Bad Bad Bad
I have played this course about 2 times a year in the past 10 or so years without any complaint.
That has come to an end ... me a 2 friends booked a hot deal slot 17/04/21 £9.00 for 9 holes .. wow great deal ... The course is being refurbed and only holes 5 to 13 playable (or supposedly). It looks as though the ground staff had just come back on 12/04/21. The fairways had been cut ... the greens were as dry as a bone and had been spiked and you could not putt on them with any chance of holing anything. It was like crazy golf ... hit and hope.In hindsight some photo's would have been helpful.
£9.00 sounded like a good deal but I would reccomend this course is given a wide berth for at least a couple of years. I have never been so disappointed in a course.
Beautiful location
First time playing this course.only 9 holes available which was fine .fairways are well maintained .fairly challenging course with a few water hazards.overall a decent course .my only gripe was the greens running very slow .apart from that very enjoyable
Greens haven’t improved.
Three weeks after opening the fairways are in decent nick but the tees are rather uneven and greens really poor - masses of sand and mechanical holes in them. Putting with any degree of accuracy impossible, ball keeps diverting.
I booked the course (2 rounds of 9 holes booked back to back) because it was convenient, but it really did spoil the round. When more courses more easily available in summer I will go elsewhere. It’s a shame it used to be in great nick.
Will be a good course Again
This course at the moment is only a 9 hole 5 to 13 A lot off work going on It’s the hotel what’s been done So be prepared When it gets back too normal I can see it be a very good course again
Mid-renovation - cheap but slow and messy.
There are some sort of renovations taking place at Aldwark meaning the slightly dull (though narrow and still challenging) far side of the river is in play for the 9 holes I booked (for a very cheap £10). However, what was very disappointing was the state of the greens, even the holes were not very sharp. There had clearly been the aftermath of recent weather and the fairways were a little heavy (the odd good shot stopping dead in the middle of the fairway), but that isn’t the fault of anyone. The greens however should have been better, and given it was day 3 of golf being on again nothing felt very neat and tidy.
Dreadful
Told before play 4 or 5 winter greens, one hole completely out of play due to building works on the Manor. The course was very wet, play was woefully slow..
Bargain
Ok, so one hole was shut and there were a couple of winter greens, but for £10 it’s still great value. The young guy in the shop was really friendly and almost apologetic about the course, but we’d read the reviews and were expecting it. A bit boggy in places but millionaires golf at bargain prices. Well done and will deffo play again.
All round, a great round.
Lovely course, very versatile, a real good mixture of play. greens were slightly boggy, but due given, we’ve had lots of rain, 19th hole facilities were beautiful, food was amazing and the other facilities were stunning
Okay
The fairways were pretty long and acted like a first cut the ball didn’t run on as it usually does. The greens were too slow. This could be due to the weather during the previous week.
The 3rd hole was out of action due to construction work on the site. The 4th hole and the 14th were way too close together it was as if you were sharing a fairway in opposite directions.
Overall it wasn’t great and not really worth the green fee.
The lad in the pro shop was great. Really helpful and enjoyed a chat.
The changing rooms were dated and need renovation.
A manor house that seems more bothered about weddings than the golf which is understandable I suppose.
very enjoyable round
we booked this round on a whim on a day we had nothing to do and backed a winner .The price was right £15 each and in view of recent heavy rain in the area the course was in good condition , although the 3rd hole was closed and the 15th played to a winter green . we had two periods of light rain which did not last more than a couple of minutes . We had the course to ourselves which was great ..Give this course a go you will not be disappointed .
Nice walk by the river
Because of extension work on the hotel the 3rd hole is currently closed, but the rest is fine. Nice parkland layout around the hotel, and down along both banks of the river in lovely countryside. A bit soft with recent rain meant too many pitchmarks on the greens - but then I usually play links golf so am probably spoilt! Extremely good value for money, and quiet so even mid morning I was able to play at my own peace all the way. Would play here again.
