Great round of golf. It was kinda hot but I guess you can’t control that. Plenty of water (to drink).
Really Good Golf Course
This course is well laid out in in really good condition apart from a couple of greens which had some bare patches. Not sure what caused that as the greens, for the most, were very good. Unfortunately, heavy rain and thunder curtailed our round after hole 12.
Battle Field
Overall the course was good to play. I won’t complain paying for a decent course. I will return to play again. Fairways were a little overgrown and the greens were fuzzy. They were mowing the course during the round. Course layout is somewhat difficult to follow and only a few holes have distance to the green on approach shots. Bring a rangefinder or have an app downloaded so you can see what the distance left is. Staff was nice very nice.
Battlefield Golf Course, Chesapeake Va
My brother-in-law from Oregon and. I (from England) played this course on two baking hot days back to back. We found the course well maintained, fair and made challenging and interesting by excellent water hazards. It is also darn good value for money. The thing that stood out for me though was the friendliness and good humour of the staff. When we had finished our first round and we’re trying to get a cab back to Virginia Beach, the team in the clubhouse could not have been more helpful or hospitable.
Hot Hot Hot
I’m from PortlandO, my brother-in-law is from England. We had a hot round today, not because of our level of play, but because of the ambient temperature, which was a foreshadowing of what lies ahead in eternity.
We found the course fair and well prepared. Most greens are inverted frying pans, so the approach has to carry the green rather than run up. The value per dollar was excellent!
We are going back in the morning in the hope of lowering our scores and to thank the staff for their hospitality, which was exceptional.
VALUE
This course is such a hidden gem. Greens, tee boxes and fairways in great shape. Even most of the bunkers had nice and fluffy sand. Great layout that is challenging but also forgiving on some holes. Allows for aggressive play on the par 5s and a few of the par 4s. The “clubhouse” is operating out of a trailer for now but has everything you need. For the price, you won’t find a better course in Hampton roads.
Beautiful course, in great shape
Ver crowded, however pace of play was very good, 18 holes in 3.5 hours
Greens much improved
Two weeks ago the greens full of sand.., today much better
Maybe some day
Fun course. They have been talking about a club house for years, now the lumber price increase has delayed it again. But you don't putt in a club house so there is that
No Water
The club house has no facilities or access to water? I always wet my towel before starting a round as I find it easier to clean my golf ball and clubs. No water available until the 7th hole which, is drinking water? Overall however it is a fun track.
Would recommend.
This is my second time playing this course, and it is extremely fun to play. A lot of water is in play on most holes, however there are also some holes where the fairway is hard to miss. Fairways were in great shape and so was the rough. The greens were in much better shape then when I played this course a month ago. 25 bucks for 18 and a cart at this place is about the best deal you can get in Virginia Beach.
Battlefield
The greens had a tremendous amount of sand on them. I realize this must be done to keep the greens, but way too much! This course has be open for 15 years? And they still work out of a trailer and bathrooms are port a John’s in the the back!
It’s a wide open course and challenging but the condition of the greens was so poor it’s hard to get a feel for how they roll under normal conditions. Until then it’s hard to recommend this course. Although we did get a tremendous amount of rain last night so maybe it washed the sand off..
