No matter how cheap don’t waste your money
Whilst I can’t specifically review the back nine, this is because I walked off the course thanks to how poor an experience the front 9 was. I have never walked off a course before in my life.
Despite the round only costing £15 it still feels like a robbery.
A few points:
Poor general course condition with no consistency. It looks like no maintenance has taken place.
Fairways alternately bare or lush.
Greens like putting on your back lawn.
Zero navigation signs between holes.
Numerous blind tee shots with no (barring the 1st) fairway poles to guide you.
All of this made worse by the fact that the card collected from the pro shop before was ‘home’ printed with no course map for reference.
I urge you to spend the extra £3-5 and play one of the other (better) courses in the area even if they are a longer journey to get to. Or if not, go to a driving range.
Green spoiled a good day
Played here a few times last year thought I'd give it a go again but never again greens were terrible worse I've ever played on . To say that the course has been close due to covid they should be in better condition
Narrow fairways
This course is challenging for a beginner like myself. The fairways are narrow, if you occasionally shank the tee shot, you will end up on another fairway. Not for the unfit due to the hills. Would recommend the course we teed off at 1pm, £15 each can’t grumble for that price. Can’t rate amenities due to current covid restrictions. Members were standing round drinking cans so course etiquette not as website suggests.
Great Fun
Yes it is winter, yes it was my groups first time and it was ended early by fog but what a fun golf course, with some great amenities and views.
The course itself is quite tricky on its opening holes and we didn't get to play final 3 due to extreme fog but had a great laugh and enjoyed it nonetheless.
The only real criticism would be the lack of direction for tee boxes and their proximity to the prior greens being a little too close for comfort and that the wasn't a single rake near a bunker which I found very odd (but with public access I guess they do go missing.
As a threesome with my wife we did struggle on occasions to find her tee and that slowed play a little as scorecards were just printout cards and had to rely on GPS app for basic hole and tee direction. I would recommend a cart or a half bag carry as the decent and ascent of certain holes is quite taxing.
Greens were in good condition considering weather and course was challenging and enjoyable.
All in all we will probably return in the summer to see the rest of it.
I’ve played this course a couple of times previously and decided to make a return trip, on arrival the course looked ok after the amount of bad weather we’ve had over the last few days, however when starting to play the course it’s not well looked after anymore, tee boxes and fairways are over grown and looked and felt like playing out of the rough and the greens are patchy and pins are cheap plastic poles
testing course
Very hilly course, so take a buggy if you aren't fit. Hilly makes this the interesting and testing course it is. Views are outstanding and this helps make a round here very enjoyable. Fairways good but greens could be better. testing holes and not just the regulation up down of some courses. Very enjoyable round although I played rubbish!!!!! Recommend to anyone who likes something different. Staff helpful
Good course, great views
This is a hilly course and although not long it certainly has its challenges. The fairways are in great condition and greens are recovering from the damage caused by last summer’s drought. The views towards Worcestershire and Shropshire are spectacular.
SHOCKING GREENS
The course is just in a really poor state.
greens with huge bare patches with no intention for them to be repaired.
What is the greenskeeper doing ??
Hidden Gem
Undulating course with good fairways and tree lined. Some problems with the greens but the staff are sorting things out and will soon be back on great nick.
Good test of golf
Great Views
This course has potential but needs investment. Greens poor but appreciate lack of rain but other courses in much better condition. You need a buggy or face a hard walk.
Appalling Greens
Due to the heatwave we have experienced recently I expected the fairways to be scorched and brown which they were. However, I did not expect the greens to be in such appalling condition. They were very dry, patchy, uneven and resembled those that you would find at a very poor seaside pitch and put course. All other courses that I have played during the last few weeks had similar fairways but greens that had been watered and played nearly as true as ever. (If there was a watering problem we should have been advised and given the option of cancellation).
Having played this course, and enjoyed it, on numerous previous occasions the course is looking a bit run down is showing a lack of maintenance around it - many of the ditches which cross the course were overgrown with weeds.
