Olivas Links Golf Course
About
Situated along the Ventura Harbor overlooking the Santa Clara River, Olivas Links (formerly known as Olivas Park Golf Course) enjoys coastal breezes that make it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, providing perfect conditions for golf year-round. The golf course has a links-style layout that closely follows the natural swales and curves of the landscape and separated by bands of fescue and wild grasses. The course is mostly open but there are some large pine trees scattered throughout. Its seaside location subjects the golf course to strong winds, especially on the front nine. The challenging layout offers multi-tiered greens and contoured mounding along the fairways. There are also deep bunkers strategically placed throughout Olivas Links, but the openness of the course places a stronger emphasis on hitting the right spot on the fairway or getting the correct angle of approach to the green rather than avoiding the bunkers.

great course for the price, can't be beat
I would go back in a heart beat, most courses in this kind of shape will cost you twice the money...
Olivas sets the standard !
Olivas Links is a wonderful golf facility, for all abilities and ages. The course is in great condition all year, and the weather is always moderate. The rates are fair for the experience you get. I can usually find rates $35-$40 mid day on this site, that is with cart ! They have four sets of tee boxes, that are properly spaced, and provide fun for all skill levels. Very friendly for women and juniors. No fancy clubhouse, but thats ok, because you have ocean breezes, and great golf ! Well worth the 45 minute drive from the valley. LA City courses are now about $50 wit cart , six hour rounds, and no grass under you ball !
beautiful course!
Wonderfully maintained course! The grass feels like you're walking on a carpet!!! At many of the tee off boxes you have Aerodeck chairs-really cool! Good pace of play on Sunday!
Wish they had a clubhouse!
Fun links style course
This is a fun course to play. There are a few challenging holes a few easy ones and the rest are average. The course plays tough when you get the onshore winds. Pace of play was terrible with three or four groups on every hole.
Great course for the price
Playing early in the morning on a weekday, I was surprised to find a decent number of people all ready at the course. It was no problem though, as pace of play was great. The course was in great condition. The fairways were in excellent shape. The course can be tough if you are not hitting the ball straight because of the natural "links" style grass that grows just a few feet off the primary rough. Overall a good value.
Best public greens in LA area
Course is in great shape. Was my first time playing and couldn't have been more impressed. We were paired up with an employee of the course (E.J.) who offered super-friendly and expert advice on how to play the track.
- Excellent practice facility
- Immaculately maintained tees, fairways, and greens throughout the course
- Challenging, yet playable, layout
- Super friendly humans (not golf snobs) behind the counter.
I cannot wait to come back and play again!
Links layout is a nice change from normal. Greens tricky but fun.
The costal breeze can be a challenge if you don't hit it low and straight. Greens a little slow, but have some slope and tight pins can leave you wondering. A fun time, enjoy the relaxing breeze.
Great links style course!
Course was in great condition, not quite "pristine". Greens ran true and fairways in great shape. Olivas is a challenging yet fair course and the weather in Ventura is almost always better than inland areas.
Fun course. Great design, but SLOW pace of play.
Fun course. My only complaint would be that the pace of play is very slow. Five hours both times I played there on a week day. It seems that they could book fewer tee times or marshal the pace of play to lower the wait time on the tees. Many players give up and bail out of the round before finishing. A great deal of patience is required to play here!
Clean up of trees and growth around course is improving.
Enjoying the course more and the course is better maintained. Find the greens to bumpy and would like to see the water areas with water in them that is cleaner and nicer looking.
Needs a Marshall to keep pace of play
Pace of play has always been a problem at Olivas for me. I'm a slow pace player but 41/2-5 hour play is horrible. You loss your tempo and get frustrated. We had a threesome giving lessons and dropping balls in front of us and to top it off they walked the course! 4 out of the 5 times I played there mon-Saturday the round time for 18 was 41/2-5 hours! Icing on the cake there is no snack cart so you are in the woods while waiting to tee off! Great course otherwise! Staff is nice and condition of the course is good. I will return as the price on ex link on the weekdays you can't beat. Make sure you are prepared for a 5 hour round even on weekdays!
A top five course in the Ventura area. Best playing conditions are late morning.
Most of the rough is natural areas which means potential for unplayables. The greens are fun to putt on with twists and level changes. The white, blue, black tee set up provides three distinct playing options. Demanding from the blacks especially after noon when the prevailing SW wind can require hitting two clubs longer. The course offers a good balance of long/short left/right holes. With the par 3's measuring anywhere from 8 iron to hybrid. The sand is fine and good to play out of just be sure to dig in with your shoes as there is bouncy clay under 2" of sand in some traps. All in all this course should be on your to play list.
Fun to play
Good course, well maintained, and good value and I will play again soon.
Nice course
The greens ran true and the fairways were in good shap. Stay out of the ruff if you want to score well
play was too slow for conditions
took over five hours to play a thursday round due to slow foursome/s about five groups ahead of us. never saw the marshal past the first tee. we teed off at 12:10, parking lot was less than half full, didn't have to wait on any shot until the fourth tee, then had to wait on every shot the rest of the round. could see a two-hole gap ahead of the lead group - could have been corrected by normal course marshal intervention.
Fun links style course
This a fun course; not the best maintained in the area, but still in good shape. A good links style setup that is fun, especially the second 9. Got stuck behind a group of slow players, so it definitely slowed our round down. Not sure if I'd want to pay the full price rate for a morning tee time, but definitely worth 40 bucks for an early afternoon tee time.
A FAST ROUND
I like this links course because the course has character, its not a boring municipal course where all the holes are flat, look the same, and have wide fairways. There is a variety in difficulty and layout of the holes. There are holes that require a good drive and good 2nd shot to get par. I also like that you get lots of run on the fairways in the afternoon. I enjoyed that I teed off at 6:40 AM and finished playing by 9:50 AM.
Beautiful Links Course
Bring your straight game. Any hits right or left and you can easily lose a ball in the "natural area". I lost several balls in just 6 to 8 inches of weeds. That's kind of frustrating. But it's a beautiful course. Would definitely play it again.
New favorite course
Outstanding greens. Well maintained tees and fairways. Challenging hole designs. I thought I was playing a country club.
ok course.
I played this course on a windy day. But according to staff there, it's usually pretty windy. The course was in good shape. nice fairways and greens. Greens were nice and not very fast. The layout is a bit confusing going from hole to hole or figuring out which fairway to aim for. It's a true links course. There aren't too many of them around here, unless they're cheap little muni's. There were a lot of people there and very crowded. I got stuck behind the local high school team playing a practice round or tournament. I ended up jumping a few holes ahead. The players are nice and most let me play through. All in all, if your looking to play a links style course with med-heavy wind like you were in Scotland then this is the course for you. If you're used to high shots and soft landings, like most of us in the states, then you will have a difficult time. Still a fun time. Got to try a lot of shots like punches, bump and runs from 150 yards etc. Just don't expect to put up great scores on your first time out.
