Great Course but be warned!

Course was in great condition! Greens are very well kept. In a four ball with four 25 year olds and we struggled to walk the course. Be warned, i would recommend a buggy!

Extremely odd place

This was my second time playing this course. The course itself is incredibly quirky almost links like with the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The green quality was overall decent and a stretch of holes on the back nine were the highlight.

My issues with this course

1: There is no pro-shop, so you can't purchase balls, tees etc..

2: The bar/clubhouse was locked shut on arrival, so we didn't even need to book the round in.

3: The members clocked that we were visitors and constant chatter in the car park and tee we could over hear about guests not being welcome and shouldn't be there on saturday mornings, so why is the club putting times on golfnow? Not exactly the most welcoming experience. Although a member did allow me his card to use the toilet in the changing rooms.

4: Plenty of holes are blind tee shots where you have no idea where to hit or go without course knowledge. You can also be punished for good shots, especially in the summer months.

Overall its a very different offering to what you would usually get in the area, but I don't think I would be returning unless desperate for a tee time.

Really difficult 1st time playing here by myself

Entered the course with sign saying beware of golfers playing across road, 1st hole thought I hit a decent shot only to be told I had nearly hit someone playing the third green , I had no idea where the 1st green was, this was the case on many occasions had to ask someone 3 times where certain tee boxes were, also hardly any greens were visible from the tees so you really had no idea what was waiting for you when hit your drive, now the good bits greens in excellent condition Also the tee boxes were good, I would imagine after you have played it a few times it is great , but a bit scary 1st time on your own

Slow play on interesting course

Waited every hole on the back 9 being 2 groups behind a 5 ball, who thinks it’s acceptable to play in 5 balls? The last 2 holes clearly visible to everyone in the club house and the 5 ball still played in while we waited on the 17th tee yet again!

Pity because it’s a good little test with some great holes.

Great course l,very undulating

First time playing here, great course and really enjoyed it. Very undulating with a few blind holes. Quite physically demanding but worth it for how beautiful the course looked.

A hidden gem

What a course this is. From hole layouts to condition of the greens - it is superb.

My only issue is having never played the course, there is a blind shot on 14/15 hole’s without guide markers on all but 2 holes. However, it made for exciting tee shots or the next into the greens.

Absolutely loved it and will be returning soon.

Last tip - get a trolley. Carrying was very tough for my playing partner

Course was okay greens a little variable

Tough first time as blind to green for a lot of holes

Clubhouse confusing and access very restricted

Yet you cannot change your shies in the car park

Very odd

Staff mostly absent and no pro shop

Odd given the cost and apparent club standards

It is fair to say that they are a members club not really geared or welcoming of visitors.

Shame it does bring in revenue.

Atherstone is a great members golf course in a little need of TLC generally but for the price we paid and the clubhouse atmosphere it’s really good value.
