Alston Moor Golf Club

At the end of August, unlike courses in the south of England, the course was a lush green course. The course is basically laid out on the side of a hill with many holes going up or down the hill, so be prepared for pushing your clubs up some steep hills. There are 10-11 unique holes most of which are part of both the front nine and the back nine. The 17th and 18th are unique, with the 17th the highest in England. We played on a rainy Friday morning and had the course virtually to ourselves. Lush fairways and lovely greens with a few tricky holes but as high-handicap players we enjoyed it. Generally the holes are well signposted, ex pet the 17th, which requires a 200 yd walk from the 16th green and is difficult to find with no signage until you get there. There is a small clubhouse with basic changing rooms for men and women. There is a bar but it was closed on the day we were there and there were no staff / pro-shop. Overall I would recommend the course to anyone visiting the area. It is registered for iGolf but my Golfshot App did not understand the full layout.

Great course, yes it’s a 10- green, 18 hole course, but it’s a cracking little course, with fantastic views.

When we played there was an early frost which cleared up quickly and the mountains in the distance had what looked like a snow topping.

Definitely worth the £20 and will be back in the summer to play again.

If you like wild, remote, feel and ambience more than the quality of the greens then go! Amazing place !

Great course although nine holes if feels different second time round. Lovely experience very friendly will return
