Old at Firewheel Golf Park
About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Real character
I wish fairways were over seeded but I understand the cost involved
Fireheel Old
For winter great condition, fun course can hit all drivers. Play the correct t box and havd fun, very little sand.
Great course for the money
This course rates as one of my favorites in their price point.
Fun!
Good course with a bit of everything. There are some holes where placement is key as well as grip it and rip it holes. Greens are in excellent condition! Rolled true and good pace.
$40 for a weekend morning round through golf now... You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal.
nice cheap round
Good course for the money with fast greens and open fairways... But lots of leafs in the fall
Good over the years
The Old Course at Firewheel has been the best public course in the east Dallas area for the last 25 years. No tricks just a great traditional layout.
Fast greens.
The greens were nice and fast. Fun course to play.
First timer
solid course for the $. Some bad patches on the greens and rock hard bunkers but I will go back
Good layout. Good greens
Overall it's a good course. A little run down in spots, but the greens are in good shape.
danger
Fire ants takeing over the course you have to be careful around this course if you step on a colony you will be attacked potential death if allergic. Nice lay out
Olde Course good as usual
I used to play at Firewheel frequently, but moved far enough away that it no longer makes sense for me to make the trip. This time, I got a super price on a Hot Deal, so I decided to make the drive and enjoyed the course. Though I didn't play very well this time, the Olde Course was the first place I broke 80, so it always has good memories for me. The course was in good shape and my only complaint was that there were some groups on the front nine that were playing exceptionally slow. All around, it was a good day and I'm glad I went.
Oldie but a goodie
I always enjoy playing out here, I live 30 miles away and still don't mind.
Its was a beautiful day, the green were fast and true, just some bare spots on the fringes on a few greens but no complaints especially for $38 on a Sunday morning.
TEE Time Not Honored
As usual a bunch of regulars show up and they tell my tee time was overbooked. Typical stuff that only happens at Firewheel.
Good Condition but Tough Course
Played on a Sunday afternoon. The course was wide open and got around in less than 4 hrs. The course condition was pretty good for the value, but the course was tough if you don't keep the ball in the fairway. The rough was extremely long and thick and many times we saw exactly where the ball went into the rough and were unable to find it because the ball was buried.
A good course
This was a good course for weekend play. Challenging enough but not overly hard.
Great course!
The hole placement on the greens was a little messed up, making the simplest putts impossible.. But overall good course!
Nice course but needs improvement
Bunkers were not maintained. Distance markers were hard to find in the fairways.
Nice layout, conditions need improving.
Most of the holes were in good shape, and almost all of the greens were nice. But there are several areas where they are scaling back or eliminating bunkers, and the whole area is just ground under construction. When these areas all fill in with grass, The Old will be back up there with a higher rating. But right now, those skinned areas are not good. Still an old style layout that is fun to play.
Great Course
Friendly Staff and great course. Will play again. Course is under construction but it's still good to play.
ok for less than $20
got a hot deal on the website for a single at $15.00 for the money it was fine but not worth the drive if paying full price. in fair to poor shape since the city does not fund this place well. has always been for seniors and duffers. this has not changed in the 20 years since i last played here. i wont be back anytime soon
