Great Course played on the perfect day if you get a hot deal
I have played this course before on a windy wet day and this was a completely different course. The conditions for this round were sunny with no wind. The course condition was excellent and the greens well maintained. I booked this course as a 4 ball on a hot deal 14:30 Tee off. All tee times 2 hours before and after were £36 which I believe a bit excessive. The £22 I paid was about right and would have paid up to £25. This reflected on the number of golfers on the course. Virtually None, we only witnessed 2 other pairs over 18 holes and they were finishing there round as we started. You do need to be relatively fit for this course as there are quite a few inclines. But this does make for spectacular views and the feature Hole 17th did not disappoint. An elevated Tee at the top of a cliff looking down at a saucer. I manged to put my shot on the 17th short of the Green. Last time I played the course the same 7 Iron was 50 yards over the back of the green. Overall an excellent experience and I hope to be back soon.
Lovely day at Ogden
Course is a super test with no hole the same .Glorious views from the top
Challenging Course - Accuracy Needed
First time playing Halifax, gem of a course, challenging for me as an amateur and not very good player, accuracy needed but the course plays perfect, greens were spot on too and overall very happy with this mornings outing.
Simply stunning.
This is the second time I have played Halifax, after playing it last year in poor weather conditions (mist and drizzle) but I still enjoyed it and wanted to return. Well yesterday I did return in 22deg bright sunshine and what an absolute joy, the greens were fantastic the fairways just about perfect, myself and playing partner virtually had the course to ourselves for our mid morning tee off and l really can’t understand why it’s so quiet, yes it’s difficult and you have to think your way round but that and the location/scenery is what makes it. (Oh and it was only 20 quid) I will definitely be returning and want to shout about the course from the hilltops, but also want to keep it quiet. Do yourself a favour and add it to your list of “must” play’s,you won’t be disappointed.
A must........
I have to admit that as we approached the course I was rather worried, the road was narrow and we seemed to be in the middle of no where with no sign if a goof club. How wrong you can be! The course is a hidden gem, almost a hidden valley. It’s a great layout, great condition, superb views and a friendly welcome. Some great holes, with relatively small challenging greens. The only slight disappointment was no food on offer after the round, but that didn't detract from the quality of the day, after all we were there to play golf and not eat. Will definitely revisit
Great course.
The lay-out is very technical and a leveller to make sure big drivers don't have the sole advantage. You are forced to play more irons and is a really good course for average to advanced golfers.
Great golf course in a beautiful location
Great course greens are in great conditions
Round was spoiled a bit by the pro shop staff being arsey as we were 4 mins late due to traffic but had phoned ahead and explained
Great golf course
1st time played this delightful of a course...highly recommended...will be back
The course is physically challenging
Long round for fourball of nearly 4 3/4 hours , not easy to know always where playing to , shame to have mat on quite a few tees when not wet or over used due to covid
Amazing course
It’s like a step back in time. Amazing views, really interesting layout and never boring. The 17th is bonkers. The pro is rarely around so make sure you have tees food and balls before you arrive
Great course
Fantastic course. Would recommend a buggie for anyone who struggles to get around, as lots of up and downs. Greens in great nick and the scenery is stunning which is a bonus. Will definitely be returning
Definitely worth playing
Great challenging moorland course
Interesting holes and course layout
Views of area are awesome
Very friendly locals
Would go again
Great Condition
Decided to play Halifax after I had read some very good reviews.
After all the bad weather past few weeks, course in great condition, good lay out, fantastic holes, look forward to playing again.
Gem
Lovely course that meanders through a valley. Not the longest but layout means the greens are well protected and you won’t be able to bomb the driver off every tee. Held up well for December. Will definitely return in the summer as views are fantastic.
Great course
This is a really challenging course and even though I played terribly still enjoyed it. Lovely condition considering the weather has been VERY wet. Highly recommended
If you like a golfing challenge, this is for you !
Our second time tackling this wonderfully located course and we had perfect autumn conditions, a bit wet and a bit windy but nothing to stop a great round. Every hole is a very different challenge and I don't just mean length, we are talking every hazard imaginable meaning you need to pick and plan your way around the course. Apparently if you have 8 stableford points after 4 holes you are having a great round. My 4 points (off 10 handicap) didn't cut it and then you hit hole 5 which is SI 1 eek ! If I am being honest, on a windy rainy day this course could destroy a player who is not in control of their shots. At £20 in good conditions its an absolute steal and the views are absolutely stunning. If you prefer thinking golf you will enjoy, if you want to smash a ball straight down a fairway and then wedge in to a green without thought, maybe this isn't for you. You have to try it to find out !
Fantastic Course - Definitely One To Visit
Last game before lockdown had to be somewhere new. I'd heard some good stories about Halifax GC so decided this would the venue of our last game for at least 4 weeks.
It didn't disappoint.
The course is fairly undulating but the variety of holes is superb and the braid/mckenzie design combination makes good course management essential and a good putting game a necessity.
Despite being early November this heathland course had stood up to recent rain really well and wasn't at all, with all summer greens and tee boxes still in play. Everywhere on the course has fantastic views of the surround area and as the round progresses you get a birds eye view of the holes that you've already played and the ones to come.
Mention has to be made of the par 3 17th. We played 135 of the yellows, which may seem easy until you realise the green is 30 yards below the level of the tee. Quite rightly judged one of the top 50 par 3's in the UK.
All in all a fabulous experience and a round to remember until lockdown is over.
My only criticism would be that none of the flagsticks had ball retrievers that you flick up with your putter to get your ball out of the hole meaning that it was hands in the hole time. In the current climate this is really poor bearing in mind the very small cost of buying a set for the course (approx £300) or making a set out of plumbing supplies for about £30.
