Buenaventura Golf Course
About
Buenaventura Golf Course originally opened in 1932 as a nine-hole course but closed in 2004 for major renovations. The course's original designer, William Bell, was consulted for the redesign. It was transformed into a more challenging course, but the 1930s design features were carefully preserved. The parkland layout may seem short at just over 6,000 yards but like many of the courses from that era, length is not as important as strategy and course management. The strategically placed bunkers have classic shapes that blend seamlessly into the natural environment as though they were carved by the river. The bunkers combined with the fast, sloping greens make the golf course a shot-maker's paradise. One of Buenaventura's most memorable holes is the par-4 13th. It is one of Bell's original designs, an interesting risk-reward opportunity with water along the right.

Hometown Favoite
A very nice layout with a simple track. Generous fairways and no long rough. Nice sandtraps and just enough water to make you think every now and then. Consistent greens with unough undulation to keep you honest. Oh, and my first hole in one on #11!
We played on a Sunday afternoon
Since I am a casual golfer I'm not an expert but I rarely play on weekends due to slow play. Once we got ahead of the slow pokes in front of us (no Marshall on duty) our game steadily improved . As for the course it was exciting with the rolling greens and deep bunkers, kept the challenge of focus and curiosity on each hole. Yes this was my first time at this golf course. Will be playing more often. Staff was very professional and gave us a warm welcome
great overall conditions.
It's a shot makers course. Well maintained from tee to green. Good value for the money. Great pace of play.
Course is excellent
Course is in excellent shape, it's better than I've seen it in a long time. I'll definitely be playing here more often now.
My Favorite Course In Ventura
I play here whenever I can. I love the course, set up, length, price, and overall it's just a great place to play. Can't beat the weather either. I have met countless nice people playing here and the staff is great. If you're an average player (20 handicap) then this course is a great mix of challenging and fun.
Great condition short friendly Muni with cool summer breezes.
Not a difficult layout but afternoon winds add a challenge.
No driving range
The weather was great, and the golf course is nice. The green roll true, and challenging. Everything was good, except they have no driving range, and the staff was aloof.
enjoyed playing this course.
course is in good shape, greens rolled true but a little slow. great place to escape the heat.
Wll maintained with excellent greens.
Relatively short course. With a good drive just a mid to short iron in. Well trapped guarding the greens and with decent sand. Water comes into play on some holes.
Beautiful relaxing, and fun
Great course, great staff. The bunkers were so nice, i "decided" to spend a lot of time there. The only gripe i would have is the $13 you have to pay for a cart if your deal doesn't come with one.
Try the breakfast burrito on the turn, delicious!
good value
this course is guarded by the greens.. very few flat straight putts..
lots of fun.
Very nice course and great value.
Course was well maintained and play was at a fast pace. Layout was nice and greens had nice slopes on many holes. Will come back when in the area.
Nice, open course
This was the only course I've played in Ventura or Santa Barbara, but I was satisfied. There is a very nice seabreeze, so a light jacket might be needed towards the end of a twilight round. The course is pretty open, the fairways are wide, and outside of the water (which is in play for 4-5 holes), there aren't a lot of places to lose your ball, which is nice. It's also shorter than average, with a couple short par 5s and reachable par 4s, and short par 3s (all of which made a bit more difficult by the location of the sand traps).
Good muni course. Quick!
Not a bad track. The lady at the counter was somewhat helpful but a little dismissive (As expected from govt employee...)
The course was maintained very well and played nice. Very few if any blemishes. Greens were well maintained and very slow.
My cart was very fast and felt like a race car, enjoyed that. Overall very positive experience, short but challenging. I will play again when I have the chance.
Course in very good condition.
The fairways and the greens are in very good shape. They need help with the bunkers. They have a lot of sand around the outer part but not much in the center.
The course was in excellent condition. Pace of play was good. I will recommend this course to anyone. Several tees to choose from based on driver.
Loved the course. Excellent shape. Bring your own gps though. Lots of tees to choose from based on driver distance. My wife played with me and said the course was very female friendly with proper tee setup. Yes we would definitely go back.
Nice and cool near the beach
If you're looking for a nice cool place to play on hot summer days, you would be wise to head to Buenaventura Golf Course. We had a nice onshore breeze and the course was in good shape. It played slow because of the holiday weekend, but we had a very enjoyable experience. We'll be going back. It's not a long course, but it has some challenging holes.
Short par 70 course
I liked the course a lot, it was in tremendous condition! It is quite short though and on many of the par 4's you lay up with a hybrid or long iron and leave the driver in the bag. It is a great course for practicing the long irons off the tee, but for those who like to grip it and rip it with your driver, you may want to go elsewhere. The grees were deceptively quick, but they rolled true.
Very nicely kept course
We played to 87 degree weather when all surrounding areas were over 100 degrees. Nice ocean breeze.
Nice green fairways, lots of bunkers protecting beautiful undulating greens.
Prices better after 12:30pm.
1st tee announcement is a nice touch.
Overall very enjoyable.
Good value
Great short course. (par 70) Greens are in good shape & fairways better than I've seen since course remodel. Friendly staff & good value.
