Really enjoyed my first round here. 8 of us attended with handicaps ranging from 10 to 40. Everyone enjoyed the day, the course is good for golfers of all abilities, open enough should you be wayward off the tee but some tight pin positions on some smallish greens. The wind helped make it more of a challenge as well and pleasantly surprised with the courses condition to say it was early April and I imagine it wouldn't have had a huge amount of greenstaff working on it due to covid restrictions. Will definitely visit again as excellent value for money
Great Value
For £11 per player including the booking fee what’s not to like!? It’s not the most challenging course, plenty of short par 4’s and accessible par 5’s presenting birdie chances and the par 3’s are not overly challenging. The course conditions are not bad, greens roll pretty true, fairways nicely manicured and tee boxes are OK, bunkers not the best and inconsistent, but for £11 - well worth playing, no need to be a golf snob about the condition and the layout as the cost outweighs the negatives.
It Should be 5 stars all round
The only flaw and I am sure in the drier months isn’t a flaw is the conditions of the fairways after bad weather. The fairyways were so water logged attempting to Hit the ball off them resulted in either being covered in mad or the ball not travelling very far.
Disappointed....
I'll start by saying that I have played here many times and have always found it to be a great course and great value.
That said, I played yesterday and was shocked at the state of the course. It was a mud bath and virtually unplayable.
I'm amazed they allowed the course to be open, to be honest.
The greens were in very good condition but Christ knows how you are supposed to get to them with how wet and sludgdy the fairways were. Even fairway woods were digging down.
To give you an idea, when I arrived I was told it was carry only. No trolley even with hedgehogs,
I know it has been raining but even so......
On the plus side, I only paid a tenner but had had enough by 15 and walked off coated in mud.
Poor
Can’t do much about the weather, but what you can do is try to protect the fairways, paths.. anywhere on the course! Was like playing through a ploughed field at times, which made for an eventful yet disappointing round.
Shame because the layout and the grassy knolls are a really striking look. Could be great with better management.
Love it
3rd time I've played here and I love it more each time
Parkland delight
Great parkland course with good views. Greens quite fast and firm. Easy for the ball to bounce through.particularly with a tail wind - must work on my back spin!
Due to covid restrictions the bunkers are best avoided. Sometimes difficult to find your ball in the rough and if goes in the deep rough don't bother to try.
Finally be careful in the car park there are some deep potholes.
A good find
Really enjoyed course, very friendly.
Green quite tricky but all in all good value .
Fantastic value
This course is fast becoming my favourite. Beautiful fairways and greens and easy on the pocket! Planning a return very soon
Wow!
Excellent value particularly for weekend! Very fair course with excellent greens! I will definitely be back!
South Chesterfield
Brilliant golf course, great layout of holes. Greens were excellent and all ran true. Friendly staff in pro shop. I can't comment on the bar, because I didn't use it. Even though it rained all the round, didn't spoil the afternoon. I intend to revisit, definitely worth playing this course.
Etiquette Non Existent
There were SO many groups on the course it was clear that people just turned up and played without booking (members?!). We had a group tee off 2 mins before our tee time. It made the pace of play horrendous and as we all know waiting around to play shots is not a thing golfers enjoy., Not only that. a group of 4 just joined in at the 10th in front of us which killed the pace of play even more. Then a ball landed in between us whilst waiting on a tee without anyone shouting - dangerous! Add to that each green seemed to have about 10-20 pitch marks not repaired made it feel like it was a course not well kept. Guess you get what you pay for?! Would rather pay £20 and go elsewhere next time.
