Buenaventura Golf Course
About
Buenaventura Golf Course originally opened in 1932 as a nine-hole course but closed in 2004 for major renovations. The course's original designer, William Bell, was consulted for the redesign. It was transformed into a more challenging course, but the 1930s design features were carefully preserved. The parkland layout may seem short at just over 6,000 yards but like many of the courses from that era, length is not as important as strategy and course management. The strategically placed bunkers have classic shapes that blend seamlessly into the natural environment as though they were carved by the river. The bunkers combined with the fast, sloping greens make the golf course a shot-maker's paradise. One of Buenaventura's most memorable holes is the par-4 13th. It is one of Bell's original designs, an interesting risk-reward opportunity with water along the right.

Nice and cool near the beach
If you're looking for a nice cool place to play on hot summer days, you would be wise to head to Buenaventura Golf Course. We had a nice onshore breeze and the course was in good shape. It played slow because of the holiday weekend, but we had a very enjoyable experience. We'll be going back. It's not a long course, but it has some challenging holes.
Short par 70 course
I liked the course a lot, it was in tremendous condition! It is quite short though and on many of the par 4's you lay up with a hybrid or long iron and leave the driver in the bag. It is a great course for practicing the long irons off the tee, but for those who like to grip it and rip it with your driver, you may want to go elsewhere. The grees were deceptively quick, but they rolled true.
Very nicely kept course
We played to 87 degree weather when all surrounding areas were over 100 degrees. Nice ocean breeze.
Nice green fairways, lots of bunkers protecting beautiful undulating greens.
Prices better after 12:30pm.
1st tee announcement is a nice touch.
Overall very enjoyable.
Good value
Great short course. (par 70) Greens are in good shape & fairways better than I've seen since course remodel. Friendly staff & good value.
good course-good price
Played here numerous times, it is in the best shape I've seen. kudos to the greenskeepers and staff...
Fun, attractive course.
The course is moderate in length. If you hit good shots, you will have chances to make par. Course is in fine condition. Most fairways are reasonably wide with few obstacles. Water and trees come into play on a few holes. Greens can be challenging as some of them have saddle shapes.
great little layout, plays much longer than the yardage
the course was in beautiful shape as always, greens were perfect, conditions were perfect. a delight to play.
This course is fun to play
The course is short so play the tees that fit your game. Tough greens with lots of bunkers around them. The sand is in good shape and the fairways are getting better each time I play here. The course needs a range but short of that they could spend a few bucks and update their nets and mats to warm up on at the rear of the pro shop. I know Olivas links, about 1 mile away has a great range but who wants to warm up one place and drive to another course to play. The City Of Ventura needs to spend some money on its golf courses (Olivas needs permanent pro shop, restaurant, bathrooms and Buenaventura needs a range or at least better warm up facility) these courses have tins of play and the city needs to spend the bucks to keep them up.
Great course for the price!
I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the fairways and greens were the first time that I played Buenaventura. For what I paid I found this course to be an excellent value. The pace on Saturday mid day was great, we rarely had to wait on the group ahead of us. The fairways were well maintained and nicely defined. The greens rolled smooth and are well designed. The bunkers are well maintained and have good sand, unlike a lot of valley and L.A. courses that have that terrible compacted sand/dirt mix that seems impossible to get out of sometimes.
My one complaint is the lack of a driving range. Luckily Olivas Links is just down the road and they have a great range where you can hit off of grass.
Buenaventura is a great course. I drove down from L.A. to play there and it was well worth the drive. I look forward t playing there again soon.
This is short course but always challenging
This is a fun course that leaves you thinking you could score it better!!! ....yet what the yardage gives you, the greens make up for the challenge with some great undulation. Nice beach like weather while inland had a heat wave too!
Incredible value and escape the heat!
74 degrees and only about 40 minute drive from my home in Simi Valley where it hit 100 degrees!
Course was in excellent shape, nearly flawless and a little bit fast greens made putting a blast. Fairways were also excellent, and it is really nice to hit out of bunkers that contain dry sand unlike some local courses that I think use old concrete.
course is too expensive for its size and fairway condition if not for golfnow discounts
some greens a little bumpy. conditions much better than San Fernando Valley though. Green fairways, quicker greens, nicer environment. Short course even from blacks but par 5's and some long par 4s make up for shorter length on other holes. Play was quick for Saturday morning at 3 1/2 hrs. No pressure from behind. Fine conditions overall.
very nice course
play here many times. keeps getting better. only a small portion of the fairways need work.
greens are always challenging and interesting.
they need to upgrade the menu in the bar. how about a real restaurant.
Fun course, only downfall is they dont have a range.
Fun course, only downfall is they dont have a range.
Okay Course
The course is decently maintained and the staff are fine. The pace of play is a little chaotic because there were groups jumping back on the course and people walking too so it was a little choppy.
fun greens
fairways poorly maintained-divots everywhere
31 dollars is all its worth not the regular rate of 64 on the weekend
river ridge for 64 around the corner better value for the same price
Nice course!!!
Played Buenaventura for the first time in about 2 years. Course was in very good condition. Will definitely play again soon.
Very short, some nice holes.
A short course which at the full rate would definitely not be worth the money. Fun at the Golf Now rate and worth an afternoon.
Nice Wide Fairways.
Nice place to spend a the morning or afternoon. Mud Hen droppings
on a few of the greens. No Driving Range. There is a range down the street a few miles if you need the warm up.
