Osprey Point Golf Club - Falcon/Raven Course
About
Situated on what used to be farmland and later used for shellrock mining, Osprey Point Golf Club is hardly recognizable from its former landscape. The Parks and Rec Department of Palm Beach County took the abandoned land in South County Regional Park that was completely overgrown and turned it into Florida's first Audubon International Classic Signature Golf Course. To achieve this designation, the department instituted several environmental protection practices, increased the acres of natural habitat, and converted to more environmentally friendly grass on the tees, greens, and fairways. The golf course offers 27 holes that are played in three different combinations. The Falcon/Raven Course is one of the combinations. It has a rolling landscape that is enhanced by native vegetation and a playable quality thanks to five sets of tees.

Bring a lunch, it gonna be a long day.
Absolutely ridiculous pace of play. We literally were standing around for 5 -10 minutes on every shot even after calling the clubhouse for player assistance and explaining the situation they said they’d get right on it but it was simply a waste of my time to ask as they never even bothered coming around to see what the hold up was. I had heard such great things about this course unfortunately it didn’t come close to those expectations.
There were 20 jet skis in the lakes making all kinds of noise and across one of the lakes there was a huge party at one of the outdoor pavilions they have available for rent and the DJ and music was so loud I have no idea how anyone at that party could even hear themselves talk. $52 per person for a Sunday afternoon of golf and having to play under those conditions is is not my idea of a good day of golf. It’s simply not worth going there especially when you’re going there to play golf but are forced to attend an outdoor concert instead. Needless to say, I won’t be going back.
Who Would Believe
You won’t believe that Osprey is a public course facility....The amount of staff involved to the quality of not only the course conditions but the practice facility would have one think you are at a private country club....the refreshment carts were also very active vs infrequent....as with all public courses the snack/food availabilty and facility is almost non existant the only Osprey draw back to a place i can’t wait to play again!
Best Value for Public Course in SoFL
I play Osprey Point all the time. They've raised rates over the years, but it is still a great value. Condition of the entire course from tee to green is almost always fantastic. Yesterday the greens weren't the best I've ever seen them, but still very good.
The course is so popular that pace of play can be an issue sometimes. Yesterday the course was playing really short, including a 230 yard Par 4 on Hawk
Can't recommend this course enough if you can manage to get a tee time
We appreciate the five-star review and continued support. Our goal at Osprey Point is to provide the best public golf experience possible and we view reviews like this one as validation.
As Far as Public Options Go, You Could Do MUCH Worse
An enjoyable round. It’s still south Florida, so the terrain is mostly flat and sort of uninteresting, but this course does the most with it that could be hoped for. A handful of holes have really interesting green complexes, and the whole course is in very good shape. Word of warning: the greens had just been top-dressed (if that’s something that bothers you).
Capt. Willard,
Thanks for coming from Mississippi and for spending a day with us. We pride ourselves on being one of the best public golf options in South Florida and reviews like this let us know our hard working is worth it. Thank you.
Excellent practice facility!
Had a three day golf trip from Pennsylvania. Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club (Great course) and Normandy Shores (Absolute disappointment - see review).
Cant say enough how much we enjoyed our day at Osprey Point. First off the staff was very friendly and helpful. The practice area was to die for. We just don't see practice areas like this where we live in PA (and we have some great courses in eastern Pa and NJ). The driving range was large with grass tees , There was a huge putting green with an absolutely perfect surface where we couldn't find a single blemish. There was a large sand trap to practice out of and a chipping green where you probably had enough room to drop back and hit shots from 70yards. If I lived here I would take advantage of this practice area weekly.
The course offers three nines and it seems to be pretty organized. We were teamed up with an older couple from North Jersey and they played great. John hit the pin on a par 3 and his wife Mary was compressing the ball and pouring in putts, they were great.
The course is right along the Everglades so we saw our share of wildlife but no gators although I guarantee they are lurking near by. We ventured in to some bushes to look for wayward shots and we heard something with some weight moving around and we got out of there.
The greens were perfect, fast and challenging. Course was tight in areas but not overly tight for a couple of guys who have big two way misses,
This is how golf should be, preferred it over the high priced country club surrounded by 10 million dollar homes and Normandy Shores was one of my 3 least favorite rounds of golf due to the outrageous non resident greens fee and BRUTAL pace of play.
I really wish we came back and played a different combo of nines in lieu of Normandy Shores.
It sounds like you've already planned your next golf trip. ;)
This is one heck of a review and we are so very thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your experienced with us so much. Next time you look to escape the cold of Pennsylvania, we'd love to have you at Osprey Point.
great golf round
met very nice golf partner who was a stranger until the round and now a friend enjoyed the golfing great course will play many times more
Just another example of why golf is such a great game. Thanks for sharing your experience and we look forward to having the both of you back soon.
Love the Course
My second time playing the course Falcon/Raven and similar to my first time playing, the course conditions did not fail me. Mind you, the greens had been top dressed recently but they were still in good condition and moderately fast. The staff were much friendlier this time as I had issues previously. Look forward to playing when next I am in the area and maybe get lucky and assigned the Hawk.
Thank you so much for returning for a second round with us! We will do our very best to get you out on Hawk when you return for your third round.
Dollars
Overpriced for a public course. Many other courses in the area are much cheaper and just as good
Frank,
Palm Beach County owns and operates five golf facilities, and while Osprey Point is our highest priced course, we have plenty of fantastic golf to offer at great prices all across the county. Please visit PBCGolf.com to learn more.
Thanks, but would be helpful to list a few courses that you would recommend.
First round at this course
Course in good shape and greens fast but true. Slow play due to a maximum of players on course. We played with another twosome who guided us around the course and commented that this was their favourite course in the area.
We're glad that you enjoyed your day with us and that some of our regulars were able to point you in the right direction. We hope Osprey Point is now your favorite course in the area, too! See you again soon.
Exceptional!
Fairways and greens in perfect condition. Layout is outstanding.
Solid track
Normally playing a course in South Florida without houses lining the fairways would be a breathe of fresh air or rather a breathe of fresh silence. Unfortunately for Osprey in an effort to squeeze 27 holes onto a piece of property means various greens being situated close to tee boxes. More than once was I interrupted in my backswing by another group on a different set of 9 holes. The feature shaping of the course was done very well in effort to hide adjacent holes from one another because there are so tight. The surrounding environment and habitat is very noticeable as you make your way around, and reminds you constantly that the animals were here first and this is their home. Another unique characteristic was that almost every par 4 was a dogleg right; which is great for beginners and amateurs alike who tend to slice the ball, but takes away from the variety one might expect.
golf with friends
is a great place to play the only trouble there was very slow too many slow players i think the starter and the rules can be more strict, the players behind kept hitting the ball to early and almost hit us a few times
Thank you very much for coming out to play. During the winter months we do get extremely busy but we do our very best to keep the pace moving. We apologize if round was a bit slower than you had hoped but hopefully the scenery and wildlife help to make up for the waiting. See you again soon!
We've recently announced the plans of a new clubhouse and we will be breaking ground in 2018. Along with the plans for the new clubhouse is a full restaurant. We hope that once that opens, you'll return and click that fifth star. ;)
