A grand day out
I last played this course more than 20 years ago but couldn’t have picked a better day for my return. Sun shining, light breeze, and though the course was dry, preferred lies were the order of the day. My two companions had never played the course before but both came away impressed and up for a return visit in the very near future. Winter tees were still in use though the winter greens were no longer in play. The course offers a variety of challenges for all levels of ability and was remarkably well presented given the time of year and it’s location in the far north of England. Time pressures meant we were unable to visit the clubhouse but all in all a grand day out.
Nostalgia
Played this course many yeas ago when I was fortuntate to have won a work organised tournament that day and so, now in my later years, decided to re-live those memories, (if not my score !). The staff and members were very helpful, welcoming and friendly.
For this time of year the course was in excellent condition mainly due to the obvious care and attention afforded to it by the green staff and members. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will certainly visit again myself some day.
Winter greens
Unknown to us the first 9 holes were on winter greens which were in poor condition. The back nine holes on normal greens and were very good. Played off mats on majority of tees, also mats used on the fairways when within 50 to 150 yards to the greens.
Great Course
Great and well maintained course with very friendly staff, will definitely play here again.
A hidden gem
A great course, unfortunately on the day we played, there was some serious course maintenance and tree felling going on, do we had to play a couple of temporary greens and the par 3's we had to tee off mats. But this didn't detract from the excellent day we had.we will definitely be returning to this course again.
Great
I was previously a member here and can’t rate high enough and having been fitted for golf clubs a lot of times the pro here (james) is as good as it gets
Friendly Course
Great course, friendly staff and members. Quite an easy forgiving course with 6 par 3’s 4 of which are very short. Took exactly 3 hours for our 2 ball to play the round and we tee’d off at 11am. Great value for money, worth a visit.
Refund
Course was closed due to heavy rainfall so could not play.
An inspection was planned for 11:00am our tee time was 08:30 further rain through the day.
Friendly taxing course
The course is in reasonable condition. The greens were OK but not excellent The signage on the course is not good in places so some green to tee transfers can be tricky The staff are friendly and helpful and there is plenty of car park spaces. Definitely worth a visit.
top course
Great course plenty of variation in the holes definitely go back
Very enjoyable
We had an excellent time around this very enjoyable parkland course. A good length, around 6000 yds off the yellow tees, and with a good mix of holes. 6 par 3's, 3 x par 5's, a nice antidote to ever lengthening courses. The mix of lengths kept the round interesting throughout. The greens have some testing slopes but they ran true and at a good pace. They were fun to putt on.
Accuracy off the tee was important, when isn't it?, as the semi made finding your ball difficult. My one criticism would be that was slightly too long as it slowed down play as we looked for balls only just off the fairway. You had to be directly over your ball to find it.
Clubhouse was old school but friendly and pricing was very reasonable. All in all, I will go back and play here again. I would happily recommend it to others.
Darlington G C
Nice course in good condition, it was wet when we played so looking forward to playing again in the dry.
A note to all golf clubs really, would be to have a single persons buggy hire at £20 as opposed to full hire at £25 which 2 people can do.
