About
Silverhorn Golf Club of Texas, located only 15 minutes from San Antonio's Riverwalk, has quickly gained a reputation as being some of the best golf in Texas. The layout covers 262 scenic acres of rolling hills covered in mature oaks and cedar trees. The challenging golf course features tree-lined fairways and carefully contoured greens. There are also lakes and creeks, both dry and wet, coming into play throughout the golf course. The front nine's signature hole is the par-5 sixth, which has 20 acres of water bordering the entire left side, while the back nine's signature is the par-4 15th, which is considered the toughest hole on the golf course. This 446-yard hole features an elevated green that is guarded by a large bunker on the left and two creeks crossing the fairway.

No water coolers anywhere
Let's get to the negatives first. This course has no water coolers anywhere. Seeing how hot it gets in the summer in San Antonio, this could be a huge liability for the course. Silverhorn may want to rethink their stance after someone passes out on the course from heatstroke. Another negative is that the golf cars are outdated and have no GPS. Last negative, is that this course is more difficult than it's rating claims it to be, it's real narrow with tight corridors and woods on both sides, especially on the back nine. Now the positives: the course is always in great shape, the greens are pristine and roll very true, immaculate fairwasy, and the pace of play was pretty good. The layout is unique and challenging.

Great course
Very few golfers due to the deluge of rain the previous day... practically had the course to ourselves. A bit muddy but that's to be expected from all of the recent rain. Always fun playing here.

Great Course
Great right course that requires good course management. Greens rolled true. Probably 10-12 on stimp. Could stick a wedge. Good beer cart selection. Will definitely be back.

Service terrible.... Memorial Day Monday.
Memorial Day Monday.. no score cards or water on course (90+ Degrees out)... they say because of “covid”.
Also no cart girl for drinks at all.. have to wait for the turn

Gem in San Antonio
This is a great course that deserves more hype. It's in great shape, it's a challenging course within a great wooden layout. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I need to golf here way more often.

DO NOT PLAY HERE
Silverhorn is always a 5-5:30 hour but today was something special. Two-three groups to a tee box all behind a 5 some playing the tips when they hit 100 yds. Group would not let us play through. After my 3 hour front 9 I went inside to kindly ask for a rain check for the back half of my green fee. I was told no. Rather than endure 3 hours on the back I called it quits and will never visit this course again. I repeat...: 5:30 hour rounds are the norm. For the price you pay for this course you’d expect a Marshall or at the very least some customer service.

Great course extremely slow play
Marshall is definitely needed. A bunch of slow players not keeping pace. Spending 20 to 26 minutes per hole. Had to skip 2 holes due to slow play. There are groups of 5 and 6 players playing. Other than that greens are slow and course is good.⁸

Very good course but has become too expensive.
Silverhorn is consistently is a course that is one of the best maintained public courses in San Antonio. Although it suffered some damage from the severe winter storm in February, all in all the course was in good shape. The price to play it however has become quite steep. They no longer offer a senior discount, the general rate to play it has increased by about 50% over what it was a little over a year ago, they no longer provide jugs filled with drinking water on the course, they no longer provide scorecards but force you to use an app on your phone (which is very difficult when playing various betting games), and no longer have a course rating and slope as they dropped out of the Texas Golf Association. All in all it is a fine course that has now fallen down the list of courses with among the best value in San Antonio. We have cut back our play on this course significantly for other better values in the SA area.
