Amazing Design, Average Quality
First time playing the course and I was sceptical with rounds being offered as low as £10 on a Sunday without any hot deal bonus.
Upon arrival we were greeted and given a course explanation and a brief history of the course which was a nice touch. The Clubhouse was clean and tidy and a pint was only £4!, no complaints reallt other than the driving range attached to the ground didn't open until 9am due to staffing issues.
The course itself was fantastically designed, it was long and challenging but completely flat. There were 52 bunkers, well positioned to add to difficulty and some well thought out treelines and other natural hazards to make you consider your club off the tee.
We paid £20 for our round and I think I'll some it up by breaking down the quality v design by saying at least £15 of that would be towards the design and only £5 toward the course maintenence.
There didn't appear to be fairways, just a steady 1st cut around the full 18, and the tee boxes (not in use) and greens really needed some TLC, with a proper injection of funding and resource this course could easily be charging around £40/50+ a round.
All in all a really enjoyable round, would definitely recommend to others and will be heading back soon, really liking forward to a summer round at Boothferry to see if they address some of the quality concerns with the change in conditions.
Boothferry golf course
Lovely golf course challenging well looked after staff very friendly and was made very welcome I will be playing again very soon
Nice Course
Staff let us go off first and as a two ball were round in just over 3 hours.
Course was good for time of year and the weather we have had.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Really enjoyable day.
Well worth a trip.
As mentioned by other reviews some greens and tees were needing some attention but cost needing and my son 10.00 pound each, good staff on site.
It is a long course in parts so not one for a raw beginner but very good value.
Well worth the trip
Course playing well and a decent challenge.
great course long and flat, couple of the greens were patchy and cracked but what do you expect for £13 and the weather we have had,.Staff are friendly and pace of play was good will definitely play there again
Disappointed and saddened
Played this course many times over the years and always enjoyed the challenge and course conditions...how things have changed, course layout is still an enjoyable challenge but the tees and greens were shockingly bad. I understand we have had exceptionally dry weather but they were in terrible condition and to be quite honest looked like they had lost 7 or 8 of the greens...got back to the clubhouse after our round gagging for a drink to find nobody about and the bar closed. Young lady who booked us in was very nice and chatty, probably the only positive from our visit....very saddened to see such a lovely course going to rack and ruin.
Enjoyable Day with Old Friends
Course location ideal for me travelling from Leeds and my friends travelling from Hull. Teed off at 12:40 on Sat 6th August and although behind a society we were not held up in anyway. Course had been set up with some very challenging pin positions (I understand that the club had been playing a scratch competition) mostly behind green side bunkers which made scoring very difficult. I play off single figures but my 2 playing partners are both occasional golfers playing to ~ 28. The course layout and conditions suited us all however and we had a very enjoyable round finishing in just under 4 hours. The layout is such that when missing the fairways you find your ball (exception being the 9th when my partner hit it right out of bounds) but are punished by virtue of generally having trees in your way so you have to play a percentage shot and get the ball back onto the fairway. A minor criticism would be the inconsistency of sand in the bunkers and that the bar shut at 5pm when I believe it was advertised that it stayed open until 6. Overall however very happy and will no doubt return again at some point next year.
Members issue
Good until we quickly caught upto a slow 4 ball who clearly had no intention of letting us play through. 2nd time this has occurred on this course. Ignorant members and no knowledge of current rules,
Nice course ,ignorant members
I had to walk off the course half way through ,I got stuck behind an incredibly slow group with no-one in front of them for at least 2 holes ,who refused to let me play through because they were members
Just pure ignorance
Poor condition
I suppose you get what you pay for, good layout but condition of the course was very poor, greens were shocking and the fairways just as bad, a bit more course management and it would be better, also no trolleys available after I had phoned ahead to confirm availability.
Mixed feelings about this course
I played Boothferry as I am playing it in a competition later in the year. I thought the layout of the course was excellent and the quality of the holes was good, however I am not sure if the course ins on its way out but the course conditions were really poor and the whole course has a rundown appearance. Greens were poor and the fairways were poorly prepared and manicured. It needs a lot of money invested but believe I has the potential to be one of the best courses in the area.
