Really Really Poor Greens
If you like your greens to resemble the surface of the moon then have a go on this course. Playing in January, I wasn't expecting miracles but the greens were genuinely the worst I've experienced. I've actually played on better winter greens. Played here in spring and summer and the course was in decent condition. Not sure how them greens will recover for this season.
In need of a lot of TLC
First played this course 20 odd years ago and it was in a lot better condition that it is now. Played it a couple of times recently and it is in awful shape. The road down is littered with severe potholes. The Bunkers had very little sand in them and playing off the fairways was like playing out of the rough anywhere else. The course has also been blighted by off road Motorcyclists. Today wasn’t the best time to play golf and I understand it is winter golf but most of the other courses in the local area are in a lot better condition for the time of the year. It’s a shame but I fear this course is on its last legs unless there is a major improvement
Lovely knock in winter
Cracking round given the conditions. Would of thought the Germans were invading given the lack of signage.
Great Round Game
Played and caddy by my son Francis and we had good game together.
Not bad… needs improvement
A very challenging hilly course. Fairways not really that defined but it is autumn.
The bunkers are rock hard and have been for years, usually full of water.
Greens ok, but bumpy in places.
Friendly staff, but none existent shop - used to be really well stocked with clubs, shoes, clothing etc…
NEEDS SOME TLC
Played this a lot in 2021 and it was in great condition couldn’t fault it fairways were cut lovely tee boxes full of grass and greens were rolling smooth and fast , I don’t know what’s gone off since last year but the course condition has really degraded , shame because the course layout it’s self it’s great , with some love it can be great again hopefully when I give it another chance next summer it will have improved
Just as I remembered
This is my childhood course and I remember how challenging it is as a golf course. Definitely a thinkers course with enough trouble to make you play sensibly. As an adult, 25 years since I last played that stands.
But I also as an adult recognise its tired too, drive down to the course is littered with potholes and the greens look like they'd maybe been treated which made them challenging.
If you don't judge a course on its condition its a fantastic course, if you do you'll find issues everywhere. Be the first person.
Decent course
Booked online which is only downfall as one of the four ball cried off so my round cost £40 instead of £20. But, that aside good course and for £20 great value.
Could be a great course with TLC
Greeted by an exceptionally grumpy old man, shocking first impressions given we were customers. Practice facilities might aswell be non existent.
Course layout is excellent, some really good thinking holes, plenty of elevation to play with. Reachable par 5’s in 2 for relatively big hitters, some great long par 3’s and a cracking risk reward par 4 with a severe dog leg.
Pace of play was excellent for a Sunday but not surprising given the state of the course, very unkept, greens in poor state but majority of bunkers were good and filled with sand.
Can’t grumble too much given the price paid but £25 a round I would honestly expect better in truth.
We won’t be returning unless there is a significant improvement to the health of the course and it’s seems counterintuitive to be rude to visitors given the club so clearly desperately needs and injection of cash to improve the infrastructure.
Under par
-Let's start with the shop,
Not a lot of choice for anything, from drinks to equipment, shop manager did say it was getting updated are something along these lines.
I have to say he was very helpful and polite, my son need a golf and manager said that he had a few spare if he want to buy one from him which my son did, thank you.
-Course
Not the easiest course to navigate no signage directing you to the 1st tee.
No hole or very few signage at each hole with description.
Greens, looked in good condition despite the hot weather.
Bunkers most are just OK, a few were like concrete.
Fairways, occasionally nice with area rock hard, resent weather does not help.
Bar, never had a drink however, a number of golfers were drinking.
Overall course needs work in areas along with the shop, staff friendly and helpful, would go back in a few years to see any improvements.
Not the best experience
Played this course a couple of times. Theaat time we played we were a little early for our tee off. There wasn't a single golfer around, asked if we could tee off early and was answered by "No, you've not given us any money if you've paid golf now"! We have never had this at any other courses if we're there early. He was rude and abrupt, no wonder there were only about 10 cars in the car park with this welcoming.
The course itself is in need of some tlc. Big holes holes in fairways, not sure if they were bunkers or being made into bunkers, but they were starting to grow weeds in them.
Layout not bad, some interesting holes.
It's a shame as this course could be a great club.
Goodbye to Grange Park
What a disappointing end to what used to be a great course to play.
Tee boxes where terrible all bunkers were GUR? apart from the greens which were average at best you wouldn’t recognise this as a golf course. It’s a shame how the club has declined, the club shop was empty not a glove or ball in sight, it’s obviously struggling to keep itself above water
It’s really sad
Bang Average
I went here thinking it was a well established golf course charging £25+. Some course signs were missing so couldn’t see the hole layout. The reception area for the course was run down and very unwelcoming.
The actual course condition wasn’t all that bad, greens were average/good the tees were fine fairways were well kept considering the heatwave there has been. Few puddles around the greens either where a leaking pipe is or just poor drainage. But for me just an average course, wouldn’t really recommend to a friend as being a good corse to go round.
Nice place, friendly staff greens and fairways in good nick, bunkers unplayable.
The coordinates for apps were all wrong. We couldn't get good yardages on any holes as I am suspecting the layout has changed but the GPS hasn't.
Chronic slow play. We were possibly playing a shot every 5-7 minutes from the 9th which isn't very good for rhythm.
Bottle necking
7 minutes between each tee time. Once we (2ball) got to the 5th. There was a queue of 5x groups….one on the green, one on the fairway. One on the tee. One on the bench (us)And one waiting to come off the 4th
5hr 30 minute round. For us. A 2 ball. Ground was rock solid, tee boxes aren’t flat. The course could be so much better with some tlc and tee times spread further out. Shame. Wouldn’t book it again.
Thank you for your review and I am pleased that you recommend the course, however I am in particular finding it difficult to understand your comments about the bunkers. We have in the last year spent over £10,000 on renovating the bunkers putting new drainage into the bunkers, (we do have half a dozen to finish) and filling them with USGA spec white sand, which even in wet conditions is still reasonably soft. We have recently given the greens their Autumn/Winter feed and raised the cut from 3 to 5mm so until they all reach a uniform 5mm I suppose you may get the odd bobble, there is also the possibility of the odd footprint with them getting more rainfall but generally the greens are in good condition. As you rightly point out it is Autumn and we now only cut and stripe the fairways once a week on a Thursday/Friday for the weekend
