard pan.
Good course but backed up
For a 3 o'clock tee time I did not expect to have to be waiting at almost every hole. They book way to many close tee times for afternoon that are walkers. They should have people ride in the afternoon to keep the pace moving. This is pretty hilly course so walkers tend to be much slower. Fortunately people began dropping off near hole 13 or we would have had no chance to finish our round.
Overall the course was in good condition and offered a good challenge. I would play here again and the value it probably one of the best in the bay
Fun round
The course was in good shape. The pace was great and the weather was awsome.
