Interesting course

Played this in April. Dry conditions with little wind. The course has narrowish fairways, quite a lot of out of bounds and lots of bunkers. The terrain is undulating with quite a few blind teeshots.

It is a course that constantly makes you think and question what shot to play next. This is added to by the number of holes where too long an approach to the green ends up in big trouble. Playing it again would prompt a different strategy on quite a few holes and might result in even more problems. I think this equates to good design.

As you might expect from a hotel course, pace of play was not fast. The condition of the course was just OK. Fairways were definitely emerging from a hard, wet winter and were a bit threadbare. Greens were very slow although true. Staff nothing more than average. Buggy cost of £25 seemed steep to me.

On Line Booking

Booked on line and was surprised to find that we were double booked

The staff "fitted us in" and we found little or no delay nor did we feel we were slowing the play from behind

The course was busy but perhaps because of the amount of par 4's there did not seem to have any problem with delay

the Course itself was excellent and my colleague was full of admiration and looks forward to his next opportunity to play

I am still a relative beginner but found the fairways very forgiving and greens excellent

Very Enjoyable Round

We turned up to play for a tee off time at 3.24pm and was able to tee off without any delay.

I have played at most courses in Norfolk bar a few, and have always considered Dunston Hall as one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf. The course layout is very good with it being a reasonably mature course. There is a lot of water on the course, but this is set out in a way that isn't too challenging. Most of your approach shots will fall short of the water, with a satisfying chip onto the green to follow.

The water makes the course very eye pleasing, and an enjoyable walk.

The greens were immaculate when we played, but my only niggle that I would have is the strips of newly turfed grass that runs down the fairways. These were quite large ridges that often run the full length of the fairway on the some of the holes. Meaning a perfectly placed drive, if unlucky enough, could potentially see you in the rough. This is only on a small number of holes, and didn't prove a problem for us (we didn't need the help of the ridges to land the ball off the fairway haha).

Overall, a brilliant round of Golf, in a lovely setting. I will be back.

Decent course

Challenging course with some beautiful features. Was empty mid week. It was my first time playing this course and won't be the last. A few problems though; the staff weren't very friendly. There was also no mention of temporary greens and people were aloud to play in tracksuit bottoms and tshirt. For such a lovely course I feel it is selling itself short with these small things.
