Olivas Links Golf Course
About
Situated along the Ventura Harbor overlooking the Santa Clara River, Olivas Links (formerly known as Olivas Park Golf Course) enjoys coastal breezes that make it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, providing perfect conditions for golf year-round. The golf course has a links-style layout that closely follows the natural swales and curves of the landscape and separated by bands of fescue and wild grasses. The course is mostly open but there are some large pine trees scattered throughout. Its seaside location subjects the golf course to strong winds, especially on the front nine. The challenging layout offers multi-tiered greens and contoured mounding along the fairways. There are also deep bunkers strategically placed throughout Olivas Links, but the openness of the course places a stronger emphasis on hitting the right spot on the fairway or getting the correct angle of approach to the green rather than avoiding the bunkers.

Nice scenic golf near the Ventura beach town
Played this course with cooler ocean breeze during hot S. Cal summer days. Well maintained course but play can be slower at times when people escape to play here from hotter inland. Weekdays play better than crowded weekend.
Course is in great shape. Weather is awesome. Price is right. A great afternoon of golf!
John/Jean
Arrived about 10:30 am for a 11:30 am tee time. Went to the range to hit a few balls. Range was in great shape. Practice Putting green was excellent.
The tee boxes were in great shape with each tee clearly marked. Fairways were neatly trimmed and easy to hit down on the ball without fear. Pace of play was fine. I think we were finished in 4 hours with 3 players. I really enjoy Olivas Links and would recommend this Course to all golfers serious about the game. This is not an easy course but rather will test your skill level from every tee.
Olivas
Played 27 holes from the Blues (6530/71.6/127) in 5.5H with GDR23 & Mack twilight. The conditions were clear, around 80 and a steady 2 club wind the entire afternoon.
The tees were mostly lush with only the par 3's not close to immaculate.
The fairways were lush and soft. The few poor areas were clearly marked as GUR.
The rough around the fairway is mostly lush. Farther off the fairway you could encounter hardpan to waist deep or anything in between.
The traps have good, fine quality sand but for my 3rd straight round here did not appear to have been recently raked. The foot prints were too numerous, plus the green side trap on #5 and the fairway trap on #9 had sprinkler runoff issues.
The greens were medium speed and bumpy for Olivas. Softer than usual, which produced footprints and ball marks in excess on most greens. Definitely not the firm, medium fast, smooth greens I remember @ Olivas.
Customer service excellent as always. One of the best walking courses around. Flat with no long hikes in between holes. Excellent warm up/practice facilities. Really like the multiple chipping areas. Driving range moved back to the outer edge and on mats yesterday. Minimal food & drink available onsite, the no frills pro shop is in a trailer. No GPS on carts, usually no drink cart, so plan ahead if you need food/beverage. Recommended.
Fun and challenging
Tough but fair in the wind plays like classic links. Greens were slow, otherwise perfect day. Like the range, and chipping targets !
Day at Olivas Links
Every chance I get to come out to SC I make an effort to play Olivas Links. My home course away from home. Love the area also.
Fairways and greens are perfect
Great course condition. Pace was a bit slow at times but overall really good
"Screaming Deal"
Got out yesterday @ 3:40 when I saw a $17 rate on Golfnow & had a super enjoyable round as a single.
Guy called the rate a "screaming deal" & he was 100% right.
It was windy, between 15-20 mph, which is likely what kept people away & knocked the rate down. It proved a real challenge on a few holes that were directly into the wind, but I pretended I was playing The Open & clubbed accordingly. :-)
Overall the round was peaceful & pleasant. Course is in great shape & is one of my favorites. Pace of play was 3:20 & shot 75.
20 degree cooler
Was perfect getaway from valley courses.
It was close to 100 in North Hill area,
In Oxnard only 72 light ocean breeze
Couldn't ask for Moore.
Memorial Day golf
OUTSTANDING course with a beautiful slight ocean breeze to enjoy! Some Great Friends and I had a very relaxing day for the Memorial Day Holiday. One of my favorite courses in the area. Always in fabulous shape and the working folks here always friendly and courteous.
Olivas Links
Played the Blues (6530/71.6/127) with Kevin and Shawna in clear, breezy conditions in the 70's. Rarely do I comment about my playing partners, but I was impressed that Shawna played the Blues with a birdie and numerous pars. Drives 225+, irons on the green from 175+ and she had a great short game! The POP was good, 4H playing on an $18 rate with a cart from tee off twilight. We rarely pushed the group in front of us and the group behind rarely pushed us. Olivas is an excellent layout to walk, very flat with no super long walks in between holes. Excellent golf facilities. Grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. Large putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. The tees were mostly lush, nicely maintained with few unfixed divots. A couple of Blues tees were closed as they were doing maintenance on them. The fairways were fairly lush and firm. The few poor areas were clearly marked as GUR. The rough around the fairway is mostly lush. Farther off the fairway could be hardpan to waist deep or anything in between. You need to know where the real deep stuff is barely off fairways and plan accordingly. The traps were nice to play from, well maintained with good quality sand. The greens were firm, smooth and putted medium speed. They held well struck irons with a little run out. The customer service is always excellent here. Minimal food available onsite. The no frills pro shop is in a trailer. No GPS on carts, usually no drink cart, so plan ahead if you need these items. Overall considering the condition, price and layout, one of the better deals in So Cal IMO. Definitely recommended.
This course is well maintained
Well maintained course. Clean tee boxes and fairways. Greens played nice too. Tons of rabbits and squirrels keep you company. Groups ahead of us moved really slow, round took over 4.5 hours. Course could easily be played in 3.5. Fun day overall though.
Fun Course. Will play again
A little slow with a morning senior tournament before we went off. As usual for this time of year the wind picks up in the afternoon 15 - 20 mph and makes it much more challenging.
April 2017
I was a little disappointed arriving for the first time to see a small pro shop and limited concession stand, however the employees and course make up for these shortcomings. Playing in the afternoon at this course plays different then in the mornings due to the wind. The uniqueness of this course has to be the adirondack chairs place by certain tee boxes facing beautiful vistas and landmarks. The course is well maintained and I will come back and play it again next time I'm in the area.
