Located west of Glasgow, Earl of Mar Golf Club overlooks the River Clyde with views that stretch beyond the Kilpatrick Hills. A scenic forest filled with more than 250 chestnut and beech trees shaped the design of the course, carving the doglegs and framing the greens. It has a traditional parkland layout that offers a fair amount of challenges balanced by generous fairways that are beginner-friendly. Many holes present interesting risk-reward opportunities where good strategy and some skill will get you far, but they are not too punishing if you are slightly errant. Weaving through the trees requires accuracy and numerous strategically placed bunkers emphasize its importance even further. There are only a few holes that play right alongside the river though golfers will enjoy scenic views on almost every hole.

Marr hall

Unfortunately marr hall has lost all its greens making them unplayable, course layout is fantastic but being unable to putt on any greens spoiled the round

Poor greens

Layout is great and has potential. Greens are in terrible condition. Really disappointed to have paid 37 quid per person for those conditions.

Worst greens ever

The course location is beautiful and the layout was fantastic with lots of feature holes , however the quality of the greens was shambolic , was like playing golf in a cow field

Bad greens

Worst greens I have ever seen in my full life (33 years old) charged 50£ pp , should be a lot cheaper untill fixed. Fair ways and bunkers were decent , course should be 20£ till the greens are sorted or shut …

The greens

Course layout is great with a good setting. But to pay £50 for the greens hollow tined and double scarified in summer isn’t idea. I wasn’t made aware of this until I turned up at the pro shop. Next year it might be back to its best but for now to pay £50 is scandalous!

Challenging course

All in all a good challenging course with narrow fairways and plenty of bunkers. However the greens are in a really bad condition at the minute, does look and sound like the staff are doing their best to get them back to a great standard but other than that the course is in good condition.

Course in awful condition

Bunkers were a joke, grass and weeds growing out them and big lumps of sand in them. Greens were black and in awful condition for this time of year. Tee box’s had long grass and were poorly kept.

The course is having work done , no bunkers in play as to renovation of bunkers ,greens were black because of moss treatment , the layout is superb , the new owners have big plans but the course is in poor condition just now ( June 24)

Condition very poor

The course still has charm but unfortunately neglected with spiralling maintenance costs. I’m aware of investment in the course which should help over time but theres a long way to go, especially with greens and bunkers.

Excited to see the course next year.

Marr hall

We were warned before we played of the moss on the greens and no sand in the bunkers. The tees were bare as well. I know the course is getting invested into. I will be back to play but maybe not till next year.

Good value

I got the hot deal rate £27 , the greens are heavy with moss but still playable , the bunkers have weeds however I didn’t go into any , and the tee boxes were average.

The location , views and speed I could play the course made up for these short comings and of course £27 rate made it a good day.

Not worth it

Pro shop closed on arrival, no where to check in so just walked on.

Greens in awful condition, black moss everywhere, bunkers had grass growing through them and no sand in them and the tee boxers where in awful shape. However the fairways were in good condition. A lot of work is needed to bring the course up to scratch

Not worth the money even on a hot deal, there are courses in the area for the same price in considerably better condition.

I won’t be back

Mar hall

At one time this must have been a great golf course but neglect has got a hold of it the greens were a disgrace very spungie and covered in moss my advice to the course management is close it and resurface your greens and your tee boxes definitely not worth the £45 we payed to play it if had payed the course directly I would have demanded my money back but as I booked it through golf now I'm sure there will be no refund.

Course in very good condition with the exception being the greens. They were full of moss and had recently been cored so putts would kick sometimes. In a few weeks though will likely be terrific.

Needs investment

Fairways were good condition, greens early season state however bunkers need much work - not raked and weeds growing through in every hole.

Definitely not worth the price!

We tipped up and were offered a round of £40 each but golf now was £35! Needed a buggy as I’m a blue badge holder which was another £40. Many golf clubs are offering half price buggies for disabled players but Mar Hall only took £10 off (so much for making golf accessible for all).

The greens are in terrible condition which made putting impossible.

Full of moss and they’d just been spiked, so trying to find a line was also impossible! The staff explained that they have recently been taking over by a company in Dubai and they were spending lots of money on making the course better. But my question is, why ask so much to play on an unplayable course right now. They seem proud to say that a round will be in excess of £140 once it’s in better condition but if I’d known how bad it truly was, I would have saved my £110 and gone to play somewhere better.

We lost a few balls there too because the long grass had been cut but not collected, which made finding them again also impossible!

I’m so disappointed and wish I’d read more reviews before playing here. Unfortunately we won’t be back!

Mar hall golf

Have to say I have read some of the reviews by ex members and have to say I found the course in fairly decent condition considering the recent weeks of rain we have had I have played the course a few times over recent mths and found it reasonably priced i booked it through golf now for £30 a round which for me is an acceptable price the hotel and course has recently been taken over by new management and hopefully in time they will spend money upgrading the course but for now I will definitely go back in summer mths

Needs some tlc

Some Fairways were like walking in a swamp mud everywhere

Greens covered in moss and had been spiked so gave up on trying to putt

One fairway had a fallen tree on it

Practice putting green spiked covered in twigs and stones also no flags in the holes

The flags on the course were all ripped

A fair few divots not been repaired

Disgraceful

Absolute disgrace of a course place has never seen a green keeper, green’s covered in moss fairways littered with debris and bunkers look like a land mine went off in them do not waste a penny going here.
