Halifax golf club
Cracking course a great test for any level of golfer, greens and fairways were in great condition staff were friendly as were the members overall spot on day recommend anyone should try this course
Course Managment is the name of the game!
1st time playing Halifax GC, the weather was poor (mist and a pretty constant drizzle) and the fairways were very wet, the greens on the other hand were true and surprisingly fast. You really have to think your way around this course, you can use your driver but with caution, I’m not the longest hitter but even I ran out of fairway on a few of the holes. Some of the holes up top will offer stunning views (we couldn’t even see the wind turbines when we were up there) but fortunately we had a small respite when we arrived at the 17th! What a hole!
If I had any criticism, as a 1st time player, our group struggled a bit with where we were supposed to be going (no real signage) but because it was a poor day and the course was quiet we had time to figure it out. (maybe it was just us). This in no way would put me off returning back, but hopefully in better weather.A fine course and a definite challenge.
The Essence of Golf
Having researched the course before play, I had high expectations for the day - and I wasn't disappointed. Three days after the round and I still have a buzz.
Halifax is a gen of a course - as you'd expect from a James Braid / Alistair McKensie creation.
It's fair to say if I had been asked for an opinion of the course after four holes, it might have been unfavourable: my partner had lost two balls and I had started 6,4,6,8. I recovered to shoot 84 on a moderately windy day.
The course is lovingly scuplted from the natural valley in such a way that the course enhances the beautiful landscape. If you thrive on traditional golf - or simply enjoy a break from the modern flat park/tree/manmade hazard model - then Halifax is a joy to behold.
The local members must be golfer/mountain-goat half breeds to play on a routine baiss - it leaves you aching in a rewarding way. A member showed me his wrist monitor that indicated the aggregate vertical climb was over 80 storeys! The views from low and high in the valley are worth the effort.
There are a couple of very short Par 3s but otherwise the moorland course meaders up the slopes of the valley criss-crossing the broolks and streams. It's a punitive course if you miss fairways or mis-club, which is easily done as the wind direction changes every few holes. The 17th is fun - but I loved every hole from 8 through 18.
Minor grumbles - orientation is difficult for the first-timer, we needed the help of a member to locate the 6th green; the practice net was still closed (probably as a result of Covid); the target marker on 18th fairway stands adjacent to the first tee - that might be a good line from the teebox, but from the fairway it's a trap for the newbie.
Greens were in very good condition and running true and fast-ish considering recent weather.
I will be back to play ASAP - hoping the weather is as kind, as I can imagine a strong wind would make the course even longer.
Beautiful moorland course
This really was a lovely course to play with a very challenging start, having a tough opening 4 holes. Fairways and greens in great condition. Staff and members that we met were friendly and helpful. The only slight negative was that sometimes there wasnt much in the way of signposts to help you find the next tee easily. Highly recommended course with stunning views and challenging golf.
Halifax G C, Ogden Moor is definitely worth a visit
The course is very exposed and as it was a very windy day it was challenging to say the least. The greens had just been tined which was unfortunate as they would have otherwise been very true and medium/fast.
It’s a tough course without the weather with many really interesting holes which reflect some of the style of its famous designer.
The rugged beauty of the moors that the course is caved from further added to what was a memorable round. Totally recommend.
Lovely moorland course.
Great views from the top, friendly pro’s mum and dad and glad we hired a buggy.
Greens a bit patchy due to the hot summer.
Course itself a good challenge.
What a great place for misplacing golf balls
Bargain £10 round glad i read the reviews and filled the bag with practice balls. 'Offline reload '. Will be back in the summer. 17th hole is mental not a place for people wit a fear or heights.
Great mornings golf
Had a great time playing at a picturesque course in Halifax, great views and course.
Halifax
Brilliant golf course, great layout You have to avoid using driver unless you're straight because the rough was thick. Seventeenth hole is brilliant a fantastic golf course which I highly recommend.
Halifax
Let's just say the place isn't flat. And the interchangeable weather and wind are definitely a extra challenge to the course. The greens apart from maybe one (10th). Were fantastic. 16th hole is amazing. Very tough course if you do not know your way round. Irons are a must from many tees. Excellent course on the whole. Would love to play it again
Great Course
Great course, great location, friendly people and a overall great day out.
Top course in the area
It has to be said Halifax Golf club is probably the nicest golf course in the area. This is a tricky moorland track that requires straight shots and good course management to score well. The course can appear to be straight forward on a nice day, but when the wind blows this can be one of the hardest courses around. The signature hole would have to be the 17th and if you haven't played it yet get it booked you will not be disappointed.
17th is a dream
very windy on the day. Great layout, some difficult holes.
Great value
Course in great condition. Quick greens and very. Got slightly held up letting competition groups through after a polite request from the club captain. Didnt mind too much as weather was great as were the views.
