Bargain if you get hot deal.
Absolutely stunning course, not for the faint hearted.
This is a real test of your golfing ability. Some wide fairways but needed as this course is far from flat, be prepared for ball above and below your feet.
A really enjoyable game of golf.
Well marked out course
Fairways are very rough looking, greens are very bobbly, Course layout is superb, well posted for next hole, paths need sorting out,
£30 a round is a bit steep in the condition the course is in
Tough round of golf
Hardest course we have played all year and when I say hardest I mean the ground was very hard as it’s really suffering with this summers long drought. With the course being so hilly and apart from one fairway being devoid of grass, keeping the ball in play is challenging.
There are too many blind shots for my liking and even one of the Par 3’s you cannot see the green or even the flag from the tee.
In these conditions you get unfairly punished for even a good shot. The 2nd hole a Par 3 being a good example. Hit it to back of green, hit what looked a lovely chip to finish within a couple of feet for a par putt, only to see the ball after having virtually stopped then gather momentum roll off the front of the green and come to rest 70 yards away!
Met some members on the course who were very helpful directing us to next tee as some were not obvious to us first timers. Some of the walks between green and tee are longer than a Par 5!
I’m sure the course will improve after it’s had some rain and we may well go back to play it then, as there are some great holes here, but current conditions prevent you enjoying them.
Good friendly clubhouse, although you need to know the number to the combination lock to get in.
Unique almost links style course
Would definitely play this again, and feel like I could knock 10 shots off having more course knowledge. It’s a short course but challenging if you don’t know where you’re going.
It is the hilliest course I’ve ever played, probably too many blind shots and hard to know where to hit the ball… we hit some centre of the fairway that rolled off to nearly out of bounds due to severity of slopes and dry conditions.
Great
Played it last Thursday really hot luckily we had a buggy all 4 of us are in our 70s so don't think we could walk it saying that we had a great day friendly club with a bar for afters well worth a visit
Great day out
Last played Athersone abou 20 years ago and forgot what a tough course it was . Every hole seemed to be uphill and tight fairways. These were all very dry due to the heatwave but the greens were in great condition.
Staff in the clubhouse were very friendly.
Overall a great afternoon’s golf.
Strange course
Course is scorched due to heat wave, nearly every shot is blind of the tee and in some cases second shot as well.
All fairways run in one direction so even if you hit a perfect shot and land in the fairway you run off in to the trees.
The strangest course I have ever seen but will not return in a hurry
Blind shots
Too many holes where you have a blind tee shot, or even the second shot. Very hilly would recommend a buggy.
Hard but interesting
It was a challenging course as it’s quite up and down but it also has some interesting holes. Worth a go
Fantastic variety of holes in a lovely setting
Wonderful setting with some very challenging holes. Quite a long walk in the woods in between some holes .Manicured greens that were very well maintained were a pleasure to play on.
Excellent course
What a great course. We played on a sunny Saturday afternoon and the course was in excellent condition. The greens were fast and ran very true. The staff very very friendly as were the other members we met. The course is not long but this pis offset by the changes in elevation. If your in the area I would highly recommend a visit.
Well worth checking out
I've been to this course several times and always enjoyed it, greens we're faboulus almost like Astro turf hole 4 always puts a smile on my face cus all I can think about is mountain goats lol
Enjoy
Blind and hilly
A LOT of blind shots and doglegs. If you don't know the course it is very frustrating.
Take the buggy option. It is very hilly with long treks between holes.
Hidden Gem
Friendly reception from both staff and members. Cracking course, greens challenging but ion great condition. Definitely playing here again. Nice clubhouse, good looking food and the Guinness is superb!
Course great clubhouse terrible
Played here about 10 times in the last couple of years. If it is purely golf you want then that's great, mature course well kept greens especially nice, tee boxes out of use currently but that's fine as its November.
The clubhouse is particularly terrible. Not once have I had a positive experience, ranging from
- can't even get in as the doors are locked
- lights all off at 4pm staff waiting to go home
- staff eating lunch behind the bar on several occasions
- £1 charge to use your debit card
- not welcoming or helpful staff in any way
It won't stop me playing the course as its beautiful but I prefer an all round experience.
