My review
That photo isn't Allestree and we started at 4.06 not 3.06 but anyway, course was excellent. Played there many times through the years and as a municipal it is an excellent challenge with fantastic views. The greens were better than I remember, the only two things that the course lacks are proper markers for yardage on the fairways and a bar open afterwards but I understand why both aren't there. Please say hello to Mick Fynnthe captain who I used to work with.
Amazing value
£5 for a round of golf! Great course - challenging and some lovely holes.
Gem
Played here many of times and will continue to do so.
Staff always friendly in the shop.
The pricing is fantastic and the last few times I have been I have been paying 5 for a round.(twilight hours)
Set in a parkland the course is extremely hilly. The holes are not very long but every hole is either up a hill or down a hill but always seems uphill. Certainly know about it on the legs afterwards. There is some great holes with amazing views. Also some very rewarding holes here. Fairways always seem to be ok and the greens are slow but are consistent.
Run by the council you would never know, and for the price I couldn't recommend this place any more.
Decent considering
Attended on a really bad day of weather and some of the green were quite waterlogged but apart from that the course was great. Will attend under better weather again.
Great course in parkland setting.
This course is great value and has challenges for any level of golfer
Nice layout
Good layout not too long but a premium for keeping it straight greens were a tad slow for my liking but did stay true.
Climbing experience essential
I had played this course many years ago and did not remember how hilly it was! Just about every hole is uphill or downhill (mostly up it seemed) - many of them quite steep and long. It was usually quite a relief to reach the greens for a bit of a respite. I guess age and the fact that I only have short legs were also a factor. Having said that the course was in good condition with quite a lot of interesting holes and I did quite enjoy it
Parkland golf
Excellent value with course in good condition. Scenery fantastic & not many golfers on during my midweek round.
Always a pleasure to return as I played a lot of club golf here in the past.
Value for Money
Played solo for £10. Was let through by group of 4 after 8 holes. Was offered earlier but happy to bide my time. For a municiple course it was in good condition. Fairways v good, greens had bare patches but mostly ran true. Some difficult tee shots with trees flanking.
Have to watch out for walkers but during the week not a big issue. Course layout bit strange with fair walk between some holes.
New to area so trying many but will return.
Always a good round......
I play here throughout winter and summer and for the price you pay the course is fantastic. If you compare it to top end courses then yes the greens are a bit slow and the fairways could be neater, but for a council run public course it's fantastic.
Great range of holes and the 12th is an absolute beast
Excellent value and friendly staff
Great course. Difficult in places a good challenge for all abilities.
Member of staff was excellent. Showed me the way to the first tee and explained layout.
Value-for-money course.
Played the course after a period of wet weather but found conditions relatively dry underfoot. Driving mats were in use but proper greens in play. Not surprisingly, the greens were slow and fairways a bit uneven and the course presented more of challenge as a result. There is a nice mix of holes and on a sunny day the views are impressive; in particular looking back from the green on the only par 5 12th is quite spectacular. On the day, the course was virtually deserted as the weather forecast had been unfavourable but represented tremendous value for money at a most competitive price. There is a bar area but opening times are restricted and the Bridge Inn at Duffield provides an alternative option in the absence of the 19th watering hole.
Allestree GC
Booked game through tee times. Lovely hilly course with scenic views. Greens in good condition for a municipal, however, fairways could do with improvement. Scored 99 will be back playing course again.
Fine course
The course was in good condition, greens a little slow but fair which is usual.
Good golfing challenge although not overly long.
Fantastic views.
Allestree 30.09
Course is in superb nick, fairways and greens all in really good order. For £12 you just cannot complain. The best course in Derby in my opinion, you can pay a lot more and not get such a good course.
The hilly nature of this course makes for a challenging game and some excellent views.
A short course and only par 68 might suggest an easy game but the hilly nature makes the course a real challenge. Several tee shots are over steep valleys and the ball seldom finishes on flat fairway. Green levels are often quite hard to read. It is set in a very attractive public park and dog walkers can be a nuisance sometimes.
Great value for money!
To be honest when I paid £9 for the round I was expecting it to be a pretty basic course but I was pleasantly surprised. The off course amenities were pretty basic but I play for the course so I wasn't bothered by this! Although it is a short course (par 68) it seems to play longer as its very hilly. The hazards are well placed and not too difficult and the course itself is very well kept. After the round we went into the club shop and the staff seemed very knowledgeable. My only complaint is because it is public land there was a lot of dog walkers and there was a bit of dog poo around, but if people cleaned up after their dogs that would not be an issue! I think this course is great value for money and I will be visiting again and would recommend it, especially to beginners.
