Greens
The greens are genuinely the worst I have ever played on, played on better temporary greens. The rough and fairways need cutting, you shouldnt be losing balls 2 yards off the fairway
Expensive disappointment
We have played this course a number of times, but Sunday was a huge disappointment! The score card was a paper photo copy. The fairways were really over grown and the greens were very patchy and bumpy! We ended up coming off on the 8th hole it was that bad. The 4 ball in front also wouldn’t let us (2 ball) through so it took nearly 3 hours to do 8 holes! Huge disappointment and not worth the money we paid!
Not in good condition lack of investment
Condition of course not good some of which could have been due to weather earlier in the week . But there seems to be a lack of investment and a lack of course management .
Overgrown and waterlogged
Played this course on more than one occasion over the years. But hands down say this is the worst I have ever seen. Looks like it’s shutting down club house was empty practice green is Astroturf it looks like someone has nicked the grass cutter as it’s really overgrown and hard to tell the fairways from the rough. The greens are possibly the worst I have played on for some time very disappointing
Awful condition
Having played this course previously and always enjoyed it have to say the course is in awful condition
The greens are a joke worse than winter greens
Tee boxes were in awful condition
The fairways were totally overgrown and hadn’t been cut for ages
Bunkers were unplayable
In need of a lot of work to get it up to standard
Gone downhill
Just played this course today, I play occasionally here a couple of times a year if that, previous reviews are right. Starts with the awful drive down to the clubhouse full of potholes. Course complete mud bath, waterlogged fairways and greens, greens look like there dying. Lost balls in fairway, presumably buried. Should have been closed.
DO NOT PLAY THIS SHAMBLES OF A COURSE!!
Played here in a society, the greens are an absolute joke, all bunkers were unplayable, Was told afterwards they don’t have green keepers. The owner apparently went out that morning with a bog standard lawn mower and cut a few tee boxes and greens just for our society. The layout gives it big potential however this course just needs to close and become a nature park.
Grange
Course condition was generally poor but the greens were terrible! Not worth paying £10 and feel completely ripped off at £25
Awful
Save your money, or play elsewhere.
The course is on its last legs, greens were dreadful.
Its unlike any other course I’ve played in winter, the course should have been closed on the day we played given its condition.
Played last year in the summer and wasn’t too bad the layout is good and has potential to be a great course.
The course has the potential to be a good course but very run down. not in great condition. Pro shop empty,Bar empty. Could be 100% better
Really Really Poor Greens
If you like your greens to resemble the surface of the moon then have a go on this course. Playing in January, I wasn't expecting miracles but the greens were genuinely the worst I've experienced. I've actually played on better winter greens. Played here in spring and summer and the course was in decent condition. Not sure how them greens will recover for this season.
In need of a lot of TLC
First played this course 20 odd years ago and it was in a lot better condition that it is now. Played it a couple of times recently and it is in awful shape. The road down is littered with severe potholes. The Bunkers had very little sand in them and playing off the fairways was like playing out of the rough anywhere else. The course has also been blighted by off road Motorcyclists. Today wasn’t the best time to play golf and I understand it is winter golf but most of the other courses in the local area are in a lot better condition for the time of the year. It’s a shame but I fear this course is on its last legs unless there is a major improvement
Lovely knock in winter
Cracking round given the conditions. Would of thought the Germans were invading given the lack of signage.
Great Round Game
Played and caddy by my son Francis and we had good game together.
Not bad… needs improvement
A very challenging hilly course. Fairways not really that defined but it is autumn.
The bunkers are rock hard and have been for years, usually full of water.
Greens ok, but bumpy in places.
Friendly staff, but none existent shop - used to be really well stocked with clubs, shoes, clothing etc…
Thank you for your review and I am pleased that you recommend the course, however I am in particular finding it difficult to understand your comments about the bunkers. We have in the last year spent over £10,000 on renovating the bunkers putting new drainage into the bunkers, (we do have half a dozen to finish) and filling them with USGA spec white sand, which even in wet conditions is still reasonably soft. We have recently given the greens their Autumn/Winter feed and raised the cut from 3 to 5mm so until they all reach a uniform 5mm I suppose you may get the odd bobble, there is also the possibility of the odd footprint with them getting more rainfall but generally the greens are in good condition. As you rightly point out it is Autumn and we now only cut and stripe the fairways once a week on a Thursday/Friday for the weekend
NEEDS SOME TLC
Played this a lot in 2021 and it was in great condition couldn’t fault it fairways were cut lovely tee boxes full of grass and greens were rolling smooth and fast , I don’t know what’s gone off since last year but the course condition has really degraded , shame because the course layout it’s self it’s great , with some love it can be great again hopefully when I give it another chance next summer it will have improved
Just as I remembered
This is my childhood course and I remember how challenging it is as a golf course. Definitely a thinkers course with enough trouble to make you play sensibly. As an adult, 25 years since I last played that stands.
But I also as an adult recognise its tired too, drive down to the course is littered with potholes and the greens look like they'd maybe been treated which made them challenging.
If you don't judge a course on its condition its a fantastic course, if you do you'll find issues everywhere. Be the first person.
Decent course
Booked online which is only downfall as one of the four ball cried off so my round cost £40 instead of £20. But, that aside good course and for £20 great value.
Sorry but felt i had to answer this review. We have five greenstaff The greenstaff had been on and cut the greens and tees with Toro triple mowers. The course is very wet at the moment due to the fact that we have recently been covered in 4 inches of snow and it has done nothing but rain since. It is our policy to remain open for people to play if they wish too. i would say that it is common sense to know that any golf course would be very wet at the moment given the prevailing weather conditions
