Never reached its potential
I was a member at Allestree Park Golf Course for 12 years. It always had the potential to be the best course in Derbyshire but never reached its potential due to Council Non Commitments. Now its closed due to Council Non Commitments. Some low handicappers realized its potential , but the high handicappers who ran the club and the non golf Derby Council never realized it. Its a crying shame. You cannot build a golf course with this superior course layout. All it needed was lengthening slightly and a few new hazards adding and it would have been the best in Derbyshite - no doubt about it.! Now its gone - due to Money or Lack of it! - abit like the European Super Soccer League.
Goodbye allestree golf course.
Great golf course. Spectacular views. Pity this course is now permanently closed and is no more... will miss this place.....
Goodbye Allestree
Played this course many times over last two years and this was my last round before the Council close the place for good. Greens in nice condition and hilly course with great views always a pleasure to play. Will really miss playing at Allestree and it's a rotten shame that it's being closed.
Nice course, challenging walk
Largely enjoyable course but not suitable for anyone who isn't up for a challenging hilly walk. Also be aware you are sharing the area with walkers, families etc. casually using the park so needs a bit of patience and consideration. All round.
Would be a great course in the summer also very hilly
An enjoyable last round at a great course
Considering the recent wet weather the course was in excellent condition and particularly impressed with the Greens. So sad that it is scheduled to close soon.
The best muni for many miles
This is a wonderfully well designed course which I have played over 400 times - and I never tire of it. In the 5th and 17th it has two of the best and most challenging par 3s anywhere and there are a number of great driving holes, some from elevated tees, including the fabulous 3rd hole. If the Council maintained it slightly better it could surely justify a higher green fee to balance the books. A way must be found to save this gem.
Try to play here before it closes!
Considering the time of year we went the course was in great condition, a huge variation of holes to challenge all golfers. I would have loved to play this in the summer but unfortunately we were told it is closing down in the new year. It will be a massive shame as the course really surprised me and my mates. Will try to get another round in before New Years
No show
Ended up not going as I was let down by playing partners.Shame as I believe it's going to shut at the end of the year. Good course another one bites the dust.
Regularly interrupted and poor layout
First off, it’s a beautiful area and the scenery is great. However, as a public course this draws far too many walkers that are happy to walk straight across the fairway without caution.
The course took 6 hours due to regular stops in play to allow for pedestrians, while we then got caught up and had to allow smaller groups of golfers play through us.
The course is long, hilly and poorly laid out with regular crossovers between fairways and greens within 20 feet a of each other at some points
Challenging for a beginner
Generally this is a challenging course for a beginner or less experienced golfer. The course layout is confusing at times, with poor or obscured signage to the next tee. This caused delays in progress and potential slow play.
Overall though we enjoyed our first visit and will book again.
