About
Silverhorn Golf Club of Texas, located only 15 minutes from San Antonio's Riverwalk, has quickly gained a reputation as being some of the best golf in Texas. The layout covers 262 scenic acres of rolling hills covered in mature oaks and cedar trees. The challenging golf course features tree-lined fairways and carefully contoured greens. There are also lakes and creeks, both dry and wet, coming into play throughout the golf course. The front nine's signature hole is the par-5 sixth, which has 20 acres of water bordering the entire left side, while the back nine's signature is the par-4 15th, which is considered the toughest hole on the golf course. This 446-yard hole features an elevated green that is guarded by a large bunker on the left and two creeks crossing the fairway.

A Great San Antonio Course
Fairways in Excellent condition, considering the February freeze. Many other courses around town still have dead grass in the fairways, but not here. Great work by the staff to maintain the fairways and greens. Greens were very challenging - fast. This is an overall great course, some very challenging holes.
Pleasantly Surprised
I’d read all the reviews about how a lot the pace of play is, maybe we just got lucky. Never waited on a tee box and had nobody within 2 holes behind us.
The course was in pretty good shape for winterish conditions, greens were excellent. Staff was friendly and really helpful. Range and practice area were well taken care of.

Slow....
First off, this course is a great challenge. Greens are in real good shape. Some fairways are pretty dried out (expected after this winter weather) givin you a really tight lie. I enjoy this course, I usually hit every club in the bag here.
But......
For the love of all things golf, if your handicap is above a 12 or you regular score is in the high 80’s, 90’s, DO NOT play the Championship tees! Play the regular tees and help speed up play! I understand courses get crowded on weekend but there is absolutely no excuse for a 5 hour round. No Marshall on the course to help speed up play.
The course is nice and a great challenge, just get ready for slow play.

played after rain
Enjoy playing this course. We played after rain in the morning making the fairways at times slippery. Greens were slow as expected. Once weather warms up fairways will be much more playable. A couple holes will make you rethink using driver even 3wood! Challenging but we played our skill level rather than our "ego" level!

Solid golf course, lots of fun
The course was well kept and a real winter golf treat. Pace of play was slower, mostly due to the influx of less-experienced golfers. Nonetheless, our twosome finished 18 holes in 3hr22m. Pro tip: download the SilverHorn golf app before you go for GPS and a scorecard. They did not offer paper scorecards. It's a definite play and would recommend this course to any golfer.

Shocked at this day today
Somebody decided to push my tee time back behind by 2 groups to pair me up with a twosome (I’m a single). That wasn’t so bad except they knowingly put our threesome behind a group of 5.. it took 40 minutes to play the first 2 holes... a 5+ hour round round that could have been easily avoided by managing tee times more efficiently... thankfully the beverage cart girl was friendly and on point

Good value and layout
Silverthorn was in good winter shape and it was a very enjoyable round. Pace of play was slow, even with an organized and spaced length between foursomes. Back nine is tighter than the front, and challenging layout overall. Solid value in San Antonio.
I’m old school, and believe that there are only a few places left for solitude- planes and golf courses. Guys who can’t stand to be away from loud music while golfing need to stuff some AirPods in their ears and let others play in peace.

Playing Alone
I had an opportunity, accidentally, to play eighteen holes alone, and I loved it! In this time of COVID-19, folks are playing in high numbers, so three- and foursomes are common. But on this day virtually no one was on the course in the afternoon.
Since I don’t like being in competition and prefer to be a solitary duffer golfer, this was the perfect experience for me.
I love this course for its layout and general beauty, and “visiting” with the wildlife is salutary!
I shall be very glad when the weekday demand for rounds of golf diminishes as we achieve “ herd immunity” to COVID so that I might play alone more often.