On such a hot day a drink in the clubhouse would have been welcome but despite it only being 2:30 the bar was closed.
In conclusion I feel that, mainly, due to the state of the greens the course was not “fit for purpose” and was poor value for money. I could not recommend it the way it is at present.
Hole in one
On a cold blustery morning, this was a really enjoyable round of golf. We didn’t have to wait at a single hole and we didn’t need to rush as it seemed we had the course to ourselves. The course itself was in very good condition except for layer of leaves... but that would be the same for most golf courses at this time of year.
Unique
Really enjoyed playing here today. The club shop is located at the back of the main building. No problems. Course map was available seperate to scorecard.
Nice wide fairways. Unique hilly holes that challenged my chipping and lob shots. Im beginning to enjoy my golf, not yet broke 100 but not far off it! and this test I will take with me onto other courses.
Judging distance to the holes takes getting used to because of the micro flags, but the greens were well kept.
Definitely return one day.
Views of Dudley Castle at one point too. Lovely
The Honest Review
First question for you, ever wanted to golf around the malvern hills? look no further. This place is like the Himalayan mountains. as for course layout, id rather drive a moped through mumbai at rush hour. awful, no map of the holes on either scorecard or tee box. The greens are uneven and run slower than the fairways! about as smooth as a marlboro red from the 1960's. the staff are sound, no qualms there. Priced at 22.00 i was disappointed to find the flag sticks looked like they were fashioned from old kitchen mops with a linesman flag stuck on the top. extremely hard to judge distance when the flag is shorter than ronnie corbet, real off putting when attacking the green. the speed of play was slow. took us close to 5 hours to complete 18 holes. wouldn't go back myself, but if you looking for a nock at short notice, crack on. personally id rather light a 20 on fire.
Worst course ever!
Well.... where can i start. I arrived at the course around the 20 minute mark before I was set to tee off. WHERES THE PRO SHOP? I thought. After a while I managed to track the 'pro shop' (aka shack) to the rear of the building. Bearing in mind there was no signs etc which indicated where it was. No dramas thoughs, as I was able to tee off on time, over looking the scenic view of dudliee.
The presentation of the course to start off with seemed rather moderate until I encountered something very unusual on a golf green... a dwarf flag!!
Maybe someone has taken the missing practice putting green flags and relocated them on the course as a joke... NO every hole is planted with them. To make it harder, the flags seem to get smaller the further we got around the course. little did I know the flags would be the least of my worries... Its Flying golf balls from other players which concerned me the most as 1/5 tees overlap each other. I finally made it to the 10th without being killed. Hang on what have they used for white markers? Oh no not cut up bits of skirting board!
Tbh if I pay £22.00 for a round of golf, I'm not expecting Augusta but please if they are called greens, I would imagine them to be GREEN not brown.
On the plus side I had a nice glarssss of coke with ice to finish but please sort this poor excuse of a golf course out!
Good afternoon's golf
First time playing the course and had heard that it was very hilly. There are a couple of steepish fairways but nothing exceptional and the interesting terrain made for a course that you need to think your way around. Fairways in excellent condition but some of the greens were patchy and uneven.
Staff were very friendly and helpful but the bar is little dated and had run out of most of it's beer!
I wouldn't hesitate to play the course again particularly at £12 per round.
A Very Hilly Challenge
A very picturesque course with some fantastic views. Without a buggy it's a decent workout with rolling hills and steep slopes.
Overall the course and greens are in good condition.
A few of the tee boxes cross over fairways and greens so be aware of wayward shots.
Members and staff are extremely welcoming and polite.
A good challenge for all levels and Handicaps.
And very good value for money.
I did not use the indoor facilities so can't make comment on those.
Hard but fun
Played this course now 3 times and enjoyed ever round, very good course and well looked after, a couple of geeens need a bit of work on but still great value for money
