Ok course
Fairways are good, just some of the greens are letting it down, they are a little bumpy and patchy and throws your line off
Great Course
Malkins is a really Nice Course. Much improved bunker and fairway wise, but the greens are terrible due to the amount of unrepaired pitchmarks. Many look like a golf ball , due to the damage done.
Thoroughly enjoyed the round though. Would recommend.
Good Practice
The greenskeepers have done a good job cutting back trees and rough so if you happen to miss the fairway you can find your ball. Bunkers now have sand however don’t expect them to be raked when you find one. This course is testing and you need to hit straight drives to score low. The course could be really nice however it’s let down by poor etiquette, SLOW PLAY, no raked bunkers, pitch marks all over the greens and the odd divet too. The greens need a watering. Plus point the 15th hole is better than I have seen it play before. I like this course but let down by a lack of respect from some of the people that play it more than anything else. Best played in the morning
Oh dear
Started off playing this course 10 yes ago. Not played here for 3 yrs have to say probably the worst in the area. All funds have been spent turning the golfers clubhouse in to a restaurant so no golf atmosphere or prices . The course is in poor condition pitch marks everywhere. The tee area grass longer than my lawn . I found a deal to play there for £15 and that was just about worth it any more is too expensive for that course. A real shame as its only 10 mins from my home but would prefer to pay the extra and play else where. In summary a good course yrs ago but now probably worst in the area.
pleasant round on a windy day
Played here a lot. Its generally easy to get a round at a fair price. It can be challenging if your game isn't on song like ours were today and the pace of play tends to be slow every time Ive played. Course is a bit rough in places, the greens need a bit of work but were consistent pace wise. I'd still play here again but wouldn't be my first choice.
Decent course
Thoroughly enjoyed the round at Malkins Bank, considering the terrible weather in the weeks before hand the course was in good condition, all main greens were in play and no fairway mats needed which after a few months of course closures and temporary green let downs at other courses it was music to my ears. The majority of the course was playable with only a small amount of standing water which wasn’t really in the way. The greens were cut very well and for the most part in better condition than expected for the time of year. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the course is not intimidating so suits a range of handicaps. Would recommend and will be returning.
Good Condition for time of year!
For the 16th Dec. 2024 the course was in very good condition. Mild weather and no rain. A lot of work as been done to improve the course, looking forward to next year.
WET,WET,WET
UNLESS WE HAVE A DRY SPELL FOR SEVERAL WEEKS i WOULDNT WASTE YOUR MONEY...THE COURSE WAS SATURATED AND THIS WAS COMPOUNDED BY TONS OF LEAVES CLOSE TO AND ON THE FAIRWAY
I LOST A DOZEN BALLS YESTERDAY AMONGST THE LEAFY AREAS AND DIDNT EVEN PLAY THAT BADLY...PLAYED 18 HOLES THIS MORNING ELSEWHERE AND DIDNT LOSE ONE'
LEFT COVERED IN MUD AND DISPIRITED,,,SUMMER ONLY COURSE UNLESS MORE UPKEEP WORK IS PUT INTO THE GENERAL MAINTAINANCE AND UPKEEP OF THE COURSE.
The course looks really sad and run down
Booked online for a nice round of golf with my son, I must say how really disappointing the experience was, no facilities open. The course was very wet perhaps with hindsight the course should have been closed. the number of balls lost to leaves covering the poorly maintained fairways was ridiculous, bunkers in extremely poor condition. Sad to see this once outstanding course in such poor condition it sadly looks rather dilapidated. Even the compressor was turned off, so unable to clean off the excess mud from our trolleys and footwear. Sadly I would not recommend a visit in the present circumstances.
Fair course
Played this course around 5yrs ago with the Society, was in very good condition well kept course , returned today and was not really the same condition as before , needs a lot of tlc across the course , very good course with lots of potential and some really nice holes.
Great value
For a £10 round can't complain. Twilight rate really is bargain golf. However alot of beginners and no golf etiquette. Greens need some water and course overall needs some attention.
The layout and holes are brilliant. With some good investment this course could be fantastic.
Range not in use....
Just a bit scruffy and tired. Money being spent on the bar and hospitality but seems the course is being forgotten.
RIP Malkins Bank
We have played Malkins Bank numerous times over the years, and it's clear that they no longer put the effort into the course that it deserves.
It might be autumn, but there has been no attempt to clear the leaves that litter every fairway and treeline, making it near impossible to find a ball on the fairway at times, let alone in the trees.
The greens are scorched and cracked, like they've never been watered this summer. Yet, if you play in the months when it rains, it is waterlogged and unkept.
Today's game saw greens like concrete. Hitting them would result in an 8 foot bounce. Even chipping on to a reasonable distance would see them roll off the other side.
The 15th hole is awful. If you hit your ball 200 to 250, good luck, there is no fairway. Just a thin strip of land.
Woosie's Corner? More like Woosie's Cutting Corners.
Poor course, can't recommend.
Malkins bank has gone even further downhill. The course is poorly kept, greens are terrible, £25 is overpriced and not worth the visit unless it's less than £15.
Great course friendly staff and players
Great value golf course. Only slight downer some greens require attention. Really enjoyed everything else about both the course and the off course. Side note driving range being worked on so not in use.
Great value but needs some tlc
Amazing value for money but due to the price you do get a lot of non golfers playing who make it slow and can be a bit of a pain. The course layout is great but the greens and bunkers need some work. The greens are very slow but rock hard, you can’t hit a wedge into the green and expect to hold it.
