18th hole - a great way to finish Photo submitted by MullarkeyTony on 04/23/2019
Excellent course
Amazing course. Every hole is different from the previous. Very hilly which is a really nice challenge. Practise facilities are great, driving nets, large putting green, large chipping green (the green is like for like to the on course greens which is amazing) with bunkers at different distances, as well as an artificial chipping green for longer/higher chips. The greens all run true and consistent. Very beautiful to look at from the tees.
Great course, but……
I have played Hexham many times and it is a local favourite of mine. I booked a time late on a Sunday pm thinking it should be quiet and our 2 ball would get around in good time. Unfortunately we got stuck behind 2/3 fourball ‘matches’ and any good vibes quickly dissipated. We had caught the group in front by the the 4th and had to endure the slowest pace of play I can remember in recent memory. A conversation took place on the 10th tee box as to how slow they were playing only to be told that they were held up by the group in front (they weren’t ). Joined up with the 2ball behind us who met us on the same tee and we played the rest of the round in a 4ball, still waiting to play shots! Took about 4hr45 to complete our round in the dark. Course is great but slow play is killing the enjoyment. Been watching the pros too much on Sky golf ……I’d have been around in just over 3 hrs with a clear run.
Got to play this one again....
Our first time at this course but we are sure to go back. A mixture of long undulating fairways and tight par threes. A course you had to think your way around. The bunkers were very challenging. Deep and well placed.
Like always staying on the fairway gave you rewards with lots of trees and out of bounds to punnish the wayward shot. A few steep up hill holes to test your lungs too. We were behind a competition (7 * 4 ball) so got held up a bit and could enjoy the vista.
For me the par 3's were very tricky, even the local players struggled.
Our end score was better than expected but more than that we enjoyed the game and shandy in the clubhouse was well earned.
Visiting Hexham
Nice course but expensive for a round. Greens were pretty good. Plenty of bunkers to catch you out!
Hexham
Good, interesting, varied course.
Greens in great condition. The course is very hilly. I carried my bag and was knackered at the end.
Any future round I will use a trolley or a buggy but well worth a visit.
Enjoyable round
It was a absolute pleasure playing here for the first time course was in cracking condition and the greens were true it’s a bit hilly and would prob get a buggy next time I play which I definitely will
Fantastic
I can see why this course has a five star rating , the course is pristine, greens are well maintained amd the staff are very helpful.
Great course
Great course really enjoyed our game, 4 of us played 3 newish starters and myself off an 11 handicap. Course layout was really good and condition was great for so early in the season only complaint was bald patches around some greens for playing pitch shots in we just used preferred lies in our 4ball but other than that we had no complaints and would definetely return id even join if it was abit closer to home.
Course is certainly a challenging walk I slept well that night 😅. So id recommend a buggy for anyone not used to hills and slopes.
Great course will defo be back in the summer
everything was spot on only niggle was slightly bobbly greens and i mean slightly
Gem
This is THE best course I have played up here and looking forward to playing again especially during the summer when the greens will be even more lightening quick . Would recommend to anyone
Gem of a course
Played here for the first time the other day as part of a 4 ball and it was excellent. Although we had to play off a few mats that didn't put us off, staff were friendly and very helpful as it was the first time playing Hexham. Fairways and greens were absolutely immaculate. Some excellent views aslo. The 13th hole was the only winter green but that was due to bunkers getting work done to them in time for the summer. Had a 4 ball of ladies Infront of us but they went off like a shot and we never got held up all day. Took about 3:40 to get around. Will definitely be playing here again in the summer. Guinness was a solid 8/10 in the clubhouse too.
Best Parkland Course in Northumberland
Course was in great nick, for the time of year.
Greens rolled really well and only one winter green.
Staff all really friendly and pace of play was great.
Top course.
Great course and great welcome
After a great welcome in the pro shop, the course was in great condition. It was not busy when we played so was able to keep up a good pace. There was different challenges which made playing the course interesting.
The only very minor point was the lack of course map or “next hole” direction signs.
Would I play it again - most definitely
Would I recommend it - again most definitely
