Poor greens
Played this course over 20 years ago and I recall that the greens were poor, fast forward 20 years and unfortunately the greens hadn’t improved, admittedly they might claim that they had been doing recent hollow tyning but if so it is the only course in the area that I have played that has.
It will probably be another 20 years before I would return
A glorious day for golf!
We got a good Tee time(13:00hrs) which suited my partner as he works(but can escape early on Fridays).
The conditions were good. The sun shone. There was some wind later. The greens were running true. My partner was hitting them in from distance(I managed a few lipped putts). Our scores were good. Better than the last round. The virus makes using the Bar facilities an issue but others seemed to be okay(and Social distanced). We will be back soon!!
Forest of Galtres
Enjoyable as usual - the golf shop let me tee off early so that I could get away and play a nicely paced round.
Great course
This was the first me and my son have played this course, I must say I’m very impressed with the course.
Nice to finally play on greens with the same consistency and feel throughout the 18 holes even though they had been sanded a few day prior, the fairways are cut to a very high standard.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone who fancy a great day of golf with some challenging holes, definitely planning on returning again.
A great course for beginners to mid-handicappers
If you are looking for a moderate challenge without the prospect of losing balls or getting frustrated then this is a great course to play. It is long, and when we played it was windy. The open nature of the course means the wind was a real factor especially as many of the longer holes run into the prevailing westerly. The wind also swirled around on the more heavily tree lined areas. A number of well placed fairway bunkers and pairs of large trees standing sentinel either side of the fairway on some holes means good driving is needed off the tee. A few severe doglegs also means it is not always a driver off the tee are you can go for the Tiger line is you feel confident - good risk and reward. Greens were in good condition, and although just hollow tined played true and were moderately paced. If you have not played there before, be aware that there is a small water hazard running across the 4th that is not shown on the card and is not visible just after the path at about 350 yards so your second will have to clear. This was a very relaxed and enjoyable round, ideal for a new golfer to gain confidence and for a standard golfer to post a good score.
Like this course
Into September the course is still in good condition. Minor criticisms, the fairways could be a little shorter and sand on the greens, but it has to be done. The course played well as did the bacon butty.
Very forgiving course
My first time at this course and was very impressed with the condition of both the fairways and greens. Although the course was relatively busy we were never held up and had a very enjoyable game. We will definitely be back.
Maturing course
Course treelining maturing nicely - 20 years since I was a member. A pleasant easy walk usually quiet - not the hardest of courses for a low handicapper. Some bunkers are out of play due to work being done (?) and of course due to COVID no rakes so expect some dodgy lies. All in all enjoyable - will be back as it is very local.
Galtres in the sunshine
The course, especially the fairways were in beautiful condition. No lost balls just off the fairway!
The bunkers, etc. were affected by Covid-19 rules but it didn't spoil the day.
The green staff were busy but mindful of our playing. They were friendly with a ready smile.
Whilst some play was slow(Fourball playing 9holes). progress was generally good(within expected timeframe).
We played after o/n rain which made putting variable.
The greens were fairly smooth and true.
We plan to return soon.
Flat and open country
My wife and I have played this course before and its never fails to delight. We are both mid handicappers and whilst the course is very flat it has some challenging holes. Anyone who enjoys hammering the ball off the tee will love it as the Fairways are generous. The greens were pretty flat and were in decent condition as were the bunkers. The beauty of this course is its location which is in the middle of some extremely quiet and beautiful Yorkshire Wolds countryside.
Friendly Three ball
Well laid out fairly long course with some challenging holes, generous width fairways with some beautiful oak trees around the course.
Forest of Galtres
Good course, friendly staff - my only critical comment is that the bunkers do not contain enough sand are sometimes unplayable.
