Great course with some fantastic holes, greens are spot on.. probably in my top 3 courses around the Midlands
Challenging
3rd time of playing here. A great and challenging course, lots of blind greens and thought is needed for ball placements. Never too busy too date. Great scenery and views and excellent value for money.
Just be aware this is an exceptionally hilly course, more than any I have ever experienced. It seems buggies are only available for members so be warned.
There is no pro shop or reception as such and the changing rooms require a code to enter that I still have not been able to get anyone to share with me after 3 visits so changing shoes et cetera is in the car park for visitors.
Lovely, well managed course. Fantastic view, keeps you on your toes as if you go left or right you may lose your ball . Just needs less hills lol
Weird experience
Arrived at Atherstone, looks like a nice course. The course does not appear to have a pro shop. We entered the only open door and was greeted nicely by a guy who could tell we were new. I assume a member. He asked us to walk in and he'd get the guy to check us in, so we did. The chap checking us in immediately noted our golf clean golf shoes and absolutely lost his marbles. "Get out!" "Sorry you've got to leave!" even as we were walking to the door he continued to lose his mind. Very peculiar. Nowhere clearly stated for check in. And probably a good job a member was there to show us to the chef. I have been to 50+ courses in the UK and never seen anything like it, to not have a pro shop OR spike bar is very odd, as is checking in with the chef...
Anyway, outside of this weird interaction, everyone seemed nice. Members very friendly. Tough course, lots of hills, blind shots. Greens a bit bobbly but OK for £25.
Well kept secret !
I’d never really heard of this course before playing today, a very tough test of golf that requires the use of all clubs in the bag. Premium on accuracy rather than length although there are quite a few testing long par fours !
Well kept and greens were deadly quick but very true. I immediately went home to check the membership price and if my back and legs hold out I will be becoming a member shortly!
Thanks to the pro for taking the time to make sure we knew our way round the course as it would be easy to get lost !
Try this hidden gem I’m sure you will enjoy it
Atherstone first 18 holes
First time playing the course. Staff were okay when they could be found.
No particular help with the course layout.
Found the course to be very difficult, a lot of blind greens… when you take fairway shots you have no idea where your ball has landed… extremely rough with long grass just s few metres from the greens… no way of knowing where your ball landed.
Spent a lot of time looking for balls, thankfully no one behind me so didn’t cause slow play.
May pjsy again if price is oksy.
Great course
Wow what a lovely course will defo be backrse, 1 of the best I've played, challenging tho,
Top course
Nice course, in the middle of nature, not an easy one.
Awesome
Played today, best course I’ve played on, better than the PGA at the Belfry, just a couple of little gripes, poorly sign posted for next T, and the distance between some of the greens and next T, didn’t spoil things for us though, will be going again 😁
Awesome Atherstone ✅✅
What a course. Really enjoyed it. Very naturally presented. You feel as though you are playing on fairways just as nature designed them. Yet it’s plays like a thoroughly modern course. Despite it being spring it was well presented and will be even better in summer. A couple of holes have really special feel about them. On the negative side, there are plenty of blind shots both off the tee and approaches, tricky if it’s your first time and you’re playing alone! And a couple of holes don’t flow naturally from green to next tee and could do with some clearer/better signing. But those are minor gripes. Atherstone is awesome. And the folks are friendly too. Go play it
Thank aware
With no prior warning, has 5 holes been close, and one on a temporary it was not enjoyable at all
Popular
Very popular place to play golf has lots of visitors and members very challenging course looking forward to playing this course again
Unfortunate
I booked Atherstone because my mate told me he was keen to play it. I got what I thought was a Hot Deal, £19 for 18 holes! What I didn’t know was that 6 holes on the course were closed for maintenance.
Now I know it’s possible to play some holes twice but I’m not sure that is a fair response!
The other issues with the course were how frozen the greens were which made it impossible to play directly on to them which makes the game ridiculous and also the volume of leaves in ditches around the course. I know all mature courses suffer with leaf fall but most courses make an effort to clear them so that it is possible to find your ball if you inadvertently hit into a ditch. Overall a disappointing outing but I’d like to try it again later in the year
