Olivas Links Golf Course
About
Situated along the Ventura Harbor overlooking the Santa Clara River, Olivas Links (formerly known as Olivas Park Golf Course) enjoys coastal breezes that make it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, providing perfect conditions for golf year-round. The golf course has a links-style layout that closely follows the natural swales and curves of the landscape and separated by bands of fescue and wild grasses. The course is mostly open but there are some large pine trees scattered throughout. Its seaside location subjects the golf course to strong winds, especially on the front nine. The challenging layout offers multi-tiered greens and contoured mounding along the fairways. There are also deep bunkers strategically placed throughout Olivas Links, but the openness of the course places a stronger emphasis on hitting the right spot on the fairway or getting the correct angle of approach to the green rather than avoiding the bunkers.

This course is well maintained
Well maintained course. Clean tee boxes and fairways. Greens played nice too. Tons of rabbits and squirrels keep you company. Groups ahead of us moved really slow, round took over 4.5 hours. Course could easily be played in 3.5. Fun day overall though.
Fun Course. Will play again
A little slow with a morning senior tournament before we went off. As usual for this time of year the wind picks up in the afternoon 15 - 20 mph and makes it much more challenging.
April 2017
I was a little disappointed arriving for the first time to see a small pro shop and limited concession stand, however the employees and course make up for these shortcomings. Playing in the afternoon at this course plays different then in the mornings due to the wind. The uniqueness of this course has to be the adirondack chairs place by certain tee boxes facing beautiful vistas and landmarks. The course is well maintained and I will come back and play it again next time I'm in the area.
Too slow this day
I really like Olivas Links and am going to make it my go to course in the future. The course is in good shape and the greens are firm, but not so hard that they're too difficult for an average player. I must say though on this particular day, the pace of play was too slow. I noticed that there seemed to be quite a few threesome groups, as opposed to foursomes and was wondering if that could have something to do with it. I had to quit early at the 16th hole, because of an event I needed to get to. It took 4 1/2 hours to finish 16.
Olivas Links
Played the Blacks (6806/73.0/130) with kviser in clear, breezy conditions in the 70's. The POP was excellent, 3.5H. We really moved after initially playing behind a 5some for 5-6 holes once they let us play through on #10. The tees were lush, nicely maintained with few unfixed divots. The fairways were lush and firm. Any few poor areas were clearly marked as GUR. The rough can be quite punitive here. Around the fairway is mostly lush and pretty consistent. However, get barely off the primary rough and you could have weeds, hardpan or waist deep lost ball rough. The traps are almost always well maintained with good quality sand here, nice to play from. The greens were firm, smooth and putted medium fast speed. They held well struck irons well. If you have never played here, you may be very unimpressed initially. The pro shop is a trailer and there is minimal food available onsite. No GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. However, Olivas has excellent golf facilities. Grass driving range complete with an excellent chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. Large putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. Great course to walk, flat and no tees are a huge distance from the last green. The wind is usually calm in the morning and a 1-2+ club wind in the afternoon with the ocean closeby. The customer service is always excellent @ Olivas. Definitely recommended.
Always a great day @ Olivas!
Played the Blues (6530/71.6/127) with Joo, Mike and Danny in overcast, breezy conditions in the 70's. We played three different sets of tees and moved well, this was a good group to play with. I got a replay special for $20 with a cart after playing Buena in the morning. They had me on the first tee approximately 25 minutes after I putted out on #18 @ Buena a couple of miles down the road. POP was okay for a Saturday afternoon, 4.5H. Excellent course to walk, very flat. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. No frills pro shop is in a trailer, minimal food available onsite. No GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. However, I am play here more than any other course in So Cal because this is an above average layout almost always in above average condition @ good prices. Excellent grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. The tees were lush, nicely maintained. Very few unfixed divots anywhere. The fairways were fairly lush and firm. Good (but not great) with a few poor areas that were clearly marked as GUR. The rough around the fairway is mostly lush. Farther off the fairway could be hardpan with patches of rough that is now waist deep or anything in between. The traps were well maintained and have good quality sand, nice to play from. The greens were firm, smooth and putted medium speed. The customer service is always good here. Definitely recommended.
