SilverHorn Golf Club of Texas

There is no way I can give Silverhorn a favorable rating because this was a makeup round. The round before this was a disaster because of the way I and my golf buddies were treated. We fully expected them to put their best foot forward because they made mistakes before. I'm sure you have heard the phrase, "when someone shows you who they are believe them". The way we were initially treated is a better reflection of the service we received from Silverhorn. Let me explain. When we finished our round we decided to have lunch. The counter person took our order. When I handed him my money, he placed the change on the counter instead of placing it in my hand the same as I did to him. And when our food was ready he brought the food for my Hispanic friend to the table but called out our order and had us come to the counter for our food. By the way, the rest of us are black. In addition, he brought the food for the customers sitting behind us to their table. By the way, they were white. This is a clear case of racism and should not be tolerated or accepted. There is nothing that Silverhorn can do to make up for this injustice. There aren't enough free rounds in the world to justify their treatment of people of color. Their counterperson's actions were intentional. He knew exactly what he was doing. When I spoke to the manager, he tried to explain that he was the only person taking orders and preparing food and that he was busy. However, he was not too busy to bring completed orders to everyone but the people of color. His actions were unacceptable and in my opinion, he should be terminated. I guess that he has done this before and maybe no one brought it to the attention of the manager. They want our money but will not give us the service as they would anyone else. I am not delusional and I know that racism will continue to exist until there are corrective actions to terminate people who commit such acts.

The bad news first.

I don't know what's going on in the clubhouse but there is a noxious odor (it smells like a sewage overflow) that permeates the entire building. If this is a chronic problem, I would imagine you are losing business. If it's not a continuing problem, I hope it is not present the next time I'm there.

The only other complaint I have is that the course has a lot of hidden quirks that you would only know about after you have played the course a few times. For example, the fact that there is a penalty area that crosses the 17th fairway is shown on a GPS, but what is not shown is the anything within 20 yards of the hazard will slide down the slope into the penalty area.

This isn't something I would expect the course could or would change, and could be overcome by playing the course more often, but it was something I encountered.

The range was not to the level of the course. I would like to see similar conditions to the course on the range.

The practice green was very good, the speed roughly the same as the course itself.

On the upside, the course conditions were excellent. The greens were some of the best I have played in years. They were fast, true, and smooth, just the way greens should be.

The course is interesting and has a variety of shots.

There were very few people on the course, which might have been because I played on a Tuesday afternoon, but I was surprised how few people there were for such a good course in such good condition.

I think if I were living closer to the course (and they did something about the smell in the clubhouse) I would probably seek a membership to this course.

I'm looking forward to playing here again.

This course is in great shape in spite of the amount of play. A testament to Neil, the course Superintendent and his staff. The clubhouse staff is always nice and very customer focused. The food in the bar is excellent. All representative of a great golf club, except for the range which is worse than any public facility in San Antonio. Save the money and wear on your clubs, skip the range. Overall, not a bad experience, but priced too high!

90.00 per person and they don’t offer free range balls or free bottles of water. I’m a twosome member at La cantera for $59.00 during the week and $69.00 weekends they supply range balls, chipping green and separate putting green and to start 2 free bottles of water and they have a Marshall that we saw 4-6 times coming around giving us more free bottles of water b

Always a good track to play. Nice smooth greens, a touch slow. Fairways and rough good shape. Pace of play is haul here. Waiting on most tees but still make it under 2 hrs at the turn.

For $80 there should be a Marshall on the course to help maintain pace of play. And they need to put water back on the course. It’s 96 degrees outside, there is only one cart girl (who did a great job, thank you Alex!) and no water containers. The course is the selling point, the management has problems.

Tough course, great conditioned, good value. You need your best game to be able to play it, which I had!

Course in excellent shape, greens roll true, fairways narrow but excellent condition, trees always in play. Requires precision tee shots.

I arrived very early and told there was little chance to play earlier because I had a Golfnow Hot Deal. I guess that makes me low class. Few people teeing off. I heard a group leaving and saying they were told they could start whenever they wanted. Since I could not start early, I asked about range balls. They do not open range until Noon on Wednesdays - but I could see no irrigating, mowing, etc. Told them they were wasting my time and gave the cart key back and left without playing. They evidently do not understand the concepts of promotion or courtesy. All I got for my money was the lesson to avoid Silverhorn Golf Course, but it is a lesson I will remember.

As it rained the day bevore, it was a little damp. But it was a nice course to play.

Silverhorn is a gem of a course. It’s a decent challenge with tight tree-lined fairways, water and undulation. I was staying on the riverwalk and wanted to play a track with a Hill Country feel that wasn’t too much of a hike - Silverhorn delivered. Course was in excellent condition especially considering the storm from the night before. Great greens, lots of wildlife (can practically pet the deer). My only gripe is that my golf cart was not working properly - I had to hitch a ride back to the clubhouse where instead of giving me a new cart they told me how to try and fix my cart (to no avail). I ended up walking a few holes until they finally brought me a new one. That was frustrating since my tee time had already been pushed back 1.5 hours due to storm repairs.

79.95 for the privilege of playing the course. I will say it’s the best I ever saw the course. But it is not even close to the quarry, the resort course or the Palmer.

All of which give you no cost range balls and at least 2 bottles of water.

The course has the Best manicured Greens in San Antonio. Very nice course!

This course was a pleasant surprise. The greens and fairways were in excellent shape, and there was plenty of shade to keep the sun away. I will definitely come again!
