Olivas Links Golf Course
About
Situated along the Ventura Harbor overlooking the Santa Clara River, Olivas Links (formerly known as Olivas Park Golf Course) enjoys coastal breezes that make it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, providing perfect conditions for golf year-round. The golf course has a links-style layout that closely follows the natural swales and curves of the landscape and separated by bands of fescue and wild grasses. The course is mostly open but there are some large pine trees scattered throughout. Its seaside location subjects the golf course to strong winds, especially on the front nine. The challenging layout offers multi-tiered greens and contoured mounding along the fairways. There are also deep bunkers strategically placed throughout Olivas Links, but the openness of the course places a stronger emphasis on hitting the right spot on the fairway or getting the correct angle of approach to the green rather than avoiding the bunkers.

Loved it
Best public course I have played at. Even Arnold would say: I'll be back.
Olivas
Enjoyed a midday round with GDR23 with a cart. POP was what you would expect for a holiday Sat. afternoon, brutal. It took us slightly more than 4 1/2 hours to play the blues (6530/71.6/127). We took advantage of absolutely beautiful weather conditions, 80ish and little wind, but finished in mostly dark conditions on #18. Had several groups not have quit, we would not have finished, it seemed more like 5.5 hours, we waited and waited on the majority of shots AD.
The fairways were good, semi lush & mowed down low but with decent coverage. Very few bad spots or GUR areas. Considering the amount of play they get here, both the greens and fairways are ++.
The rough has been shaved down in many areas that used to be knee deep. Nicely maintained, you will get a combination of hardpan, lush grass, native weeds and native rough that can be very punitive in places.
The tees were in excellent shape overall, nicely maintained & very lush. All the par 3 tee divots had been recently sanded/filled.
The traps are very well maintained with good sand.
The greens have a decent amount of ball marks but still putted nice, firm & medium fast.
Customer Service as usual was ++, but a drink cart or a Marshall getting some people to move would have been nice. The layout is far less challenging now that the lakes are dry and much of the native rough is mowed down than it was 5 years ago. It's almost like playing a different golf course. Excellent value, especially for the conditions.
Sunday golf
This course is always in great shape. The fairways and greens are near perfect in condition which is a huge plus for a municipal course. The only thing I would fix with Olivas Links is to build a proper club house and what was probably supposed to be a temporary trailer.
extreme slow play
We intended to play 18 holes of golf.
Our tee time was 10:30am and by the time we approached the 17th hole it was 3:30pm.
Unfortunately we had to stop playing. The 18th hole had 4 groups on it and all was jammed and backed up.
The entire day was extremely slow and no ranger/official was trying to speed up the slow play. it was very frustrating and made our golf day much less enjoyable.
Friendly Staff
I enjoyed the course, I like the layouts and the design of the course. The greens were very tough, they were rolling fast. We played in just over 4 hours. I would definitely play again. Staff are very friendly.
Nothing worse than slow play
We were a foursome behind a threesome slower than molasses. Called the clubhouse on 3rd hole when the group was 11/2 holes behind. The marshall sped them up until we got to the turn. The got almost two holes behind again. Very hard to get a rhythm like that.Otherwise, course was in good shape and very fair. Green were fast once the dew evaporated and in great shape.
Nice links course
Nice links course. Very good condition, especially the fairways.
Ventura county golf at its best
I'll leave this links has always been my favorite of all of the Ventura county golf courses. It's greens are normally quick and true and the fairways are always in great shape. Bad timing on my part led me to a leave us right after they sanded the greens so the usual stellar greens I'm used to wear a little bumpy but the rest of the course is awesome. Eat before or after because the clubhouse is and always has been a mobile home. Waiting on funds to build a clubhouse they make do with temporary housing. Don't let this detour you Olivas Links is in my top 5 of public courses
Great condition
Good conditions!
Fast play!
Good results!
Nice staff!
Olivas Links - Fabulous Day
Despite the draught in California, Olivas Links is in great condition. The course is owned by the City of Ventura, and it has easy access to abundant reclaimed water from the wastewater facility 500 yards away. The Tees and Greens were manicured, and you almost always had a good lie if you were in the fairway. They have cut back the "rough" rough, so there are not as many lost balls and slow play has been greatly reduced.
Olivas Rocks
This was the second time playing at this course and have nothing but great things to say about it. As you can see from the spefics, we enjoyed it and will return again and again.
Over priced
This course shoukd be capped at 45.00. There is no club house so no food! Only chips and protein bars. If you're lucky, they'll have pre-made sandwhiches that you get at gas stations. I believe they charge so much, (75.00) because it's near the beach so it's much cooler, but over all the conditions are no where near worth that price
Olivas is great
Always a beautiful day at Olivas! A challenge for golfers of all levels.
Best course in the LA area
This looks like a pro golf course. Very green, well
trimmed and perfect greens. The course is
maintained at the highest level.

Arrived at approximately 11:30 am on Sunday, August 17. The grass on the practice range was in sad condition. It had a been awhile since I had played this course and based on the range I was concerned. Practice putting greens were in great shape. Starter got us going 15 minutes early at 12:30. The tee boxes were in really good shape, the fairways were awesome and the bunkers had real sand. Putting was fantastic. This is a really nice course and the people that work there take great pride in its condition. The only complaint I have is the range condition. Mats out would have been a better choice that day. Overall I give this course a great rating. Pace of play for 4 people was right on at 4 hours. Pretty good for Sunday afternoon at a public course. I will play Olivas again very soon.
Great Value
This course was very well maintained and seemed like a much more expensive golf course. All the greens and fairways were pristine with soft and well cut grass. Very nice surprise.
Love this course
Was a little windy, a little overcast but the fairways were so lush and soft and no one in sight in front of us. Awesome day great course. So well kept. Look forward to returning
Great Course, terrific staff
Not the first time playing this lovely course by the sea but thought I'd write a review giving kudos to their staff. We were stuck in traffic in the SFV with 2 accidents on the 101 making us miss our tee time by 30 minutes. They got us out quickly without any issue and the course was terrific as usual. If you haven't played it before it's a gem.
Slow
This is a beautiful and well maintained golf course...however...it took 3 hours to play the front nine and that was all I could take. Please golfers...if you can't break 120, then you do not need three practice swings nor to plumb bob your 15 footer for a quad. Golf is a three hour game, but I guess that's what I get for teeing off in the afternoon and not being there at sunrise to be the first one out.