Olivas Links
Played the Blues (6530/71.6/127) with GKers Steve and Tony in clear, breezy conditions in the 70's. Tony & I played our GK Cup match. I got a special $29 rate with a cart for currently being a underpaid teacher, nice touch Olivas! POP was okay for a Sunday afternoon, slightly over 4.5H. We rarely pushed the group in front of us and the group behind rarely pushed us. The tees were lush, nicely maintained. Very few unfixed divots anywhere. The fairways were firm and fairly lush. The few poor areas that were clearly marked as GUR. The rough around the fairway is mostly lush. Farther off the fairway could be hardpan with patches of rough that is now waist deep or anything in between. As our group experienced numerous times, the rough can be quite punitive here. A foot apart can mean swing and advance the ball a great deal, swing and lucky to advance the ball a short distance or forget it, your ball is gone! The traps were well maintained and have good quality sand, nice to play from. The greens were firm, smooth and putted medium fast speed. they held well struck irons with a little run out. If you are coming to Olivas just for the golf, everything is above average to excellent. Excellent layout to walk, very flat. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. Excellent grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. The customer service is always good to excellent here. Some of the amenities are lacking however. No clubhouse and the no frills pro shop is in a trailer. Minimal food available onsite. No GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. However, overall, considering the condition price and layout, one of the better deals around IMO. Definitely recommended.
Olivas
Played the Blues (6530/71.6/127) with GKer kviser in clear, calm conditions in the 70's. Kevin & I played our GK Cup match. We got a special $29 rate with a cart from teeoff.com after a $10 off promotion was applied. The POP was good, 4H. We rarely pushed the group in front of us and the group behind rarely pushed us. The tees were lush, nicely maintained with few unfixed divots. The fairways were firm and fairly lush. The few poor areas that were clearly marked as GUR. The rough around the fairway is mostly lush. Farther off the fairway could be hardpan with patches of rough that is now waist deep or anything in between. The traps were well maintained and have good quality sand, nice to play from. The greens were firm, smooth and putted medium fast speed. They held well struck irons with a little run out. Olivas is an excellent layout to walk, very flat. Excellent facilities. It was a friday. It was excellent weather. It took 3 hours to play 9 holes. No thank you. But i ❤️ the course and i live locally. Ill be back.
Great course, highly recommend
Great course, great condition. We had to deal with some sogginess due to the amount of rain over the last week but course was in good shape even those the grass is dormant right now. I've played just about everywhere in the greater LA area and Olivas is probably Top 3 on the quality/design/value ranking.
Only complaint is that I don't live closer. Would play regularly
Nice links course
Very nice course but the pace of play is extremely slow. The phrase "While we're young" comes to mind often here is what I gathered. Besides that if you are not in a hurry, which you shouldn't be anyway, very enjoyable layout and challenging greens.
Fun course
Always in great condition. Wide fairways, large greens. Prime scoring conditions! Makes for an enjoyable round.
Well worth playing
This c ourse is great for the average golfer. Fine layout in great condition. Plan on a 4.5 to 5 hour round. If your looking for a round with no waiting this is NOT your course. Otherwise worth a try.
Great Links Course
This course is 100% golf oriented. The pro shop is basically a trailer with a snack bar.
Pace was great for the front nine on the weekend. Slowed down a bit once we made the turn.
Course is fun; wide open hard to lose a ball but can be a little tricky with some of the bunker placements. Greens rolled true.
A fine walk.
We played Olivas Links on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 6:44 in the morning as a twosome. We were paired with two singles and our games were well suited as we each shot in the low to mid 80's. Our round was completed at 10:30. A very enjoyable day of golf. The course is lush green. The greens exceptional.
Olivas Links
Played the Blacks (6818/73.0/130) with GK Review Guru's kviser, JohnnyGK & RGM2525 in overcast, calm conditions in the 70's. We enjoyed a relaxed pace of slightly less than 4.5H playing early morning and finishing just before noon.
Excellent course to walk, very flat. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. Excellent grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green.
The tees were lush, nicely maintained. Very few unfixed divots anywhere.
The fairways were lush and firm. Very nice with the few poor areas that were clearly marked as GUR.
The rough around the fairway is mostly lush. Farther off the fairway is mostly hardpan with patches of lost ball rough.
The traps were well maintained and have good quality sand, nice to play from.
The greens were firm, smooth and medium speed. They look good and putted true.
The customer service is always good here. No frills pro shop is in a trailer, minimal food available onsite. NO GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. Excellent value, especially for an above average layout in well above average condition. Definitely recommended.
